These white-tailed does were keeping an eye on me as I scattered seed and corn for some turkeys. I'm sure they were just waiting for me to leave so that they could join the turkeys in the driveway. Note how well camouflaged the deer are, almost blending in with the trees in this sunny (and snowy) scene.

It is always such a pleasure to be able to escape the city within a short time up to the wonderland of snowy mountains in the Black Forest.

At first I admire always the wonderful old Beech trees if I am on the Schauinsland mountain(elevation 1,284 m - resp. 4,213 ft).

They look so different every time - sometimes a heavy load of snow paints soft lines - another time the snow was melting a bit during the days (often 0 + 2 C around noon ). Than cold nights (-7 to -10 C) add a real icy look, like in this image.

We didn't have much snow there since the beginning of January lately but finally winter has arrived in the mountains. The season has changed.

Gritstone rock formations lit by the setting sun at Brimham Rocks, Brimham Moor, Nidderdale AONB, North Yorkshire, England.

Here’s another pre-lockdown shot from a landscape shoot at Brimham Rocks in the lovely Nidderdale AONB in February this year.

It was a lovely sunny evening and the rocks looked great as the sun was setting. Can’t wait for my next trip on the 24 bus up into Nidderdale!

A beautiful sunny day. We ventured over to a local pond.

Welcome to the New Year! Wanted to start off with something fun and upbeat.

On the last weekend of the year we ventured out to a nearby arboretum for a change of scenery. It was a wonderful, sunny winter's day. And as you can see the ducks and geese also seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Still wanting to stay safe, our visit was brief and we were masked up just in case. Although the area around the lake is a bit more overrun than usual, hopefully the folks who maintain the area will be able to spruce it back up.

Wishing everyone a Safe and Happy New Year.

On a beautiful sunny day at airfield Jena-Schöngleina (EDBJ).

Eiger North face, Monch (monk) and Jungfrau (virgin) - view from Beatenberg. The peak on the left was a popular suicide location for Bavarian kids in the 1930ies. The Suisse authorities forbid access. That did not help much

The colors never fade.

Wow, I really missed the sun. While this year’s long, dark, snowy and blue winter had some really GREAT moments, I’m glad it’s behind us.

* A powder snow fell this morning, wonderful view. Then came the sun.

* Þorri is the Old Norse name for Midwinter, which is usually the coldest of the Wintermonths, which in Iceland includes approx. the months of October - April (middle of April). Around April 20th, "Sumardagurinn fyrsti" -- literally "The first day of summer -- is celebrated. Some rather lonely snow flakes may fly around then, which makes it all the more cute! But the interesting about this day of celebration is that it is originally a more than 1000-year old Viking tradition.

As for the word "Þorri" -- Maybe you know that the Icelandic language is, relatively speaking, a very well preserved language with strong roots in its origins in the Nordic Viking culture. As such it is probably the best preserved language in Europe, at least.

Just a plain selfie (with heart shades) for today. Happy Pink Tuesday :-)

About this Photo: Taken in January 2009 in the Mayfield Village Wetland near our house. The simplicity of this plant half-buried in the snow struck me as a metaphor for keeping life simple. I was impressed by the plant's shadows, which represent how each of our lives impacts others and vice versa.
