The juvenile of Eurasian eagle-owl (Bubo bubo)

This is from last years exploring of the forests in my surroundings. A splendid place deep in to the woods which you only can visit during winter since it is surrounded by a swamp that you can not walk on except for when it is frozen. Luckily I found this place just as the sun was setting so I could document it`s beauty with my camera. You can't tell from the photo but it was actually - 20 C this day :)

From the observation platform of the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, a view of the surroundings of Zvenigorod. .If you shoot from the monastery wall, the panorama will open even wider, but at the moment there is restoration.

I spotted this small common kestrel through the window of our car on the way home from the Lake of Der (France) to Luxembourg. The bird was taking a lunch break or just observing surroundings when I approached him/her with my camera. To my suprise, the bird did not fly away but continued sitting on the branch and watching me. You never know what will be your next shot! :)

Another hard drive find from one of the most remote places in the American Southwest in new processing:

In the late afternoon, after 61 miles (98 km) of gravel road, we reached Toroweap Point on the north rim of the Grand Canyon. Before I set up the tent on the primitive campsite, I used the beautiful light to explore the area with the camera.

The meerkat is a small diurnal mammal living in the arid desert environments of southwest Africa. It is a member of the Herpestidae family. Often nicknamed "the sentry of the desert", it owes this nickname to the posture it takes when it stands up on its 2 back legs. In this position, it observes the surroundings and watches for the slightest danger. One individual is more particularly affiliated with this task: the lookout! Posted high up, it scans the sky for birds of prey and other predators and warns its fellows by shouting or barking if it spots a threat.

In the beginning of June I arrived in the arctic circle. Although the weather predictions were not very good, in the end it turned out much better.

I had heard the Lyngen alps (www.flickr.com/photos/115540984@N02/54813116460/in/datepo...) were a nice part of Norway, and not so far away from Tromsö, so this morning I went to that area for a few days before heading to Senja. This picture is just outside of Tromsö. Because of the wonderful weather I had to get out of my camper quite a few times.

This shot will help one understand why the bird is named 'Bronzed'. The bird is a daily visitor to the backyard and it loves to announce its arrival with a harsh grating call. Also they choose prominent perches from where to scan the surroundings for prey and so it makes it easy for us to get good shots of them. They are great flyers and are a joy to watch. They actively forage for insects under the forest canopy by making acrobatic aerial sallies, often returning to their favourite perches.

Two meerkats keeping a close eye on their surroundings deep in he African bush. These animals are absolutely fascinating to watch and photograph.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Cuenca is a Spanish municipality and city belonging to the autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha and capital of the homonymous province. It is located somewhat to the north of the geographic center of the province, at an average altitude of 946 m above sea level and its extensive municipal area, of about 911 km², is one of the largest in Spain. The municipality has a population registered with 53,389 inhabitants (INE 2022).

Although there is evidence of population in the surroundings of the city since the Upper Paleolithic, it was not until the Muslim conquest when the fortress of Qūnka was built, which gave rise to the current city. This was originally among the many others from the Santaver (Ercávica) cora, but gradually gained importance. The Christian king Alfonso VIII conquered it in 1177 and granted it the Fuero de Cuenca, one of the most prestigious in the history of Castile. focused on the textile industry, of great renown during the 15th and 16th centuries, which produced a great construction activity. However, the drapery collapsed in the 17th century, leading to a drastic loss of population, which gradually recovered over the following century. In 1833 it became the capital of the new province of Cuenca, although the upheavals of the period kept the city in a precarious state until well into the 20th century. Today, the economy is mainly focused on tourism, strengthened since its old town was declared a World Heritage Site in 1996.

Cuenca preserves an important historical and architectural heritage throughout the old city, where buildings such as the cathedral or the Hanging Houses stand out, which have become the icon of the city. It is also characterized by having a good number of museums (more than ten) in the reduced space of the old town. The Museum of Spanish Abstract Art, the Science Museum of Castilla-La Mancha, the Paleontological Museum of Castilla-La Mancha and the Museum of Cuenca stand out. Among the main cultural events are Holy Week and Music Week Religious.
