OK I finally bit the bullet and got one gal I ALWAYS wanted when I was a kid (but could never find… Australia didn’t have many AA dolls up until the early 80’s … but I saw her in the 1978 booklet looking spectacular wearing some of the fashions when I was a kid and always wanted her… so here she is!) I especially wanted this one as her eyebrows looked a little raised, which makes her grin a bit more enigmatic, like Barbie just told her something surprising and funny! Or like she’s just a bit tipsy! LOL I also love her tawny makeup and those very cool caramel-coloured streaks in her beautiful long hair… soooo 70’s! Perhaps because of that, she actually has a very different, more ‘coppery’ skin tone than Black Barbie has. And how about that yellow satin dress and glittery boa? (which is much puffier than I remember my Barbie’s being back then…) I’m also crazy about that yellow superstar stand… She was NRFB (and still has her black hair string… I just combed the hair over it as strands of her hair were poking out of it in weird ways,) but can’t wait to dress her up in some Superstar era fashions as she would look great in everything!

Some new dolls and fashions on my ‘Superstar’ era shelf: - Along with Fashion Photo Barbie and 'Elaine', Superstar Christie in her ‘Best Buy’ fashion from 1978, Disco Juanita and Beauty Secrets Barbie, my newly arrived European version of Western Barbie is wearing ‘Dramatic Blue & Silver Aglitter!’ #2481 from 1978. She is very different from the American version in that she has the regular non-winking ‘Superstar’ face, but on a ‘Living’ body (with flat feet!!!) and the old ‘Busy’ hands that grasp things, hence she is holding her silver disco bags from the 1978 ‘Fashion Add-ons’ set. Next to her, my Barbie BFF Dean's gifted Roller-Skating Barbie is in the repro Superstar fashion ‘Dramatic Black & Silver Shimmer!’ #9837 from 1976/77, though this one has the addition of a black sequinned cap (similar to the promotional issue Superstar Barbie’s cap,) and a marabou feather boa instead of the usual ruffled nylon one… Beauty Secrets Barbie is also wearing a new outfit from the 1980 ‘Fashion Favourites’ line- ‘Casual Chic’ (#1940) which also comes with a straight pull-on skirt. I love how I can pose her just like the illustration in the booklet and on the package, to make the most of those very 80’s batwing sleeves!
She's such a natural beauty! The dolls so photogenic. Every pose is a good photo! I really feel this doll is magic. Because every outfit she wears, of any era, she can rock it! Her makeup is so simple, yet classic and reminiscent of the original 1959 Barbie. Superstar Barbie is like the ultimate Barbie doll to me. And this one that I restored, and gave platinum blonde hair too, is my favorite!
