This sign at the entrance to the Homestead Extension of Florida's Turnpike indicates that motorists can pay tolls with either SunPass or TOLL-BY-PLATE.

This is how we shot the really cool "SunPass Swoosh" effect for one of our May Sweeps pieces called "The SunPass Revolution"

Here's how we did it:

1) We placed the SunPasses on a lighted turntable used to slowly spin a crystal cube we have on our entertainment center.

2) Brought the video into Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0

3) Sped it up by 20,500 times the original speed

4) Add sound effect and stir!

Since this is a highly promoted sweeps piece, it won't be posted online. The news managers want people to watch it only on TV.

Minneola, FL- FL Tpk NB Exit 278 Ramp where AET is used to collect tolls. Those without a Sunpass transponder are billed later in the mail as a camera photographs the vehicle's tag and sends the bill in the mail for the driver to pay. This structure spanning the two lane ramp is the designated tolling station with the equipment on it to electronically collect the tolls as the vehicle passes beneath it.

When you move to a new place, it doesn't take long to begin to associate something with that area - for me, in Central Florida, it's toll roads. Seems like they are on just about every major highway. I see why people are getting the SunPass!!

FL State Road 23 the "First Coast Expressway" is partially opened, and will be a TOLL road, but the tolls are not being collected at this time, hence why the "SUNPASS or Pay-By-Plate" section is covered.

Alligator Alley

Alligator Alley (also known as Everglades Parkway[2]) is a section of Interstate 75 (State Road 93) and State Road 84 extending from Naples on the west coast of Florida to Weston on the east. First opened in 1969,[3] most of the highway traverses the Everglades.

The name was given by the American Automobile Association during planning; they believed it would be a useless road, an alley for alligators. However, as alligators often frequent the waterways beside the road, and occasionally the road itself, the nickname has a somewhat literal meaning.

Currently, automobile drivers pay a $2.50 toll ($2.00 for SunPass users) both eastbound and westbound, and it is one of only three tolled sections of Interstate 75. There are two exits along the roadway, neither of which charge a toll to enter or exit the highway.

[edit]History

It was originally built as a two-lane tollway connecting the two coasts of Florida, as a part of State Road 84 (which is currently the hidden designation of the highway). After it was determined that I-75 was using this route for the Tampa-Miami extension instead of the Tamiami Trail in 1973, it was widened to four lanes between 1986 and 1992, with many bridges designed to let water and wildlife pass underneath.[4] This helped to reduce the environmental impact of the highway somewhat, especially upon the severely endangered Florida panther, as well as reducing the danger of the highway, which was notorious for high-speed accidents.

A state effort to privatize Alligator Alley failed in May 2009 when no bids were received for the highway that met the required terms.

Keep left for the SunPass lanes and keep right for cash lanes (called "Change Provided" lanes on the Florida Turnpike)

The other big project I undertook was a documentation of the 39th St. toll plaza of the Crosstown Expressway. Not only is this toll plaza gone now, the entire entrance/exit has been closed. It probably didn't have enough patronage to make building a SunPass gantry there to be monetarily feasible - or, maybe the land is needed for some part of the I4/Crosstown connector, which is currently under construction.

There's more pics - I just haven't edited them yet. Soon!

This is the closest Tampa gets to a two-level freeway. The elevated portion is one lane and is a one-way route either into or out of Downtown Tampa depending on the time. It's only accessible to those that have a SunPass. I still haven't tried it out.

The elevated part started to collapse when it was being constructed. I think they miscalculated and didn't bury the pylons deep enough or something.

www.FloridasTurnpike.com Tolling on Florida's Turnpike in Miami has gone all-electronic. The cash lanes have gone away and everyone pays tolls without stopping, with either SunPass or TOLL-BY-PLATE.

Hi Guys

I spent from 3.15pm to 4.35pm at DSM on Wednesday so 1.20 hrs volunteer time plus 40 mins admin etc ( nice round 2 hours)It was not the most perfect day with a strong NW breeze and the sunpassing in and out of cloud.

Nothing serious to report but the following general comments might help.

Lots of patches of bramble etc need tidying up where the scrub is encroaching in various entries.

Some more of the willows may need pollarding to avoid splitting.

The cattle are still there. The water bowser in good shape.

A lot of the Meadow Sweet has been given a good battering by the 3 bullocks.

The usual flora has also been decimated and the invertebrate

population is probably down though the have left nice stands of Creeping Thistle in places. I take it that the early placing of cattle was planned and the intention was to give the vegetation a good long bashing?

Still no bees nest in the old ash.

Big Oak branch down at far end over the stream fence but the latter seems to be secure still.

At the other end of the reserve at the narrow strip entrance the big willow is leaning hard against the boundary fence.

The garage downs for burning need replacing and the old ones removed.

Saw a nice selection of butterflies and a Chrysotoxum veralli.

The adjoing field, currently down to grass, appears to be empty. No news on the waste pit. The big pile of old timbers from the old boardwalk remain nearby?

Some snaps attached fyi and also see www.flickr.com/photos/pitzys_pyx/

Also visited in June but report not completed yet but will follow soon for record. Hope you are all OK. My eyesight and a few other things have kept me out of circulation this year.

Best wishes

I-95 north. I was leaving work one weekend and a huge group of bikers and quad runners suddenly hit the highway, most of the group hung back and kept the traffic slowed down while a few in the front rode wheelies for MILES!!! I was in the sunpass lane (prepaid tolls) and was able to catch up...Ive seen much crazier shit (regarding bikers) at night too..even a dude standing on his seat and hauling ass... welcome to the Miami highway..

A new SunPass-only ramp opened in June 2014 for southbound Turnpike motorists headed west on Hollywood/Pines Boulevard.

Only Free Highway in Orlando.

Out the seat, reach for your belongings, and waddle across the aisle. Stagger up the jet bridge, wander past the other gates, shuffle towards the escalators (and admire Clyde Butcher's works, perhaps?), and trundle towards the luggage carousels. Wait, and choose; then lift and drag it towards the elevators. Put it all away, fire up your engine, reach for your parking slip, and...
