A bit bigger than a domestic version, this mill at St. Monans was used to pump up sea-water into 9 salt-pans where the water was heated to aid evaporation & hence produce salt for local use and for export. In the late 18th century salt was a valuable commodity & Scotland's 3rd largest export after fish and wool. The foundations in the foreground are the only ones left from the original 9 pans.
However moves are afoot to revive salt-making, albeit on a much smaller scale www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-55485370
Last light put on quite the show on Lake Superior tonight. Here it is, finally sinking slowly below the horizon. It just didn't want to give up on such a great day. Goodnight, Superior!
I found this 1977-78 Chrysler LeBaron coupe at T&B Motors on Raymond and Bluff Rd in Indianapolis. Of course this rare example is already sold. Hopefully someone will restore it to it's former glory. It was rainy, cold and windy so most of my shots were bad quality but I managed to salvage a couple.
I have spent many hours over the years searching the rocky shores of Lake Superior for the elusive agate.

To celebrate being together for 21 years (and going vegan 15 years ago!) we drove to Upper Michigan for the day. After picking up some vegan pasties, we visited Presque Isle Park in Marquette and enjoyed a perfect picnic looking out at Lake Superior. It was a delicious lunch with quite the grand view!
The small town of Superior, AZ is about 60 miles east of Phoenix. It was founded early in the last century as a result of huge nearby mining operations. Mining has reduced and the town has struggled as a result. These church buildings have changed hands a number of times.
Happy Monochrome Monday!
It is hard to believe that the warmth of this image, was created on one of the coldest evenings, on the north shore.

No, the title is not a reference to the quality of the ice, rather, that's where the ice is. This image is from a recent trip to the Great Lakes, specifically, Lake Superior. I know what you might be thinking, no, this is NOT the Apostle Island National Seashore, 'those' ice caves are not open this year. This is from his very little brother (very) on the eastern shoe, specifically on the Chequamegon Bay, near Washburn. These caves, if you can call them caves, are not the same as those on the west side. Any icicles here are not the result of violent waves, but onshore creeks and streams flowing into the bay. We were very lucky to get about 2 hours of sunshine on the whole trip to Wisconsin, and we happened to be walking on the water (ice) when it happened.
My wife and I have never walked on a frozen lake before, not like this. Kind of freaky. You can hear the ice creaking and cracking as you walk, and sometimes your footprints slowly fill with water.
Let me know what you think.

My final posting from our quick trip "Up North" last weekend.
It was a moody mix of sunshine, wind and clouds most of the day, but enjoyed the challenge of it!
Never a dull moment on the big lake!

At the crack of dawn, the night turns to day on the windy shores of Lake Superior; a colorful sky ensues. After a hectic and sleepless night, this was a nice sign of things to come, I suppose.
