Sundeck over the water with sun lounge chairs and umbrellas set up in Sorrento, Italy. (pre-covid, 2019)
That’s the Mississippi River behind the place. This area of Saint Louis, MO. USA is called Laclede’s Landing.
This is a quick snapshot of Fynn sitting on the sundeck of Cleo's cat house on the porch. As the cat house doesn't have a heating, Cleo won't use it any time soon. The sundeck offers a nice view over the neighbouring gardens which Fynn often enjoys.
Fynn is doing okay although it has been quite difficult to feed him over the weekend as eating is painful for him. The vet thinks that it's because of his cat flu related gingivitis and tongue ulcers but I think that there is another problem. We have a vet appointment anyway on Monday morning and I will ask the vet to consider an x-ray to see if there is a problem with his teeth.
This landing platform must have diplomatic status, the breeze proudly displaying the international flags.Certainly an attractive sundeck in an envious position. Lake Annecy ,Rhone Alps region of France.

Cooper's Hawk. Best Viewed Large On Black Sitting on my sundeck rail checking out the small birds in my yard. They are increasingly seen hunting smaller songbirds in backyards with feeders. They will perch in trees overlooking the feeders, then swoop down and scatter the other birds in order to capture one in flight. IMG_9757

October 1998. I visited my friend Pam in Vancouver. A colony of Yellow Jackets had built their nest outside the sliding glass doors that opened onto the sundeck of her condo. What a structure! It was enormous, at least 15-20 inches in diameter, its paper surface an intricately patterned maze of whorls and flow lines.
I set up my tripod with the 105mm macro lens. Fall is the season when most wasp stings occur, because the young, fertilized queens abandon the colony around this time and fly off to mate and then find a protected place to spend the winter. While the social order begins to break down - no more young to feed, no purpose - food sources become scarce. None of the workers, nor the old queen, will survive winter. They are easily agitated at this time of year; don't mess with them.
For some reason, I wasn't stung. I moved slowly but worked fast. Wasps create the "paper" for their nests by chewing plant fibres and mixing them with their saliva, and it was obvious that the materials for their nest came from many different sources. The wood rail on Pam's deck showed long scrape marks about the width of a wasp's mandibles. Functionality aside, I thought their nest was one of the most beautiful natural objects I had ever seen.
Photographed in Vancouver, BC, on Fujichrome Provia 100; scanned from the original slide. The nest was in deep shade, so exposure was approximately 8 seconds at f/22-32 (with lots of bracketing). Sunset from a cruiseferry leaving Stockholm for Finland. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic I was not able to leave the ship, but I did get to spend time with my literature in the sun.
- for social distancing, nowadays :( Socialising, entertaining friends and having parties will, hopefully be back on the agenda. One day...

Our visit to the Walhalla took place first thing in the morning. This series of photos was taken from the sundeck of our boat as we travelled out of Regensburg in the late afternoon and early evening. Our speed was about ten miles per hour throughout the entire journey, so we had ample time to enjoy the river sights
The Walhalla temple, commissioned by Ludwig I of Bavaria in 1816 and completed in 1842 commemorates great figures from German history. On its inauguration on 18 October 1842, there were 96 busts and 64 plaques. 30 busts were added since, most recently a bust of Sophie Scholl on 22 February 2003.

The Ski Jump is a concise piece of functional design, an instrument for high performance sport, shaped with mathematical precision. The challenge here was to integrate a new, initially alien element into a given formula: The cafe and Sundeck. The assemblage of elements was resolved in the manner of nature, developing a seamless hybrid, where parts are smoothly articulated and fused into an organic unity. The result is a rather unusual silhouette on Bergisel.

A gharial (Gavialis gangeticus) displaying an impressive set of teeth at Prague Zoo plus a turtle of some kind using it as a sundeck.
Prague Zoo was a pleasant experience, well worth the visit.
One of the first photos I took with my new Nikon D5000. I captured this sunrise view on my way back to Finland from a trip in Estonia.
For being one of my first photos it's surprisingly good in my opinion.
