Social media. You’re on the Internet reading a blog, so odds are pretty darn good that you have at least one of the big accounts. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, etc. They’ve changed the ways we work, interact with friends and strangers, and search for information. SM’s a big deal!
Not to be rude, but some people use their social media accounts —how to say this?— less effectively than others. In some hands, a Twitter account becomes an effective means of gathering and categorizing information, while others confuse themselves and befuddle others, posting stuff that … well … would fall into the category of commandment #9 down there.
So to help those who are in need of it, and give the old hands a refresher course, QuiBids’ social media guy Blake Brown and I recently stopped by our neighborhood Large Stone Tablet store and purchased a couple of huge rocks upon which to inscribe these ten commandments.
Not really — we just blogged about them. Nonetheless, here are our Ten Commandments of QuiBids Social Media, complete with examples. Fear not, for names and profile pictures have been anonymized, to protect the innocent … and the guilty alike. Let’s get started.
1. Thou shalt refrain from typing in all caps…
BECAUSE IT MAKES IT LOOK LIKE YOU ARE SHOUTING AND NOBODY WANTS TO BE SHOUTED OUT AT WHEN THEY’RE READING THINGS ON THE INTERNET, RIGHT?
There’s really just nothing more obnoxious, isn’t there? Even when somebody has something supportive and useful to say, the outside-voices-used-inside effect tends to negate your interest in reading it.
2. Thou shall not curse, use foul language, or attack thy fellow QuiBidders.
This seems like as good a reason as any to post this particular YouTube video:
But no really guys, pottymouths aren’t cool. People come to QuiBids’ social media accounts for information about our service and to share with other customers, not to be harassed, harangued, and called names. That and it’s just plain rude.
3. Thou shalt always remember thine hashtags!
We’re always tweeting tips and opportunities for free bids at the QuiBids Twitter handle. Using hashtags in your reply is often required to qualify for our daily Twitter sweepstakes, so don’t forget them! Some of our common ones include #QuiBidsTips (though we’re thinking about changing this to #QTips —get it), #QuiBidsWins, #FREEBIDS, and just plain old #QuiBids (for Instagram).
4. Thou shalt not advertise for thine other entertainment retail auctions, nor for unrelated personal endeavors.
No offense Mr. Sliding Van Door Salesman, but people don’t come to QuiBids’ Facebook page to check out your inventory. So there’s no need to post about it!
5. Thou shalt help thy neighbors!
We do our best to respond to all Facebook posts and tweets we see that ask for help, but sometimes our own customers beat us to the punch! Thanks for being so astute, guys and gals!
6. Thou shalt read the QuiBids 101 Help pages and company blog before accusing QuiBids of being a scam.
Accusing QuiBids of being a scam is sort of like throwing pebbles at a building made of brick. It doesn’t do a whole heck of a lot. Just have a look through some of the testimonials on the QuiBids 101 page and see for yourself whether or not we’re a scam!
7. Thou shalt offer thine input!
We love love love to hear back from our customers about the QuiBids good, the QuiBids bad, and the QuiBids ugly. Our site was built for you to use easily and effectively, so we want to know what you think about it! Please comment on blog posts and on our Facebook page, tweet us your thoughts, share what we post up, and retweet away! We want our social media to work like a dialogue between our company and our customers.
8. Thou shalt sign up for our promotions!
We use our Facebook page for all sorts of promotions for you to win free bids and/or products! One of the most recent ones was the What Do You Do with Your QuiBids Wins video contest. We’ll announce who won the brand-new 32 GB iPad later this week!
9. Thou shalt not share information that maketh sense only to thyself.
We’ve definitely noticed a correlation between people who break commandment #2 and command #9. Also, the two are comparatively obnoxious. Let your SuperEagle fly elsewhere!
10. If thine issue cannot be resolved online via social media, then contacteth Customer Support.
It often tends to be much easier to work out most issues directly with a Customer Support representative, whether by email, chat, or an actual phone conversation. If a simple Facebook comment doesn’t solve your problem, you should probably reach out and contact Customer Support!
And for bonus, we’ve posted a guideline to the QuiBids Facebook page below, just in case you were curious as to what will and won’t be removed by our administrators. The following will most definitely be deleted:
Profane, defamatory, offensive or abusive/violent language
“Trolling”, or posting deliberately disruptive statements meant to hijack comment threads or throw discussions off-track
Attacks on specific groups or any comments meant to harass, threaten or abuse an individual
Discriminatory or disrespectful comments regarding race, ethnicity, religion, gender, disability, sexual orientation or political beliefs
Links or comments containing sexually explicit content material
Discussion of illegal activity (like drugs, violence, theft)
Spam, link baiting or files containing viruses that could damage the operation of other people’s computers or mobile devices
Commercial solicitations or promotion of a competitor
Content determined to be inappropriate, in poor taste, or otherwise contrary to the purposes of the QuiBids Community
Personal promotion

This photo is brought to you by laziness. I haven't been sleeping much, maybe three or four hours a night, for the last six days or so. Earlier in the week I was fortunate enough to attend two Under-17 World Cup matches.
