I have often wandered what sunset and sunrise looked like from within the Temple at Mussenden. It was Earl Bishops Library built right on the cliff tops with windows primed for those views. it must have been something to sit there and look out at the magnificient vista's from his no doubt highly decorated bureau...
The Trumpeter Swans have returned to winter here from their breeding grounds on the northern tundra.
While on a walk along the Pat Bay trail before midday, we counted over 130 birds. Busy as I was, I knew I had to make the concerted effort to come back at sunset, and sunrise. Such majestic birds, they are always a pleasure to see and watch.

I capelli.
A sera a me la barba
è diventata dura e nera,
i tuoi capelli di zucchero filato
invece non si sono mossi,
non li spettina il vento, chi sei?

This just has to be done! And the beauty of Snowdonia or any mountain terrain is you don't necessarily have to rely on epic sunsets and sunrises, none of which I got during my stay last week.
So this was an afternoon shot, really this was a recce visit, making sure I knew where it was, as I was holding out some hope for a sunrise the following day (our last morning).
When I first saw the tree side on, I was seriously underwhelmed. But when I came round the front of it, I could see why compositionally it is such a popular spot. The light was very flat and it was beginning to rain so we went for a coffee and returned just as the shower had stopped and some welcome light was hitting the mountains. I had the location to myself too!
The sunrise next morning.. I didn't even get my camera out of the bag.

I want a love that includes sunsets and sunrises, the kind that you're grateful for at the end of the day and wake up excited about. (j. iron word)

Passing through paradise.
One of the most amazing nights of the whole holiday was when we moved from south to north, in the afternoon we were in Jokulsarlon and sky was totally clear so we decided to move and spend the night on the road, and was a great idea.
We spent almost sunset and sunrise driving and shooting in Oxi pass that cuts Iceland from south to north, beautiful and spectacular gravelroad pass with slopes of 17% which fortunately our car has passed without problems.
This is one of the shots of this magnificent night.

I love sunsets and sunrises. The weather on Xmas day was exceptional in South Florida. This particular shot is a HDR composite taken approximately 20-25 minutes after the sun set below the horizon. The colors just kept getting brighter with every minute. Some of you may recognize the location. It is Everglades Holiday Park, home of the TV reality series on Animal Planet appropriately named "Gator Boys." For those wondering, the answer is "YES," a few of the critters were lurking close by, unnerving avid photographers. In reality, the mosquitoes were more pesky than the gators.
When I traveled to Central Oregon two weeks ago, it was raining hard, and I didn't visit one of my favorite lakes Sparks Lake. This time the weather was more cooperative, and I saw beautiful sunset and sunrise at Sparks lake. This is one of the pictures taken at the lake at sunrise.
That bigger mountain is the South Sister and the small mountain is Broken Top. This was taken just after sunrise.
Elk Lake is a natural body of water in the central Cascade Range. Nearly 4,900 feet (1,500 m) above sea level, the lake is part of a volcanic landscape about 25 miles (40 km) west-southwest of Bend along the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway. The lake is among the most popular of the Cascade Lakes. Its name stems from the large number of elk that formerly frequented the area in summer.
So many wonderful sunsets and sunrises lately - hard not to be compelled to photograph them, even if the scene is so similar to many previous images ...
Definitely not a dream! This is beautiful Oia in Santorini. This is possibly the most romantic and scenic of the Greek Isles on the Aegean Sea. Perched on the volcano caldera edges, Santorini will woo you with gorgeous sunsets and sunrises, colorful beaches, ancient Minoan ruins and plenty of romantic spots. Hope everyone makes it there! Be sure to spend more than one night if you can. You won't regret it!!!
Midnight sun at Vesterålen, Norway (at 00:11 am): time standing still in between sunset and sunrise ...
Taken in July 2011 on the spectacular voyage with Hurtigruten (the original coastal express of Norway) along the Norwegian coast ... the first and only kind of cruise we ever did.
I loved to sit on deck until well past midnight - enjoying the finally nice weather after days of rain, just watching the sea, the waves, the never quite setting midnight sun and the mountains "rising" from the sea ... serenity and very fond memories !
... how can you not stop here and take a quick snap while leaving the park after starting in the dark and taking sunrise captures in Arches National Park. I do wish I lived a lot closer to this park. Would visit many times as there are just so many locations you could be sunset and sunrise ... but when limited you must pick and choose.
Nevertheless, I had to pull over and take this capture because it is just SO impressive to see each time I am there.

Lake Pickthorne provides many opportunities for both sunset and sunrises. Long exposures from different lake locations bring a variety of images. I have produced calendars from this lake.
Mono Lake is a beautiful lake with these unusual rock formations called Tufa. Arrived South Tufa the day before in the afternoon to check the road for sunset and sunrise for next day. The only thing is that the road is partly unpaved, google might take you to the road that river flowing ahead, you had to turn back to 395 and took another one… When we finally arrived at the South Tufa in the afternoon, we were thrilled and surprised by the number and beauty of these incredible God made structures on the lake... There is an easy boardwalk trail down to the Lake. The views are magnificent and beautiful. This lake is often used as the face of 'wish you were here' postcard, and deservedly so.
Old, unique, and full of personality… The Tufas are otherworldly, but you need to search to find the best views. Here is the photo of blue hour before sunrise, probably before blue hour. Not so many people in the early morning. There was the windy warning that day around the region, not perfect reflection.

Wonderful Lofoten, this iconic shot was a must for me on the trip. Sadly we were not blessed with good light. But I think this is just as interesting shot as some of the classic sunsets and sunrises.
I like taking photos, the beauty of sunsets and sunrises, all the nature's details. As well - I like what's behind. Nature is a teacher and we may learn the lessons or not. In case we do - we face the new day being a bit different. Seeing the world with the different look, being different inside. That's what I also like as a man with the camera.
The picture from a wonderful location in my region. Local photographers' "must have" place to be in autumn.
Thank you for all the comments and faves, dear friends. Stay safe!

This is the second best spot in Utah. The first one , in my opinion, is The Wave! Nevertheless, I Loved Bryce, all the trails, hose back riding, sunsets and sunrises, and the lodge, of course. Spent there 5 days, and trust me it was not enough to see it all!!! Amazing place!

I feel a little guilty going out to photograph the unusual sunsets (and sunrises) since those folks in the western US are facing such hardships from the wildfires, but I did last evening. Just before packing up and heading home I made a few more quick shots including this one. I didn't even realize the deer was in the frame until looking them over on the computer screen later. Perhaps a fitting title for this would be "Dumb Luck."
The blue connection
The construction of the blue connection began in 2012 and continued until 2020.
It is a special connection between the South Park in Rotterdam , the landscape Buijtenland in Rhoon and Zuidpolder in Barendrecht , South Holland , the Netherlands .
It is a complete recreational navigable route to and at the same time functions as an ecological connection between the green areas in and around Rotterdam . The blue connection, also ensures clean water that comes from the Oude Maas and serves as a climate buffer .
A grand project , which is something different than the mega buildings major cities normally construct.
The blue connection is a recreational route for people with their canoes , small rowing boats and electric little boats and also is an attractive place for swimmers and fishermen. The shorelines are made as naturally as possible.
The plant and animal life to flourish will come through this connection. It's a matter of time before we can identify the beaver. There already live rabbits , bats , songbirds and waterfowl in the area. In addition to the herons , we can also find the spoonbill and they even hope that the bittern returns. Highland cattle is grazing in the Koedood , which is also a part of this structure .
The Pendrechtse Mill is a true photographic attraction in the Southern Border Park , the part of the connection between Rotterdam and Barendrecht . This is mainly because the sunset and sunrise, during a few weeks each year , are behind the mill
Areas to enjoy , photograph and just that piece of nature that we need in our overpopulated country.
Just back from a family break down in Cornwall and we were extremely lucky with the weather throughout our week.
I managed to get out on my own for a few sunsets and sunrises with them being at reasonable times and explore some of the sights of SW Cornwall.
This was an evening at Lands End, a place I've visited before, but I wanted a shot of the Enys Dodnan Arch. So I set off in strong winds along the cliffs to the East of Lands End and this was the scene just before sunset shot from the cliffs looking out past the arch to the rock outcrop called the "Armed Knight" and out further to the Longships Lighthouse.
I took numerous shots and decided to post the Long Exposure rendering the waves as smooth textures with the breaking waves creating a nice white border accentuating the sunlit cliffs.
We stayed at the quirky Num-Ti-Jah hotel at Bow Lake so that I could experience the sunset and sunrise at Bow Lake (Canadian Rockies). However, there was no colour for the sunset or sunrise but the sunrise light and reflection were beautiful.
A certain kind of light...I love sunsets and sunrises and clouds. Few tall buildings, a flat landscape and little pollution, gives us ample opportunity for pretty skies.
Beaches of the Central Coast #36 of #49.
Dragged myself out of bed at 430am this morning for a sunrise at Pebbly Beach. I use an app called Alpenglow which gives a simplified forecast for sunsets and sunrises at any given location. It just rates them graphically as poor, fair, good, great etc. It told me todays would be great. Alpenglow you owe me 3 hours sleep!! It was very cloudy and overcast pretty much the whole time, except this small moment when the sun came flooding through a break in the clouds and bathed the sand in gold. Made it the rip worth it. Well, it was worth it anyway, any sunrise is good no matter what the weather, and any beach is good , any time :)
Have a great weekend !
We all tend to love amazing sunsets and sunrises: Spectacular colors, mesmerizing cloud formations bursting into flames. But sometimes, you know, sometimes our inner center of tranquility longs for peaceful recreation. That is exactly what I felt, when I saw this gorgeous pastel sunrise during a cruise trip. The ship went just a few knots, the sea dabbled soothingly against the hull and besides of that there was silence. Clear, crisp silence. What a moment!
Shot handheld, the iso grained the image, but who cares? It's all about the feels.

Klare, frische Stille. Was für ein Moment!
Aus der Hand geschossen, das iso verkörnt das Bild, aber wen kümmerts? Es geht doch nur um Gefühle.
I first visited Monument Valley, the sacred land of the Diné in 2007.
Fifteen years later, I finally returned, and was amazed at how much the surroundings had changed.
The most visible one is the beautiful multi-million dollar hotel, The View, that was built a year after my first trip, and sits on the cliff overlooking the valley.
Over the years, I began seeing images of the valley from a different vantage point, one I didn't know about on my first trip, and soon became a bucket lister; Hunts Mesa.
It's a trip you can only take with a Navajo guide, and my buddy and I found one of, if not the best, on the Navajo Nation to the best to take us there, Harry Nez.
This 2.5 hour trek to a place which google maps says is only 5 miles as the crow flies, is definitely not one for someone who doesn't like EXTREME driving.
The ride is not something you can describe to do it justice; you just have to experience it on your own.
If you ask someone who's been there how the road is, the answer you're most likely to get is, "what road?"
A lot of websites say that you have to camp on the mesa overnight. That's not true, but if you do, you do get to catch sunset AND sunrise -- and have a steak dinner that smelled amazingly good.
I wish we could have caught the sunrise as well because I think the light then is really a lot more dramatic; building in intensity as the sun bathes the landscape in golden light.
That all said, though -- I'm glad I was able get there -- because it is DEFINITELY a once in a lifetime memory.
To Vo gate (The stone gate arch) on Ly Son Island, Quang Ngai Province, Vietnam.
It is considered as the landmark of Ly Son with the height of about 2.5 meters. It is explained that the To Vo gate was created by the extinct volcano million years ago because the lava from the vocano met the sea water and froze. This gate is a favorite place for seeing sunset and sunrise of travelers.
Kelly Hall Tarn, near Torver in the Lake District is a good location for both sunset and sunrise if the conditions are right. Like many spots in the Lake District though, it has not escaped the devastation caused by Storm Arwen. One of the bigger fir trees by the tarn shore has been ripped up by its roots and lies toppled on its side, changing the look just to the right of this lop sided pine tree.
I didn’t expect much of a sunset and nearly went back to the car and drove home after a long day walking up around Borrowdale and Buttermere. But like the ever optimistic fellow I am, I hung around hoping that the light and clouds would improve and around sunset it certainly did.
I liked the cloud reflections in the Tarn leading back to the tree in this shot.
