The Herbert Chapel contains recumbent monuments and effigies, in both alabaster and marble, associated with the ap Thomas and Herbert families. Sir Richard Herbert was brought up with the young Henry Tudor, the future Henry VII, at Raglan Castle. In 1485 Herbert supported Henry's claim to the throne, fighting with him as he defeated Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth. It is this support that ultimately saw St Mary's spared the worst of the despoliation of monasteries in the dissolution.
Within the chapel are also monumental brasses dating from the 16th and 17th centuries.
The Priory Church of St Mary, Abergavenny is a parish church in the centre of Abergavenny in Monmouthshire, Wales.

St. Mary's has been called "the Westminster Abbey of Wales" because of its large size, and the numerous high status tomb monuments and medieval effigies surviving within it. The church was designated as a Grade I listed building on 1 July 1952.
It was originally the church of the Benedictine Priory, established under Hamelin de Balun the first Norman holder of the title Lord Abergavenny, which in the 1090s became Baron Bergavenny. At this time it was a cell of the Abbey of Saint Vincent at Le Mans in France. Recent archaeological surveys have revealed significant finds of Roman Samian ware pottery, suggesting that the church may have been built on the site of a previous place of Romano-British and possibly Celtic worship.
Henry de Abergavenny was a prior here and later at Llandaff in the late 12th century and was chosen to assist at the coronation of King John I of England in 1199. Successive Lords of Abergavenny were by necessity also benefactors, including William de Braose, 4th Lord of Bramber.
In 1320 John Hastings, 2nd Baron Hastings, called on the Pope to set up an investigation into the Priory, in which the monks were accused of failing to maintain the Benedictine Rule. The prior, Fulk Gaston, absconded to the mother Abbey with the church silver.
By the time of the Dissolution of the Monasteries the Priory had only the prior and four monks. Due to the close connections between the Lords of Abergavenny and the Tudor dynasty the priory was spared and became the parish church.
The chief claim to fame for the church today lies in its collection of effigies. The effigies are in wood, alabaster and marble and range in date from the 13th century to the 17th century. One effigy is that of John de Hastings, Lord of Abergavenny (died 1324) and shows him as a young knight, wearing a long surcoat over a hauberk and a hood of fine chainmail.

The Soldiers of Headquarters Support Company, 1st Cavalry Division bade farewell to the Soldiers of the Bosnia i Herzegovina Army Force Protection Unit 004 in a celebration held Dec. 20, 2016 at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan. Combat medics from the Charlottesville-based Company C, 429th Brigade Support Battalion conduct medical evacuation training June 24 at the Fort Pickett urban operations training site. In the training scenario, Soldiers in a convoy are ambushed and sustain injuries that require medical attention, and medics moved forward to provide combat life support to simulated casualties. After being stabilized, the “injured” Soldiers are moved to a collection point for aerial evacuation provided by helicopters from the West Virginia National Guard. Images of the supports under Interstate 759 Bridges over the Coosa River at Gadsden, Alabama, USA. These are different because the individual spans across the river were built at different times.
With support from USAID through NHPplus, Tharaka Nithi Green Gold CBO has trained a network of Champion Mothers like 64-year-old Helene Mitugo, a retiired primary school teacher, who promotse good nutrition by reaching out to household. The champions encourage households to produce their own vegetable and to keep small stock for protein. They also work with community health volunteers to identify malnourised children and pregant woken, who they refer to local health facilities for support.
USAID’s Kenya Nutrition and Health program Plus (NHPplus) works with local partners to implement community interventions to improve nutrition and food security for households. In Tharaka Nithi County, NHPplus has partnered with a community-based organization, Tharaka Nithi Green Gold (TGG), to train members of self-help groups to integrate nutrition education into their livelihood activities. The CBO is a consortium of eight community groups with over 160 members, 122 of them women. With NHPplus support, the CBO members promote technologies to improve access and consumption of diversified diets. For instance, the group has promoted adoption of vertical bags. The technology is particularly useful in areas where water is scarce, like vast areas of Tharaka Nithi County, one of five counties, also supported by Feed the Future, where NHPplus is implementing agrinutrition interventions with support from USAID. By September 2018, TGG members have established 127 vertical gardens using bags provided by the project for demonstration. Due to growing demand, the CBO has started making its own bags for sale to members and other community members.
Besides the vertical bags and other bio-intensive gardening techniques, TGG members have also been trained on rearing of small livestock such as chickens and rabbits, and value addition of farm produce to improve availability of food for families across seasons and for income.
Tharaka Nithi Green Gold is now passing on the knowledge and skills learnt through support from USAID NHPplus to other community groups from the county and beyond.
