Denny Abbey and the Farmland Museum has a unique and fascinating history, having been occupied at various times by three different monastic orders. Founded in 1159 as a Benedictine monastery, in 1170 it was taken over by the Knights Templars and used as a home for aged and infirm members of the order. After the Templars’ suppression for alleged heresy in 1308, it became a convent of Franciscan nuns known as the Poor Clares. Following the dissolution of the nunnery in 1539 by Henry VIII, it became a farm and was in use until the late 1960s.

A mirror provides the most common model for specular light reflection, and typically consists of a glass sheet with a metallic coating where the significant reflection occurs. Reflection is enhanced in metals by suppression of wave propagation beyond their skin depths. Reflection also occurs at the surface of transparent media, such as water or glass.

Different winds of sorrow restrain me

Every time I try to keep my head above

I'm drowning in sadness, tears become a sea

While I'm desperately searching for a key

Help me to recover the blaze

Lead me through this life

Then I can survive

The rest of my days

Take me by my clammy hands

And bring me to a world I've never seen

Far away, to unknown lands

Across paths where I have never been

Help me to recover the blaze

Lead me through this life

Then I can survive

The rest of my days

The suppression of emotions inside

Makes that I can't mention my feelings you said

While recovering from disappointments I always slide

For I know the answer is just in my head

Standing close to Southampton Water, Netley Abbey is the most complete surviving abbey built by the Cistercian monks in southern England. Almost all the walls of its 13th century church still stand, together with many monastic buildings.

The buildings were converted into a fashionable Tudor house after the Suppression. Most traces of this house were removed in the 19th century, when Netley's ivy-clad remains, in their wooded setting, came to be celebrated as a perfect medieval ruin - and an inspiration for Romantic writers and poets.

The famine of 1932-1933 is an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people by the Communist party leadership and the government of the USSR in 1932-1933, by organizing an artificial famine that resulted in many millions of human losses.

The Soviet regime was hoping on the suppression of the Ukrainian national liberation movement and physical destruction of Ukrainian peasants.

It's a tragedy in the history of my Ukrainian people.

The Dissolution of the Monasteries, sometimes referred to as the Suppression of the Monasteries, was the set of administrative and legal processes between 1536 and 1541 by which Henry VIII disbanded Catholic monasteries, priories, convents and friaries in England, Wales and Ireland, appropriated/Stole their income,

The eastern bluebird (Sialia sialis) is a small North American migratory thrush found in open woodlands, farmlands, and orchards.

The bright-blue breeding plumage of the male, easily observed on a wire or open perch, makes this species a favorite of birders.

The eastern bluebird is found east of the Rockies, southern Canada to the Gulf states, and southeastern Arizona to Nicaragua. The increase in trees throughout the Great Plains during the past century due to fire suppression and tree planting facilitated the western range expansion of the species.[13] as well as range expansions of many other species of birds. From 1966-2015 the eastern bluebird experienced a greater than 1.5% annual population increase throughout most of its breeding and year-round ranges, with exceptions including southern Florida and the Ohio River valley.

Bluebirds tend to live in open country around trees, but with little understory and sparse ground cover. Original habitats probably included open, frequently burned pine savannas, beaver ponds, mature but open woods, and forest openings.

Today, they are most common along pastures, agricultural fields, suburban parks, backyards, and even golf courses. Populations also occur across eastern North America and south as far as Nicaragua. Birds that live farther north and in the west of the range tend to lay more eggs than eastern and southern birds. (Wiki)

Very emblematic house of the city. Perhaps built in 1448, as an inscription embedded in the facade would seem to indicate, the old hospital stands out above all for its impressive roof and its massing. It housed a huge ward for the sick, more than five meters high, the monumental supports of which remain, partially masked. Subsequently, the building served as a slaughterhouse and salt house until 1791. Significant work was carried out there in the 18th century, including the removal of the steeple which housed the Spitalglocke.

Everything is energy.

The collective consciousness is powerful and makes up the collective thought forms of humanity.

There has been a psychological attack upon the minds of men for as long as we have existed on this planet.

This attack has been on steroids this past few years.

Creating fear, division, suppression, anger - all the demonic energy has been in full swing.

The world is the devil's playground

Understand the symbiology that is used throughout our society.

So very sadly it is rampant in the music and entertainment industry.

I recognized when I first came to SL - this was the devil's playground. Sadly, I am seeing more and more of the demonic energy at play - willing participant's advocating all that is demonic . . . be very mindful where you choose to place your energy -

Everything you think, do, feel creates an energetic force that affects not just you, but your immediate surrounding and environment. Be careful of your thoughts, your actions and don't be a toxic waste dump on a society that is full of toxic waste.

It saddens me deeply to see so many creators and people cashing in on all that is demonic - this is just contributing to the demonic energy. Think about it please. It is like a dark vortex of alluring seductive energy that will suck you of your soul and all that is good about you!

Now is the time to dig deep, to find your courage - despite what is being played out on the world stage.

So much of what you are witnessing is optics - all illusion

We are in a war - a war of good v evil - these days were always going to come.

We are a result of our collective consciousness and what we are seeing play out globally is nothing short of demonic

Until people realize this demonic power has always been here - long before you and I existed - nothing will change.

Turn off your media - it is full of perception and lies. Be mindful of your thoughts and your feelings.

Do your own due diligence - all is not how it appears.

Hold tight, hold strong, bring moments of joy into your life no matter what - look for the beauty - it is there - . . .

A simple smile from a stranger

The sun glistening

The moon beaming at you

The simple things in life

A puppy playing

A bird singing

. . . . beauty is all around us if we open our eyes

Despite the chaos being played out - collectively we can change this

Hold tight, be courageous - let go and surrender - build your inner core

The veil has been lifting on humanity slowly but surely

Have faith we will get through this and we will create a better way of being in this world

Dismantling the evil was never going to be an easy task.

Sadly, there will always be those that sacrifice their lives - bless them - for in their sacrifice - they awaken others to the reality of this world

God Bless Humanity

For Mountain Monday

This mountain near the Valle Calderas is covered with burned conifers from a wildfire that occurred within the past few years.

Wildfires have always played a large role in the ecology of the Jemez Mountains. Over 300,000 acres of tree stands have been lost in high intensity fires since 1996 with three large fires: Oso, Cerro Grande, and Las Conchas. This is comparable to the cities of Boston and San Diego combined.

Such fires are the result of fire suppression, overgrazing, drought, and climate change. They are leading to the replacement of historic piñon, ponderosa pine, spruce and fir trees with Gambel Oak, New Mexico Locust, and other herbaceous vegetation. I think it is a stark visual reminder of the impact of climate change on fragile parts of our world. The mountains will remain, but what will they look like?

Thanks for stopping by and for all of your support -- I deeply appreciate it.

Cathedrale_Saint_Sacerdos

Sarlat Cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Sacerdos de Sarlat) is a Roman Catholic church and former cathedral located in Sarlat-la-Canéda, France. It is a national monument.

The Diocese of Sarlat was established in 1317 with a number of bishoprics in the region in the aftermath of the suppression of the Albigensians. The new bishop of Sarlat was the abbot of the ancient Sarlat Abbey, the church of which became the cathedral. Rebuilding began in 1504, but was not completed until the 1680s.[1] (The belfry dates from the 9th century). The diocese was abolished under the Concordat of 1801 and its territory was transferred to the Diocese of Périgueux.

The dedication refers to Saint Sacerdos rather than to the Latin term sacerdos ("priest"). There are two French saints called Sacerdos, but the cathedral refers to Sacerdos of Limoges, whose relics it received during the Middle Ages.

Croxden Abbey in the county of Staffordshire, begun in 1179 after Bertram de Verdun, an important local nobleman, granted land to a community of Cistercian monks in 1176. At its peak in the 13th century, Croxden housed about 70 monks. Following the monastery’s suppression in 1538 the abbey and its lands were converted into a farm. The visible remains today include parts of the abbey church, which was one of the most elaborate churches of any Cistercian abbey in England, together with the infirmary and abbot’s lodging.

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”

― Anais Nin

I adore Anais Nin, I have read several of her books and some a few times over. She understands the nature of being a woman in love in a way that is kindred to yourself. She feels your desires, your passion, and your pain.

This poem can be a metaphor for first love, the feeling that consumes you, takes over, where all the things that were important before suddenly cease to exists so that it can make more room for Love! Ahh first love, that messy, drunk, and fearless kinda love! You know the one with the rose colored glasses. Smiles.

It also can be one of transition. This poem was my inspiration for a tattoo that I have. It is a beautiful lotus flower merging from its bud and was a ear mark for a major transition in my own life.

This poem can also be a metaphor of fear and letting it go, for me that was the case, one where I learned to love the woman I am and not fear to become the woman I knew I could be.

It is in a woman's nature to fear, where it came from I do not know. Is it instinct to protect life or ages of suppression? No matter the cause we should never give into fear and always be strong so that we can fully be ourselves and love every minute of it.

The decline in native grasses and grasslands in the last two centuries has been caused by intensive cultivation, poorly managed grazing, urbanization, fire suppression, and the introduction of invasive, nonnative species.

Agriculture, invasion by exotic species, development, and other human-related activities have reduced California native grasslands by 99%.

Bluebird count for GBBC: 2

The eastern bluebird (Sialia sialis) is a small thrush found in open woodlands, farmlands, and orchards. It is the state bird of Missouri[2] and New York.

This species measures 16–21 cm (6.3–8.3 in) long, spans 25–32 cm (9.8–12.6 in) across the wings, and weighs 27–34 g (0.95–1.20 oz).[3][4] Eastern bluebirds are found east of the Rockies, southern Canada to the Gulf states, and southeastern Arizona to Nicaragua. The increase in trees throughout the Great Plains during the past century due to fire suppression and tree planting facilitated the western range expansion of the eastern bluebird[5] as well as range expansions of many other species of birds.

About two-thirds of the diet of an adult consists of insects and other invertebrates. The remainder of the bird's diet is made up of wild fruits or berries. Favored insect foods include grasshoppers, crickets, katydids, and beetles. Other food items include earthworms, spiders, millipedes, centipedes, sow bugs, and snails.

I personally have to add nuts to the diet. The bluebirds in my yard love peanuts.

I am at Wimpole Hall, Cambridgeshire (now a property of the National Trust and, hence, accessible to the public). Together with other tourists among the vestiges of the self-declared luminaries of a time past. In a way, I am in the midst of a grotesque monument of suppression. Starting with the local population (removed to make space for the grand estate or employed as servants) but extending into the West Indies and their enslaved people and to India that was treated as a self-service opportunity. Uneasy feelings. We cannot change what has happened, but we can make up our mind when we look at history and its monuments. Fuji X-E2.

It appears as if, unbelievably with the voter suppression tactics employed there, that both George Senate seats have been flipped and Republicans no longer control the senate. We may be finally emerging from the darkness although we should in no way feel comfortable.

The Camp Fire was the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California's history, and the most expensive natural disaster in the world in 2018 in terms of insured losses.

Named after Camp Creek Road, its place of origin, the fire started on Thursday, November 8, 2018, in Northern California's Butte County. Ignited by a faulty electric transmission line, the fire originated above several communities and an east wind drove the fire downhill through developed areas. After exhibiting extreme fire spread, fireline intensity, and spotting behaviors through the rural community of Concow, an urban firestorm formed in the foothill town of Paradise. Drought was a factor: Paradise, which typically sees five inches of autumn rain by November 12, had only received one-seventh of an inch by that date in 2018. With the arrival of the first winter rainstorm of the season, the fire reached 100 percent containment after seventeen days on November 25.

The fire caused at least 85 civilian fatalities, with one person still missing as of August 2, 2019, and injured 12 civilians and five firefighters. It covered an area of 153,336 acres (620.5 km2; 239.6 sq mi), and destroyed more than 18,000 structures, with most of the destruction occurring within the first four hours. The towns of Paradise and Concow were almost completely destroyed, each losing about 95% of their structures. The towns of Magalia and Butte Creek Canyon were also largely destroyed. By January 2019, the total damage was estimated at $16.5 billion; one-quarter of the damage, $4 billion, was not insured. The Camp Fire also cost over $150 million in fire suppression costs, bringing the total cost of the fire to $16.65 billion.

The same month, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), the utility company responsible for the faulty power line, filed for bankruptcy, citing expected wildfire liabilities of $30 billion. On December 6, 2019, the utility made a settlement offer of $13.5 billion for the wildfire victims; the offer covered several devastating fires caused by the utility, including the Camp Fire. On June 16, 2020, the utility pleaded guilty to 84 counts of involuntary manslaughter.

The Camp Fire is the deadliest wildfire in the United States since the Cloquet fire in 1918, and ranks number 13 on the list of the world's deadliest wildfires; it is the sixth-deadliest U.S. wildfire overall.

The European hornet (Vespa crabro) is the largest eusocial wasp native to Europe. It is also the only true hornet (genus Vespa) found in North America, having been introduced by European settlers in the 1800s.

These hornets are found in 30 states, from the eastern U.S. as far west as Louisiana and the Dakotas. European hornets are much larger than yellowjackets, and unlike most stinging insects, can be active at night.

V. crabro is usually regarded as a pest by those humans who come into contact with it. Vespines, such as V. crabro, are known for making intricate paper-like nests out of surrounding plant materials and other fibers. Unlike most other vespines, reproductive suppression involves worker policing instead of queen pheromone control, as was previously thought.

This species stings in response to being stepped on or grabbed, but generally avoids conflict. It is also defensive of its nest and can be aggressive around food sources. Care should be taken when they are found in these circumstances, as they may sting without warning.

European hornets are largely carnivorous and hunt large insects such as beetles, wasps, large moths, dragonflies, and mantises. They also feed on fallen fruit and other sources of sugary food.

…… In its day!! A grey old day today but then this Abbey has seen darker I'm sure!!! Lilleshall Abbey was closed in 1538 at the time of the suppression - a year later it became a house (a very grand one I’m sure!!) However in 1645 its fortifications were overcome and it was severely damaged in the Civil War (senseless destruction of our own heritage!). The ruins left behind are cared for by English Heritage. So that's my #230 taken on my phone in Apple RAW and edited in Lightroom. Alan:-)

The definition of dystopia according to google....

'Dystopian societies often feature a totalitarian regime that exerts absolute control over its citizens. This can manifest through strict laws, censorship, and the suppression of dissent. The government typically prioritizes its power over the well-being of individuals, leading to a society where personal freedoms are severely restricted.'

The house later passed into the hands of the Talbot family, and during the 19th century was the residence of William Henry Fox Talbot. In 1835 he made what is reckoned be the earliest surviving photographic camera negative, an image of one of the windows.

Now in the hands of the National Trust, the abbey itself and the village where it is located make regular appearances on TV and in films including several of the Harry potter films

Wikipedia: The eastern bluebird (Sialia sialis) is a small North American migratory thrush found in open woodlands, farmlands, and orchards.

The eastern bluebird is found east of the Rockies, southern Canada to the Gulf states, and southeastern Arizona to Nicaragua. The increase in trees throughout the Great Plains during the past century due to fire suppression and tree planting facilitated the western range expansion of the species.

Bluebirds were popular with early American colonists and associated with the coming of spring. They were referred to as the 'blue robin' because of their resemblance to the European robin.

Conservation status: Least Concern

The new statue in front of the Solid Rock Church in Lebanon, Ohio. In 2012, this statue, titled Lux Mundi (Light of the World), replaced the former statue, officially titled King of Kings. The latter had a number of nicknames due to various aspects of the statue itself, most famously:

Touchdown Jesus due to the pose of the statue, which resembled the signal that an American football referee uses to indicate a touchdown; and

Butter Jesus due to the color of the statue, which was made of styrofoam coated with fiberglass.

The latter was destroyed in 2010 in a lightning strike that set it on fire, leaving only a metal frame. US media had a lot of fun with this. One headline was "Butter Jesus is Toast," and others claimed that even God himself disliked the statue.

Wikipedia says that the new statue, also known as Hug Me Jesus is made of polymer composite and steel, and was mainly fabricated by Display Dynamics of Clayton, Ohio. Since the original statue at Solid Rock Church was destroyed by fire, the new statue incorporates fire resistant materials including a lightning suppression system. Following several months of work, the major pieces of the statue were assembled together at the site on September 19, 2012, and it was dedicated eleven days later.

Desolation : Evidence of acts of vandalism after the revolution of 1789. In 1790, the Constituent Assembly voted to suppress all religious communities. Cluny, now national, becomes a stone quarry. The demolishers set to work until 1810, a year marked by the fall of the choir steeple, the portal and the fore nave. Cluny is nothing more than a field of ruins. One of the greatest theological and intellectual centers of the medieval West, is forgotten. The few remaining remains give no idea of the abbey. Then, passionate historians provided important archaeological work to find its memory. We can now reconstitute at least virtually what this high place of history was.

Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles are three American cities that I have been interested in for a long time, whether in terms of music, art, or politics.

The debates surrounding democracy, freedom, and human rights, as well as the suppression of fascism, are topics that connect me to these cities.

Lacock Abbey in the village of Lacock, Wiltshire, England, was founded in the early 13th century by Ela, Countess of Salisbury, as a nunnery of the Augustinian order. The abbey remained a nunnery until the suppression of Roman Catholic institutions in England in the 16th century; it was then sold to Sir William Sharington who converted the convent into a residence where he and his family lived. It was fortified and remained loyal to the crown during the English Civil War, but surrendered to the Parliamentary forces once Devizes had fallen in 1645.

Some interior sequences in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) were filmed at Lacock, including the cloister walk where Harry discovers the Mirror of Erised and when he comes out from Professor Lockhart's room after serving detention and hears the basilisk. Scenes from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) were also shot here.

Easby Abbey is one of the best-preserved monasteries in Britain of the Premonstratensian order. It was founded in about 1152 by Roald, constable of

Richmond, and later enjoyed the patronage of the Scrope family. After its suppression in 1536 the buildings rapidly lapsed into ruin, before becoming an

object of interest for antiquarians and Romantic artists in the 18th and 19th centuries. The grandeur of the surviving buildings testifies to the success

and wealth of the abbey.

Before the Abbey

Easby Abbey lies about 1.5 miles south of Richmond, North Yorkshire. The hamlet of Easby is listed in the Domesday survey of 1086 as ‘Asebi’, which

was held by Enisan Murdac, an important local landowner.[1] Murdac was a vassal of Alan le Roux or ‘the Red’, Earl of Richmond (c 1040–1093).

Evidence suggests that a religious community of some sort existed on the site before the abbey was founded. This was probably based on the existing

parish church of St Agatha, and may have been an Anglian minster, a community of priests responsible for serving the surrounding parishes.

Foundation of Easby Abbey

The abbey of St Agatha at Easby was founded in about 1152 by Roald (d.1158), constable or principal officer of Richmond . Roald’s identity is unclear,

but it has been suggested that he was the younger son of Hacuil, or Hasculf, de St James, lord of Tansor in Northamptonshire and of estates in Oxfordshire.

Roald established Easby as a Premonstratensian monastery, only the third such house to be founded in England. In the process, the existing minster

community was probably absorbed into the new abbey.

The Premonstratensian order was founded in 1121 in Prémontré, France, by St Norbert of Xanten. Most monks followed the 6th-century Rule of St Benedict,

renouncing the world for a contemplative life. Norbert elected instead to follow the older Rule of St Augustine, which better fitted his aims

that Premonstratensians should serve communities by preaching, teaching, charitable work, and sometimes by direct service as parish priests
