(to my surprise) This made Explore for June 16. Always an honor!

It took us almost half the day to find this road again. That's what we did last Sunday. It's the same terrorizing road we went down almost two years ago but that was in the fog, nearly dark and in the fall. To see it now you would never guess it could be a scary place to be! But seriously, who wouldn't want to travel down this gravel road all dappled with sunlight and filled with birdsong. It's quiet, it's peaceful and we rarely meet up with another vehicle! Drive time is about two hours and the road goes in and out of Virginia and West Virginia. The sad thing about our adventures is that in the past couple of years we have traveled almost all the roads within a one day drive time. The funny thing is we ask each other, Have we been down this road before? And if the answer is no we are bound to come up on a barn, a house or tree, or whatever that we know for sure we Have seen before!! Sometimes though if we are going the opposite direction on that same road, it seems very much like a new road to us. See a photo of this same road, two years ago in first comment box below. So here's to sun dappled, single lane, gravel roads in everyone's future! :)

A break in the weather saw us out and about and an opportunity to take a stroll around the litte gem of the Glencoe Lochan.

Dappled light adds drama to the hills which flank Glen Etive near Glencoe in the Scottish Highlands.

I wondered about Photoshopping the ball out of the stream and don't have an explanation for why I left it. It is nicely placed if irrelevant.

At the quiet rim of a sun-dappled pool, a baby robin, all downy fluff and wide-eyed wonder, perches on a moss-clad stone. The world is waking with the gentle chorus of morning, yet the bird’s heart beats with a secret anticipation, as if sensing that something .extraordinary lies within the ordinary.

Whilst walking through the ravine part of Pucks Glen is definitely a highlight, walking along the track at the top of the glen also has its highlights.

The mobility scooter is a lovely shade of red so it was a bit of a struggle for me decide whether to leave the photo in colour or to convert to B&W but now that I've done it I think the overall photo looks much better in B&W. It was a gorgeous early evening and I loved the way the dappled sun played out on the scene.

I may be a bit slow in responding to any comments that might come my way as I've been unwell since last weekend and I'm still not up to par.

I hope you all have wonderful weekends.

Not all those who wander are lost. J.R.R. Tolkien

Wandering through this quiet forest, one is enveloped by the warmth of golden light filtering through tall, slender trees. The narrow path invites you deeper into the tranquil woods, lined with rich green undergrowth.

There's a timeless quality to the moment, amplified by the soft hues, sunset light and spectral memories of Spring time that will never be the same again...

Here, nature speaks in hushed tones, offering peace to wandering souls and a sense of gentle curiosity to those who walk this serene trail.

David Tolk - Seasons

Coming back down through the forest after a hillwalk I saw the dark woodland suddenly lit up by the setting sun. By the time I got the camera and tripod set up the clouds had obscured the sun and the beautiful light disappear. However I waited patiently for the sun to re-appear and I finally go my shot,

A beck in England is a brook, I learned. Here's a little beck, shaded by trees, with bluebells, ferns and grasses along the bank. From a friend's photo, hand - painted and then given three different effects.

Have a good weekend. I'm trying to finish reading The Thousand Splendid Suns. I know i'm late, but The Kite Runner left me so anguished that i didn't have the guts to read it until now. This one is equally painful and captivating.

Beartooth Basin is high atop Beartooth Pass (over 10,000 feet in elevation) and among the only summer ski areas in North America (approximately May through early July, depending upon when the snow is cleared from the Beartooth Highway). Chain Pond is at the lower left, the headwaters for Chain Creek, flowing down into Chain Lake (Twin Lakes on some maps, so I'm unsure which is now correct), then the creek drops off into Rock Creek Canyon in the background, ulimately making its way toward Red Lodge, Montana.

This was the first of two trips over Beartooth Pass back in September and I arrived at the summit in temps not far above freezing after shooting in fog and rain at the lower elevations along the north side of the Beartooth range. Views here are simply amazing and it is a challenge to get a sense of scale even when standing before many of these sights. I'm hopeful to return here at some point in spring after the highway is reopened (it is closed due to snow for several months every winter), for I've yet to shoot the region during the spring runoff.
