History of the Temple...
The temple was built in the days of Thailand's ancient capital of Ayutthaya and originally known as Wat Makok (The Olive Temple). In the ensuing era when Thonburi was capital,changed the name to Wat Chaeng.
The Wat had a brief period as host of the Emerald Buddha, which was moved to Wat Phra Kaew in 1784. The later King Rama II. changed the name to Wat Arunratchatharam. He restored the temple and enlarged the central prang. The work was finished by King Rama III. King Rama IV gave the temple the present name Wat Arunratchawararam. As a sign of changing times, Wat Arun officially ordained its first westerner in 2005. Sean Patrick from America.
Architecture...
The outstanding feature of Wat Arun is its central prang (Khmer-style tower). Steep steps lead to the two terraces. The height is reported by different sources as between 66,80 m and 86 m. The corners are surrounded by 4 smaller satellite prangs. The prangs are decorated by seashells and bits of porcelain which had previously been used as ballast by boats coming to Bangkok from China. Around the base of the prangs are various figures of ancient Chinese soldiers and animals. Over the second terrace are four statues of the Hindu god Indra riding on Erawan.
At the riverside are 6 pavilions (sala) in Chinese style. The pavilions are made of green granite and contain landing bridges. Next to the prangs is the Ordination Hall with the Niramitr Buddha image supposedly designed by King Rama II. The front entrance of the Ordination Hall has a roof with a central spire, decorated in coloured ceramic and stuccowork sheated in coloured china. There are 2 demons, or temple guardian figures in front.

Yesterday, I and my parents went to the Chinese temples in Chonburi province and afterward on the way home we stopped at the sea food market. My parents really enjoy shopping but I enjoy taking picture ^___^ This is one of nice shots from there. Hope you like it ;-)!

The Lan Chang Styled Scripture Repository and Wihan...
The northeastern community, established since the early Buddhist era, has created its own unique artistic style that is different from other types of indigenous architecture. The art became known as the art of Lan Chang.
Muang Boran has constructed this particular scripture repository and wihan in Lan Chang style in order to demonstrate the unique artistic features of Lan Chang art. The extraordinary architectural style and design of the buildings are worth studying. The local architecture is ordinarily made of wood, the material often used by northeastern craftsmen. These architectures can hardly be seen today.

Suan Luang Rama IX Park , a new and sizable metropolitan public park, was born out of the aspirations and fervent desire of a group of His Majesty the King's loyal subjects to create and dedicate a park as a token of homage and honor to His Majesty on the occasion of His Sixtieth Birthday Anniversary in the year B.C. 2530 (A.D.1987), with the fullest co-operation of the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority.
Suan Luang Rama IX Park is divided into six areas.
1. Homage to His Majesty- The first and foremost of which is called Uthayan Maharaj (literally, "Garden of the Great King") to symbolize the Sovereign' Grace and Majesty.
2. The Botanical Garden- Area Two is a botanical garden dedicated to the propagation of knowledge, collection of and research on the various types of flora.
3. The Reservoir - Area Three, named Traphang Keo, is a reservoir in line with the flood-prevention project inspired by His Majesty the King, which is the foremost of subsequent water projects.
4. Rommaniya Garden - Area Four comprises an open garden where Thailand's natural heritage, including its mountains and geological features, is represented in miniature for visitors to the Park.
5. The Sanam Rasdara - Area Five, named Sanam Rasdara, is a wide open field intended for use for various types of entertainment of festive occasions. Sanam Rasdara (literlly, "Royal Ground"), fittingly symbolizes the affinity between Luang ("Royal") and Rasdara ("people")
6. The Water Garden- Area Six is a garden in the form of mixed jungle and marshlands, providing the life-sustaining habitat for fish, water- fowl and multifarious aquatic plants.

I beg you to apologize for this little interlude but I barely received a new 35mm (used) and I wanted to test the image quality ... you see my shadow in the photo... it's just for the test ;-)
A mini series of portraits taken accross Isaan, the northeastern region of Thailand where most of people speak laotian (or khmer in some areas). It is a region I particularly like because it is off the tourist spots, it has a local flavour and it is a quiet place where one can really experience the laidback Thai lifestyle... sabai sabai :)
One of my best eye shots ever. No Photoshop work done on the eyes. I swear on my kid's eyes...no pun intended. :) The only PS work done to this picture was the crop, the border, and removing some boogers from her nose. Heh. The reflection in her eyes were that good. I could tell when I was taking this shot that it was going to be a nice shot. Yes I am tooting my own whistle. :D
I am always in awe of sesameellis and her great eye shots. So I guess you can say this shot was inspired by her.
Can anyone guess from the reflection in her eyes, what I'm doing? Other than taking her picture of course. Here is the high res if it helps.

Did a little sesame ellis treatment on the eyes here. A little different from how I treat my eyes, but equally nice. Might have to create an action for this.

This was taken in 2012 at the favourite hut in Eco Lake - my favourite spot for doing candid portraits becos of the evening golden light and typically many kids who love their pics taken. Unfortunate over the last 8 years the expat community in Singapore has diminished.
Lucky for me I kept all these files becos I just could not get them to look beautiful before.

I have to admit I was a little spellbound when I first met her. Her smile could light up a dark room easily. When I took her photo, she said, "I'm cute aren't I? No fooling, I said:). Rockville, is a cute little town with a lot of pride and things to see.
