We built temporary supports under the rafters, removed 2 of 3 2x8's that made up the original header, and replaced new pressure treated: [2] 2x8's; [1] 2x6 [in the center]; and [2] 2x10's. This lumber spans both doors, a total span of ~24', with the center wall in between.
That is a big honking beam. It is very much overbuilt to carry the relatively light load of this roof, but because the top plate had some termite damage, we add the 2x10's to help carry the load of the rafters.

Due to the support of our amazing partners and volunteers, 2,000 native plants were installed on this beautiful morning at the refuge!! We saw Tundra Swans (!), Great Blue Herons, and the consistently awesome squawking Canada Geese provided the background chorus while planting. It was so awesome to be part of the Chicken Creek rechannelization restoration -- kudos to everyone involved!!
