Spring scene from happy pre-Covid times, photographed at the Britzer Garten, one of the largest and most beautiful public parks in Berlin. Originally, the park had been created for the Bundesgartenschau 1985 (BUGA – a biennial federal horticulture show in Germany), the first BUGA to be held in Berlin (West). After the BUGA, the park area had been extended and was re-opened as the Britzer Garten in 1989. Apart from the everyday recreational park goings-on, there are annual flower shows such as the Tulipan in spring, the Rhododendron and Azalea Show, or the Dahlienfeuer ("Dahlia Fire") in autumn, plus other festivals and events throughout the year. Back in 1985, the BUGA had been a huge thing, and I remember well the automated recording on the metro – every morning when I went to school, and every afternoon when I returned home from school – which was played when we passed a certain interchange station: "Passengers travelling to the Bundesgartenschau, please change here for the U7."

Happy Sliders Sunday, Everyone, stay safe and healthy!

Spot the two birds :)

For a change, this is a new (outside!) photo, taken just a few days ago at the wonderful Britzer Garten, one of Berlin's biggest and most beautiful public parks (please check my album for more "Britz bliss", if you like).

For better dynamic range, I've used exposure bracketing (three images), pre-processed the images in DXO PhotoLab (sharpness and DeepPrime denoising only), from which I directly went into HDR Efex Pro to combine the images. I'm trying to get away from the annual Adobe subscription, and combining images from an exposure bracketing series in HDR Efex instead of Lightroom is one step into that direction. Unfortunately, whenever I think I can finally leave Adobe behind for good they come up with improvements such as the new "supersize" function (now also available in LR), a ton of new presets for LR, and other interesting stuff (and I'm still used to the LR/PS workflow, and the layers in PS). Well, maybe I'll be ready next year ;)

Extra sliding was done in Color Efex, where I added some "Brilliance and Warmth" and a tiny bit of "Contrast Color Range".

Happy Sliders Sunday, Everyone, stay safe and have a nice week ahead!

The supermoon but not in supersize. The best you can do from your garden when in lock-down; luckily the clouds were not too thick. Bath, Somerset, England.

Taken in local woodland. This is straight out of the camera with no processing. Modern cameras are brilliant if set up right. IMHO.

A fellow Flickr friend told me the Holga 120 Pano cameras are again available so I ordered one.

Yes, she is all things Holga, but supersized. - very fun camera.

And the one I have comes with a 35mm mask !!

Image size with 120 mask = 118 x 54.

Image size without 120 mask = 130 x 60.

These birds were nesting and this one was showing off to a female. The straw he picked up was too big for the nest, but then size matters here!

This is the typical courting behaviour of the Silverbills - carry a supersized straw and dangle in front the female with some kind of special moves to woo her. There were several suitors, but the large straw gives him a better chance of wooing the female. Once accepted, the male brings nesting materials to the female, while the female builds the nest - a small cup in the bushes.

These are resident birds - around 10-14 cms - found throughout the country easily in the countryside. The birds are always seen in flocks and found together around other munias like Scaly Breasted and Tri-colored.

Thanks in advance for your views and feedback. Much appreciated.

This Kingfisher bit off more than she could chew and ended dropping the crayfish in the water.

I spent a good day yesterday with my good friends (I think) Tony Nixon & Andy Stuthridge and we had a great time snapping these and cirl buntings. The sun even came out.

Male yellowhammers are unmistakeable with a bright yellow head and underparts, brown back streaked with black, and chestnut rump. In flight it shows white outer tail feathers. They are often seen perched on top of a hedge or bush, singing.

Its recent population decline make it a Red List species.

Despite the high ISO noise in this image, I love the graceful geometric beauty of the wing feathers and the rich colours of this great-looking Mallard male. I muted the background in order to make the bird stand out more; it was too busy otherwise.

Here is side by side view M16 in Narrowband and in broadband RGBL + and Ha.

It is at times like this one wishes for a supersized filter wheel that will hold a full compliment of NB and RGBL filters. Instead I have 3 x 5 position carousels and frequent change-overs so RGB stars are a luxury I don't usually stretch too when shooting narrowband. However this time I went all the way. :) Hope you enjoy

I hope you aren't too tired of this view yet, but I really wanted to post the color version of "The Dark City" (or "Supersized", sans moon). I really like both versions equally.

And just for the record, I fixed the white balance AND desaturated the blue channel significantly on this, so I didn't do anything to amp up the blue here. Also, for these shots, I employed a manual focusing trick that Aaron taught me on the Oregon coast workshop, which I'm finding super useful for getting better clarity and sharpness SOOC. I don't think it's a big secret, but if you want to know the trick, you'll have to take a workshop from him. Or I'll let him share it. :)

It's almost Springtime at the Ottawa River near Mud Lake. I love the powder blue tones of the background water and snow-covered wooded embankment.

As I've been saying since early January when I first got them, I just can't get over how awesome this Nikon D500 camera is and the Nikon af-s 200-500mm/f5.6 lens. They're always surprising me!
