Thanks for visiting, enjoy your weekend. It is a long weekend in Ontario because Monday is a public holiday celebrating Family Day.

Just received my first exhibit showing some of my bald eagle photography at the Murchison Performing Arts Center at UNT, sponsored by the Greater Denton Arts Council. It's an honor to be selected. The show will continue through May 2022. There is also an online exhibit at dentonarts.com/lockwood for those of you who are not local to the DFW area. The photographs are 20x30 inches on metal. A portion of all proceeds go to the Greater Denton Arts Council, and I am donating 100% of the show's profits to a scholarship endowment fund to support photography students at UNT.

This has been a looooong time coming.

And, as always, there’s prints available in the shop, too!

Right in time for Black Friday / Thanksgiving / Hanukah / Christmas / Whatever / Commercialism!

Happy International Dance Day, which is the anniversary of the birth of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727–1810), who is considered to be the "father" or creator of modern ballet (i.e. classical or romantic ballet as we know it today not "Modern Ballet" as this is sometimes confused with contemporary ballet.) On International Dance Day, celebrations are organised at UNESCO Headquarters and worldwide to host events such as special performances, dance nights, forums, seminars, exhibitions, masterclasses, and lectures. These performers are incredible athletes as well, so please remember to support the arts. Thanks to Lauren for working with me.

There was a fresh coat of snow from a storm in the early morning hours and heavy security around the courthouse (just to the left of this frame), so the scene was left pretty much untouched and in a state of temporary preservation. Had a nice chat with homeland security while I was taking this one due to the trial taking place. Officer was super nice and a pleasure to speak with, his dog was anxious to go and I think he was confident I was there to take photos so he left. Never have I felt so safe taking a photo I can tell you that, it was a beautiful thing, and I always enjoy a chat with a fine gentleman that supports the arts.

Always love that the city supports the arts in Kamloops quite heavily. Tonight it was the Jeremy Kneeshaw Band -- very good pop jazz.

I’ve been trying to do a little bit more exploring in Secondlife lately, trying to reclaim that feeling of wonder when I first joined. So it was lovely to have some time with ColeMarie Soleil who took me on a tour around the Looking Glass at Horizon Dream - the beautiful sim created by Marcus Inkpen & Sharni Azalee.

I love how complicated the entire architecture is yet so easy to load for what it is, there’s so many secret nooks and spots in here that it truly is mindblowing. If you’re someone that loves fantasy or just having little pockets of places to hide and escape, this is truly a place for you!

Sadly, the Brooklyn Museum of Art is hurting financially, and will be cutting back in a number of ways. About 10% of the staff is being let go, executives are taking pay cuts, and the number of annual exhibits is being cut 25% (from twelve to nine). Support the arts!

Come support a good cause and see me and other local artists! I’ll have prints for sale at lower prices than on my website, and I’d love to see all of you there! There will be music and fun and drinks for sale!

Alright, y’all…

After years of taking photographs and after years of everyone asking about this…

I’m finally selling prints of my photography!!!!!

I’m starting out small with just some 8×11 prints and a small selection of my best work, but we’ll move to bigger sizes and different materials soon!

Also- if you know of a photo that I’ve posted here or on flickr or instagram that isn’t on Etsy… ask me to upload it. It’s easy and I can make a listing for you.

In addition to that- I know everyone wants calendars. That’ll happen as we get closer to 2024 and it’s a better deal to make a calendar for a whole new year.

Anyway. That’s that. Thanks for keeping the pressure on me to finally do this. I’ve always wanted to and it’s REALLY nice to finally have this done.

Enjoy! Welcome to my store! I don’t know! Something something support the arts!

If I remember correctly, these shots of the toy exhibit were taken at what is now the Appleton-Patterson Center, which you can find in other shots on this web site. The name comes from two folks from the DENTON RECORD-CHRONICLE newspaper who supported the arts in Denton, Texas. These toys in the picture go back a ways, probably to the 1950's; note the propellers on then plane. The 1950's were an exuberant era of new materials, new products, and lots of mass production--that is to say, that we kids had a lot of stuff to play with. It was a great era of war toys, too. That horrifies a lot of people today, but many of that generation grew up to be pacifists and hippies, so who knows what will do what to whom.

Despite my well known disappointment with the New 52, I hope that we can all agree that Francis Manapul's artwork on The Flash (N52) was incredible! His redesigns of Golden Glider, The Rouges, and Mr Grodd were some really solid stuff! Most specifically what comes to mind though was his paneling and use of integrating text into the artwork itself and no one does it better than Francis!

Kat's MF design (with Christo's printing) is no exception to those feelings! I realized when I picked up this figure back in late July of last year, that I never took any solo photos of Daniel West! So here's me fixing that! :)

Daniel West is an interesting Speedster, and he worked pretty well in the N52's Flash Family dynamic at the time! (...Still not sure how I feel about Iris as a Speedster though...) He's also rather enjoyable in his brief run in The N52 Suicide Squad as well. I hope he's still kickin it in the Speedforce somewhere and we'll see him again one day.

But yeah... with Christo recently sending out his Yellow Suicide Squad variant's of Danny boy, I figured it was as good a time as any to share some solo shots of him :)

And no, I'm a little tight on cash right now, so sadly I missed out on the SS Yellow variant... buuuuuuut if you want to support me on Patreon perhaps I won't miss out on one of Christo's next releases ;)

It's only a dollar! (you don't even need to spend that much if you don't want to!) Pay what you want and support the arts! :)

I've got some great projects coming soon! Some new Mad Max stuff is just around the corner, with a Mr Freeze Lair hot (or cold) on it's heels, then some Throwback Thursday's from photoshoots pre-2014, maybe even Amnesty Bay if that all works out ;)

You can see all of that before anyone on Flickr! That also includes all the behind the scenes/work in progress that takes place in any given shoot! :)

Really though, show your support and grow the community! I'd hate to stop sharing my work because I can't afford it! :P

Thanks guys :)

Banging your head against the wall thinking of ways to support the arts? Prints are available!

Lousy Smarch Weather #4: Lupine Fields of Iceland.

Photos from this series, along with others, are available as prints. You can check them out on my website: bit.ly/2IGqA0z. I can do a variety of sizes, with or without a frame, print or canvas wrap. Message me for details.

Opened in 1939 as a Catholic convent and school, the brick building still stands... but it has a convoluted history. Abandoned for years, with extensive water damage and a caved-in roof, it was about to be sold for scrap in 1996 when Robert Ducan, from BC, travelling across Canada with his son Adam, found himself in a campground just across the street, waiting for repairs to his VW van. He later said that he just couldn't allow such a beautiful old building to disappear. Instead, he went down to the village office to inquire, and within a few hours his offer of $1,000 had been accepted and he was the new owner.

Handy, energetic, and undoubtedly with a vision, he began renovating immediately, and eight months later The Convent Inn opened for business and housed its first guests. Much of the original woodwork and other features remain intact, including the original blackboards in what was a classroom. Chalk is supplied and guests are welcome to leave words of wisdom for others. I stayed there many times prior to buying my own house in Val Marie; it's a great place to host photography workshops and seminars, which I did for many years. Robert - who had been elected Mayor of Val Marie when I met him in 1999 - always supported the arts, and I became the beneficiary of this as Artist in Residence during the winter of 2000-01, which gave me a unique opportunity to do my first winter prairie photography. This led to my participation in a group gallery exhibition, and subsequently shooting a book for the writer Candace Savage, which directly led to my own book, Wild Prairie. That is only part of the chain of events in my life 20 years ago.

Robert died of liver cancer in January 2019, but his legacy continues. His son, Adam, and widow, Mette, now run The Convent Inn in the same spirit; countless guests have fallen in love with the old building and return again and again. With incredible birding and a national park figuratively a stone's throw away, The Convent is a landmark and a key cog in the local tourism infrastructure. And everyone sleeps really, really well there.

As for this photo, it was a dark and stormy night when I parked my car outside the property, hoping for a lightning flash directly above the building. That didn't happen, but I did catch an eerie purple glow in the sky. This was used as the lead photo in Judith Wright's story about The Convent in the current issue of Prairies North magazine (Summer 2021). Ten other shots round out the coverage. Truth is, I'd rather be photographing wildlife, but I do love the old building, and many of the images pulled from my personal photo files are the result of my incomprehensible compulsion to document everything of significance in my life. A job that feels more like play than work is the best kind of job.

The lack of EXIF data is because I used my ancient manual focus Nikon 24mm lens for this 88 second exposure at ISO 100, shooting from the imagined safety of my car. The storm wasn't all that close. And obviously I didn't get zapped.

As of a couple weeks ago the photography program at my school was cut. Not because of low class sizes but only because of money. It's heartbreaking to know that a school that is said to support the arts is cutting one of the only art classes it still has.

So for this weeks photo I've decided to do somewhat of a tribute to all the time i spent in the darkroom. It was honestly the most peaceful place in school and i have so many good memories of it. I'm going to miss it, all the smells of the developer and the stop and fix chemicals, the red lights, the old enlargers, everything.

So this photo may not be the most creative or deep but it stands for something that matters a lot to me and i think that it's important that i post this.

Art classes provide so much for high school students, not only do they teach us to hone in on our skills and improve ourselves but they also offer some relief and a break in all the stress of school.

To any school board people out there, stop cutting these programs. They matter.

The weather in Seattle today was GLORIOUS!!!

The National Gallery of Art (NGA) is one of the best museums in the world. It is probably my place to visit in Washington, D.C. Incredible art everywhere - wow - what a great collection of masterpieces in a lovely setting.

I visited the NGA at the conclusion of my obligatory annual family visit to western PA in October 2011. What amazes me is that for the first half of my life I knew absolutely nothing about art (except for my velvet paining of the dogs playing poker!) and now I appreciate it so much.

This is definitely a must see destination in D.C. - please check it out and support the arts!

I dedicate this picture to my sweet friend Ed Kinsella, who has bought me a pro account and is a wonderful supporter of my work. A special thanks to him and to all those who support the arts.

If there are any benevolent millionaires out there who want to support the arts ala Abel Magwitch, I would love to live here and take pictures all day long. I don't need much to survive....just a small flat and an allowance for film...I don't eat much...of course I do currently have a retirement plan...but that's negotiable...Can you imagine? That would be amazing.

Thought I'd try an old school theme with a new color palette. I've painted so many barn landscapes, but I found a new challenge by just using a different palette.

On April 23, 2010 at the Hinsdale Center for the Arts' "String of Pearls" 30th Anniversary Gala, a black tie affair supporting the center, this original watercolor auctioned for $750.00. It is exciting that my art was so well received and helps support the arts.

"Support the arts. Make a donation for pictures." Cool sign spotted on the ground in the very famous Hosier Lane in Melbourne, Australia. For those of you who aren't familiar, it's a laneway completely filled with graffiti (and I mean COMPLETELY filled). It changes daily as people continually spray new artwork over the old.

A black and white photo taken of the Denver Art Museum in the morning

This 1933 Chrysler Imperial was on display at the 2017 Ol’ Marais River Run Car Show held in Ottawa Kansas. The 1930’s were a time when travel to our National Parks was greatly encouraged. I imagine families that could afford a fine car like this enjoyed the scenic byways as they traveled across our country visiting their favorite parks.

1931-1933 Chrysler Imperial

The Chrysler Imperial was redesigned in 1931. The car received a new 384.84-cubic inch (6308.85 cc) straight-eight engine. Marketing materials for this generation of Imperial referred to the car as the "Imperial 8", in reference to the new in-line 8-cylinder engine. The engine would be found in many other Chrysler vehicles. The Imperial Custom had rust-proof fenders, automatic heater control and safety glass.[4] The limo even came with a Dictaphone.

The redesign also saw the introduction of new wire wheels that became a standard wheel treatment until the 1940s. Stock car driver Harry Hartz set numerous speed records with an Imperial sedan at Daytona Beach, Florida. It was introduced shortly after the Rolls-Royce Phantom II, Mercedes-Benz 770, Packard Eight, Duesenberg Model J, Cadillac Series 355, and Lincoln K-series appeared in the 1930s.

Travel Posters

The travel posters were created by the Work Projects Administration and was one of the first U.S. government programs to support the arts, producing some 2,000 beautifully designed posters from 1936 to 1943 that include illustrated tributes to a number of the country’s most notable landmarks.

Inspired by those early works, Buffalo, New York-based photographer Douglas Levere commissioned designer and artist Steven Thomas to illustrate a series of neo-vintage See America posters for America's national parks

With all the changes to Flickr this could be our last show. If I could take this time to thank Manuel Diumenjó for creating such a showcase that supports the arts and for his endless hours, days, and years of dedication! ♥️♥️♥️

"Hyde Park artist Curtis Locke, alas, falls into the strict constructionist camp. He does not recognize dibs on a public street. On the contrary, he drives around town collecting all those old chairs and milk crates, takes them home and adds them to his backyard art installation, 'Chicago Dibs Project.'

He calls it 'folk art.'

Remember this if, because Locke took your space saver, you must shovel out a new parking space. You are supporting the arts, like when you give to public television."
