This tree grows on the bank of the Danube near Wörth an der Donau. This morning, a cold breeze was blowing. No good precondition for a long time exposure, because the branches moved a lot. Anyhow, this is the result! For me, it is a poor man's surrogate for the famous Wanaka tree..

Because of the safety measures implemented during Covid-19, there is a reduced collection of downtown Springfield, Mo regulars. Some, such as these couple of skate boarders, utilize the ghost town as a surrogate for their otherwise closed usual hang-outs.

I appreciate Dominic and his friend for inviting me to shoot them during their trick boarding session.

When they are born, Kangaroo joeys are about the size and shape of a jelly bean. They spend months in their mother's pouch latched to a nipple while they grow. At about six months their eyes open, they grow fur, their ears that have been folded across the top of their head now stand upright, and the little joey looks out at the world for the first time.

When Evan's mother died, somebody checked his mother's pouch and rescued him from certain death. He was taken to a vet who passed him on to a wildlife rescue organization and he was fostered to a surrogate human mother.

Evan was barely viable, his eyes were still shut and he had no fur. Unable to regulate his own body temperature, he lived in a tiny humidicrib for several weeks. In this shot Evan's eyes have opened, he has just started to grown fine fur on his face and front legs. Note that one of his ears is still laying down. He'is a beautiful little Kangaroo.

Collection of Four Hundred and Eighty Plaster Surrogates - 1982/1989

National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.

I attempted to capture this image back in 2014 while visiting the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. but experienced some difficulty so I put the idea aside. I was glad to have another chance while visiting Washington back in May. I'll apologize up front for pushing the ability of flickr to really appreciate what's going on here. The image was stitched together and with an original length of 12,000 pixels so it's a bit on the long side but when viewed in it's original size, each frame (other than the black ones) becomes a unique random abstract surrogate made from prior images that I have posted, maybe you recognize some socks?? I think this is in keeping with McCollum original intent where each frame with it's black image represents a surrogate for art.

I emailed Allan McCollum for comment but to date, I have not heard back.

Happy Slider Sunday - HSS

Tinker has show great care and respect for Holly in her current situation and as a new member of "The People." Tinker is not an aggressive boy and Holly seems to really enjoy having him near when we let him in with her. I think Tinker has NO clue about what is going to happen, but he sems to want to be our surrogate Daddy Cat, and I think that is terribly sweet! She lays down and they touch noses! I expect kittens will be a game changer, but then, it is really good that she will have an ally when she is out and amongst "The People" later!

All our cats are neutered and spayed- well, except Holly and kittens, but that will be next steps in giving her and the little ones a safe life!

- Methylated spirit, also called denatured alcohol or denatured rectified spirit is poisonous and should never be taken internally.

Drinking it can lead to severe illness, blindness, brain impairment and death.

Despite its poisonous content, denatured alcohol is sometimes consumed as a surrogate alcohol. This can result in blindness or death if it contains methanol. For instance, during the Prohibition in the United States, federal law required methanol in domestically-manufactured industrial alcohols. On Christmas Day, 1926, and the two following days, which was roughly at the midpoint of the "Great Experiment" of nationwide alcohol prohibition, 31 people in New York City alone died of methanol poisoning.

To help prevent this, denatonium is often added to give the substance an extremely bitter flavour. Substances such as pyridine are added to give the mixture an unpleasant odour, and agents such as syrup of ipecac may also be included to induce vomiting.

Road to a mountain scenery and to wonderful memories.

I recovered this image from an old batch I took several years ago during what was probably my most memorable mountain holiday time ever. I came back here several times after that, but never to spend a while in a rented dream-house with my family. Old images are just like memories: imperfect, small, with less dynamic range and definition, but far more precious and evocative than any modern digital laser-sharp precise surrogate.

Tempest began as surrogate mother to Loki seven years ago. So well did she do in this role that even now he seems convinced he is her German Shepherd (cat). This is this morning’s nurturance.

this is what the inside of the balloon looks like! it was so so big, i have never seen anything like it! The fire was so warm but every time he fired the balloon my ears popped.

I met a lovely Welsh couple, they were my surrogate grandparents for the morning.

I really cant believe the weekend i have had.

The surrogate is regarded by the emerging character of the faceless man in a kitchen.

Found this juvenile and it's sibling being fed by their surrogate parent a Europen magpie.

Too warm for a snowy white Christmas...

Her it is cold and gray. Snow and rain is falling. I can't change the weather. Perhaps it will help when I look at this shining blossom.

Have a great Friday and sunny weekend!

Gluepot Reserve - South Australia

Austrália

We really wanted to visit this reserve, but we had been warned about the issue with its name ("glue"), which refers to how the soil sticks to the wheels after rain.

We spent the night in Waikerie and... it rained! So, with great anxiety, at 5:30 am, we crossed the Murray River on the ferry and set out on the 50 km of dirt road. Fortunately, within the first few kilometers, we realized that it either hadn’t rained or, if it had, it was very little.

We had also been warned about the poor condition of the road (surrogate), but we had no difficulty at all. We’ve encountered much worse before.

Red Wattle Bird Surrogate parent for Eastern Koel

sliders sunday: happy mother's day for all who are mothers, are married to mothers and those who have been our mother surrogates :) 💙 we love you for all you are and do 💙

Since there was no fog to aimlessly wander in yesterday morning, when I saw the frost I knew it would serve as a surrogate.

The 31 is towing a surrogate HST DVT, as the main power 91 002 is out of sight on the rear.

Taken at Masirah Island, Oman.

Have a peaceful Weekend everyone. Take care.

Thank you so much for dropping by my photostream.

FACTS:

Handsome long-tailed bird. Breeding male has a black throat, mostly yellow underparts. Breeding female often has some dark on the throat, paler yellow underparts. All plumages have gray head and back, with whitish eyebrow, bright yellow belly and vent. Often near flowing water with nearby rocks or surrogate rocky habitat, from mountain streams to weirs in suburban parklands. Walks quietly along shorelines or in nearby open areas, pumping its very long, white-sided tail up and down. Song is a repetitive series of high-pitched notes; calls include short, high “pseet” and buzzier flight calls.

Bon voyage ma sweet Deli-cat...

I lived the same with my Poconcio and Petunia.

Sweet and inseparable brother and sister for 9 years, suddenly Poconcio fell ill and there was nothing to do ...

My pain was deepening watching Petunia look for his dear brother all over the house.

Suddenly I remembered a case and I appropriated the idea: I put a substitute brother.

Over one year Petunia slept next to this stuffed animal. At nights I was moved to listen to her talking softly to the stuffed animal as if her wish to say him: here I am.

Now Petunia is better but I am always take care of her because although I have more cats, she only loved her brother.

I understand you so much Monique ...

San Francisco CA

Wet and windy Wednesday was the reward for the first full day of my short stop over in Buttermere. I had been out before breakfast of course but now after breakfast I had a small window before it got really bad and the back end of a storm that had swept through France hit. To get up high was out so I decided on a quick visit to Loweswater and Holme wood. It was great fun, relatively sheltered from the worse of the weather that had already arrived, I fixed on my 35mm f2, a lovely little lens on a crop sensor, I wandered round looking for bits of autumn that weren’t disco dancing. In this scene I was drawn in by a lovely hanging canopy from a grand old beech tree. Using an old forestry track with its nursery of pine trees in the shade of the canopy looked like a surrogate nursery with a beech nanny tree. I tried it portrait and landscape to capture more of the canopy, but I tend to like the first attempt better as it has more lead in. After a very satisfying couple of hours the bad weather was starting to bite so I strolled back to the car and drove to hotel to spend a lazy afternoon lying on the bed in my warm room watching the storm lash High Stiles through the window.
