As if it were the only survivor of The Flood, a rusty red leaf floats in the dark water. There is still hope for Earth - but remember: there is no planet B.
These tiny horned violets (Viola cornuta) have found shelter among the cobblestones, where they make for a nice surprise. Seen in one of the backyards of Flensburg, North Germany
A music video by French-English artist Riopy, who grew up in a cult, taught himself to play the piano and is now a global star:
This Raccoon lost a front leg last year, she had three kits, and she came back this year with 1 kit, we help her out when food is scarce.
This is her last year with her kits:

This is Gray Catbird, sweet little bird. Most Likely she collided with car, she lost lots of feathers, I took shot from angle which is will not reveal it, "private" tail almost gone, cage is always open, I'm happy to see her eating berries and seeds but what is really makes me happy, now she can fly again :)
A new population is growing due to the good weather conditions, humidity and high temperature.
You could call them survivors ;-))
Despite water restrictions in the Cape, there are three botanicals that put on the most beautiful show of flowers: Bougainvillea, Hibiscus and Plumbago.
The water restrictions in place, allow for watering plants twice weekly using a bucket - no hosepipes allowed. I’ve taken matters one step further and instead of using potable water, I save my bathwater for the shrubs – and they’ve rewarded me handsomely :-)
Here is an image of my Plumbago.
Botanical name: Plumbago auriculata.
Family: Plumbaginaceae.
Taken in Somerset West, Western Cape, South Africa.
Τι χρειάζεται για να επιβιώσεις? Τα απαραίτητα και επιλεκτική μνήμη...
What does it take to survive? The necessary and selective memory ...
Was braucht es, um zu überleben? Das notwendiges und selektives Gedächtnis...
Not taken in the best of light.
I understand that the the eyes of gannets that have survived bird flu have changed colour from white to black and this is one such bird.
Here is the three legged raccoon grooming her kit, she is such a good Mom, we love watching her nurse and care for her kit.
Storm survivors indeed!
These are almost ready to bloom as all the others around the yard, Daffodils are very hardy and multiply like rabbits:-)
Have not lost one yet, they must be hundreds of them.
We got lucky with the storm thank God!

For the "Looking close... on Friday!" topic "A single flower"
As the Spring warmth turned back into Arctic winter, I brought some of the small plum blossoms indoors to shoot. This single flower from the Japanese plum tree by the gate measures just 2cm across.
Have a happy weekend, and stay safe!

A local celebrity these days - this Eastern Meadowlark was feeding amongst the long grasses against the slope of a hill. Although starvation may be an issue, Owls and Hawks also frequent the area and this guy pops out against the snow...
There seems to be one tall tree in this forest, the sole survivor of an ancient battle ...

"Keep my head up, sinkin', lost in all of these waves
These odds keep me goin', the tide has finally changed
When it gets harder to breathe, I guess I'll just have to scream
Get up back on my feet, I want the world to see me
I'm a survivor, come ride with me
Been through hell and back, don't need your sympathy
Everything I wanted is right in front of me, yeah
I'm a survivor, come ride with me"

In the long run, only one dinosaur survived the fifth mass extinction: the birds! Humans now drive the sixth mass extinction and the birds are now - like their ancestors - threathen by extincion. Will they survive, yet again? Let us hope they do
I am always amazed at how much the vegetation is suffering in the Arctic. Trees are real survivors who face the wind, snow, storms and all ruthless forces of nature. On the exposed slopes of the mountains we often find small birches (Dwarf birch - betula nana) such as pioneers who have gone up the slopes.
All my admiration for them.

The other day, I was photographing my car models and accidentally set the tripods up all over the crocus plants, stomping on quite a few in the process! Happy to say, they did survive the ordeal (mostly)!
Lots of sliding to boost colour, increase contrast and blacken the background.
Happy Slider Sunday!
Since the 1880s the fishing village of Lonstrup has developed into a pleasant seaside town. Its heyday lasted from around 1920s until 1940, when the railway transported thousands of bathers to Lonstrup from surrounding area. At that time the beach was relatively broad, but the sea has gradually eroded the coastline and edged closer and closer to the town, which has resulted in several houses falling into the sea. Following the violent storm in 1981, during which the sea got as far up the shore as the lifeboat building, the coastal protection of Lonstrup began. This altered the nature of the beach. The cliffs became covered in vegetation and there are now large blocks of granite instead of grains of sand.
the black wildebeest (connochates gnou) was a typical gnou endemic in southern part of africa.
considered a pest from farmers and hunted for the meat it was almost brought to extinction.
almost at the end the human stupidity was stopped and the reintroduction/protection begun.
the easiest way to recognize black wildebeest from the common "blue wildebeest" is the white tail.

Poppies that are thumbing their nose at our County Council, who sprayed them with glyphosate. Sadly at their feet are the remains of their not so lucky friends and family 😥
Just a simple slide today, as I've been enjoying the lovely warm sunshine - HSS!

Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest - Bishop California. My first time to this enchanted forest. This is the Patriarch Grove, not the easiest place to get to. For me it took determination. I have been talking about going here for years but let the 11 mile jagged dirt road and fear of the elevation keep me from making the trek. After being rejected in late July by the snow drift that had the last mile closed to vehicle traffic, i gathered my courage and headed off to complete this 5 hour journey on foot. This type of journey is not for the faint of heart. One must have a love and passion for night sky photography. But for those who do, i say with no embellishment, it is the most amazing place i have been to. Compositions are endless and the sky is as good as it gets. I will return some day when i can stay for a few nights to explore all of what it has to offer.
