An interactive exhibition for children based on an American Children’s Museum model will open its doors in Ceske Budejovice on October 28, 2011. The exhibition will be divided into four themes – the manmade environment and everyday life; nature and technology; art and culture; and the past and present. The project aims to inspire young children to learn more about fascinating aspects of the world we live in, a unique exhibit will present the history and culture of New York City. There is a special program for children every Saturday.

With support from USAID through NHPplus, Tharaka Nithi Green Gold CBO has trained a network of Champion Mothers like 64-year-old Helene Mitugo, a retiired primary school teacher, who promotse good nutrition by reaching out to household. The champions encourage households to produce their own vegetable and to keep small stock for protein. They also work with community health volunteers to identify malnourised children and pregant woken, who they refer to local health facilities for support.
USAID’s Kenya Nutrition and Health program Plus (NHPplus) works with local partners to implement community interventions to improve nutrition and food security for households. In Tharaka Nithi County, NHPplus has partnered with a community-based organization, Tharaka Nithi Green Gold (TGG), to train members of self-help groups to integrate nutrition education into their livelihood activities. The CBO is a consortium of eight community groups with over 160 members, 122 of them women. With NHPplus support, the CBO members promote technologies to improve access and consumption of diversified diets. For instance, the group has promoted adoption of vertical bags. The technology is particularly useful in areas where water is scarce, like vast areas of Tharaka Nithi County, one of five counties, also supported by Feed the Future, where NHPplus is implementing agrinutrition interventions with support from USAID. By September 2018, TGG members have established 127 vertical gardens using bags provided by the project for demonstration. Due to growing demand, the CBO has started making its own bags for sale to members and other community members.
Besides the vertical bags and other bio-intensive gardening techniques, TGG members have also been trained on rearing of small livestock such as chickens and rabbits, and value addition of farm produce to improve availability of food for families across seasons and for income.
Tharaka Nithi Green Gold is now passing on the knowledge and skills learnt through support from USAID NHPplus to other community groups from the county and beyond.

The British Army’s global response force
has tested its ability to deploy and fight at short notice in some of Africa’s most challenging environments.
The soldiers of 3 PARA Battlegroup honed both their fighting and fieldcraft skills on the Kenyan savannah as part of the six-week long Exercise Haraka Storm.
Dealing with the rough terrain, searing heat and potentially deadly animals - ranging from lions and elephants to scorpions and snakes – troops followed a progression of training, building from polishing their individual skills and specialities to a final mission which sees the whole force operating together to assault a heavily-defended objective.
The 1,000-strong battlegroup is built around the airborne infantry of Colchester-based 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment, bolstered by artillery, engineers, signallers, medics, and logisticians from across 16 Air Assault Brigade Combat Team.
Specially trained and equipped to deploy by parachute, helicopter or airlanding, the 3 PARA Battlegroup is currently held at very high readiness to respond to global crises. In April, it deployed to Sudan to provide security and logistic support to the evacuation of British civilians.

Amazingly, the root system for these giant redwoods only go down into the soil a few feet, but spread out laterally hundreds of feet, intertwining with the root systems of the adjacent trees. In that regard, these trees help support each other in terms of supporting their heights. Some of these trees are over 300 feet tall!

One week later, the sequestrator ordered an almost 3 m tall wall to be built, separating the Oranienburger Straße from the building's courtyard. The future concept for the building remains undecided.[4]
