Australia's most haunted beach on a beautiful spring day. If I were a ghost, this is the sort of place I'd hang around, not some foggy dreary old place, it's boo-tiful!. I mean ghosts should be able to have fun and enjoy themselves too hey. They would probably be good at surfing and scuba diving and stuff because they can hold their breathe a long time, like forever. And they would never need to worry about suncream because they can't get sunburnt. I think I've just got my afterlife sorted!

A truly incredible end to the August Bank Holiday weekend last year, when I was contacted by a News Agency regarding my Photographs of deer bathing in a pond in Richmond Park during the record breaking heatwave.
I went to bed that night knowing that one of my pictures had made the Daily Mail Online.....Then in the morning I woke up to the news that not only had I been featured on page 11 of the Mail, but had also made the front page of The Times (Tuesday August 27 2019, thetimes.co.uk No 72936) it was this particular image that made the feature image on page 11 of the Mail.
In addition my Photograph even got a mention on BBC Breakfast that morning.....Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined this, it’s funny to think I’d never picked up a camera prior to 25 months ago.....Dreams Really Do Come True!

It's pretty common to see Thai people at the beach holding umbrellas. Actually quite a good idea and probably more comfortable than slopping on heaps of suncream

Almost catching me unawares is the 30 minutes early running 13.05 Dowlow Briggs - Ashburys (6H52) loaded limestone, pictured here passing the long-disused Buxton Quarry in the steady hands of DBS Shed 66197.
At this point the train is running along the only surviving stretch of the old Cromford and High Peak Railway. The route was completed in 1831 to carry minerals and raw cotton amongst other things over the Pennines between the Cromford Canal and the Peak Forest Canal at Whaley bridge, so allowing for more speedy and direct transportation links between Manchester and the East Midlands.
Intriguingly the line only closed in the 1960s on the back of the Beeching Cuts and, for many months, one of the old LMS / Kitson Dock 0-4-0ST locos that worked it, 47000, could be seen stored out of use on the curve at Derby. Sadly I never saw the line in operation but did get to visit it shortly after closure and remember walking up the still in-situ trackbed on the 1-in-14 Hopton Incline.
Since closure the section of route that lies in the Peak District has been transformed into a cycle path with occasional refreshment and pub stops along the way. Still retaining a sense of remoteness it makes a great, if energetic, day out.
It was quite a pleasant (and slightly energetic) day on this occasion too - almost requiring the suncream.....

Another take from our day at the beach last weekend. This is the view facing the cliffs at the southern end of Ness cove beach. I managed to get a sunburn on my feet with the pattern of my sandals still visible today...don't forget your feet when applying suncream folks!

We, Number One Son and myself, spent Whit week in the Lakes. The weather was wonderful, with shorts, suncream and ice-cream being the order of the day.
After arriving Thursday evening before the bank holiday week-end we had a quick jaunt on Barrow, above Braithwaite to limber up for greater things ahead!

The climb up to Scarth Gap was tiring. It was the hottest day of the week, and I'd loaded my rucksack with warm clothes assuming it would be cold later on, and my tripod as well. For the first time we weren't wearing shorts and having set off at 3.30pm thought we could do without suncream!! Not sure what the jamboree was taking place on the far side of the lake, but a helicopter landed there whilst we were on the initial part of this climb
For our final walk we decided to stay out on the tops for sunset (9.40pm) so after a late large breakfast in Keswick set off to park half way up the Honister Pass by Gatescarthdale Beck. Our plan was to do a horseshoe walk around Warnscale Bottom, over Haystacks finishing on Fleetwith Pike. Slightly concerned about getting back to the car after sunset we planned to walk back across the easy top of Fleetwith to pick up the easy quarry road down to Honister Hause, then back down the road to the car.
It is now full summer here in Australia, so Safety (this week's Macro Mondays challenge) takes the form of swimming goggles for eye protection and some powerful sunblock.
