Drove to Oak Openings Metropark in Swanton, OH today to spend some time with my son before work and take in the fall colors. It was a pretty overcast day without great light but I really wanted to capture the moment as I don't know when I'll get back there with my current work schedule and being a father to a seven-month old boy. This is a beautiful park and a search for photos of it here on Flickr inspired me to get down there and appreciate all it has to offer. The fall colors throughout the area were absolutely magnificent.

Swanton Novers, Norfolk. A couple of hours birding on a family holiday. First time HB's have been residing in Norfolk for 4 years (I believe), they had been showing well in previous days so we turned up just after 9 to find one flying overhead. Frantically got the camera set up and just had a minute of it before it went distant. Tried again the following morning but it was overcast and they didnt show in the time i had. A male i think.

After being at work for nearly 12 hours, I had seen the post of "Big Blue" leading 21Q across Pennsylvania, I began to wonder if I would have time after work to shoot him anywhere close to me. I left work and busted down here to be sure I was ahead of them, thank god for the MoW working on track one at the Maumee River Bridge in Toledo which held up the train long enough for me to continue doing the speed limit to MP 309.
This location is the last bracket signals left anywhere on the Chicago Line that isn't bastardized by the new PTC upgrades, which makes this a great spot to shot any ex-Chicago Line running trains under these signals before they are gone.

On a beautiful Western Ohio afternoon, NS train #35N, a westbound manifest, books it past CP-309, Swanton, OH, and the NYC Brackets which will be gone very soon with three CITX leaser locomotives in tow. These are the only NYC brackets left without replacments by them and these will soon be gone. NS has started to cut in the replacment signals closer to Amherst and they will be making their way west.
The picking at Swanton Berry farm was a little slim that day. A lot of the strawberry patch was like this. Between five of us, we managed to get about two baskets of good berries.
