A splendid ride out across the Cheshire Tundra this morning, starting with coffee @riverbankcoffee and then twenty odd cold and crisp miles #grassupthemiddle #surlybigdummy
This is a 200 lb. load of bulk organic food (grains, beans, flour, etc.)
Times like this that I think to myself "man I love this bike".

You'll have to excuse the camera phone picture quality, but here's a shot of the rain cover we just made for the llama.
Riding at night is serious fun with the Down Low Glow. You can find out more at Rock The Bike & visit my friends at Full Throttle Bottles in Georgetown.
Mark V from Elliot Bay has been hard at work piecing together a Surly Big Dummy, to join Bettie 2.5 in the Bike Hugger cargo bike stable. I'm excited to get these first photos of Barney onto Flickr and I'm seriously jonesing to get some rubble under Barney's Tires.
Bikehugger Bettie 2.5. I stopped by Hugga HQ to pick up some business cards from Byron pre-interbike and took Bettie for a spin. This was my first time on the stokemonkey equipped Bettie. It was fun. The whole set up adds quite a bit of weight and makes it more like a light motorcycle than a bike. This is something you need to be cognizant of while you're riding because you aren't as nimble in traffic.

My first BD load: Bike Friday Tikit, two bob trailer bags, one Timbuk2 bag (full), Xtracycle long loader, locks etc. Went on with no problem.

This is up at the top of trail ridge road, the ominous clouds were thankfully NOT in the direction we were heading or I would not have been smiling.
A snowy 4.5 mile commute home. Tough but fun. Plenty of dabs but no falls. The BD handled really well. If I had had knobby tires on the ride would have been even funner. Looking forward to the commute today, especially with more snow on the way.
Size large Surly Big Dummy. Just needs fenders and a few finishing touches. Build list can be found here.
Mounted on 65mm wide Surly Large Marge rims, this should be ample traction for any condition. I will be running them between 18 - 25 psi.
Sup Flickr? Been a while!
A deluge of photos is incoming but for now here is a pic of the most awesomest bike ever.

The Xtracycle Footsies as supplied don't really work on the Big Dummy, the foot-rest tube loop fouls them and stops them attaching firmly in place. But my wife doesn't like putting her feet on the loops on the Big Dummy (reckons they are too small) and greatly prefers footsies.
So the footsies got fitted permanently. These are 15mm pipe clips, fastened with 4mm x 16mm machine screws and nuts. It involves drilling 6 holes in each footsie,a nd doesm't look too pretty either from the top or the bottom. Seems to work though, and is reasonably solidly supported by the tube loop. I might see if I can cover the top with something to hide the screws.
Have a look too at Ralfieboy's mod, here: [http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3072/3108661554_26b2977885.jpg?v=0]

It was getting dark and late, I had to call it quits for the night. I have since re-mounted the FreeRadicals.
Jess borrowed the 'truck' so she could take her coworker in, "Dummy Style" A good time was had by all, and we're that much closer to a new convert.

A good Big Dummy load: two kids, a laptop and briefcase, lunch, and a lock.
We were (and continue to be) so pleased with this bike. I started a Flickr account largely because I wanted to share pictures with others who were thinking of getting one (you can see these are the first pictures I posted), and like me, went on-line for a sense of how they got used. Since then I've found that there's a lot of Big Dummy / Xtracyce resources out there, and clearly this also started a Flickr habit.
This is Barney my Big Dummy. I took Barney out for an inaugural spin. I couldn't think of a better way to brake in a cargo bike than to pick up some beer. This is my favorite local beer shop in the converted warehouse district of Seattle known as Georgetown. Check them out if your in the neighborhood. Full Throttle Bottles
