The Monastery of Varlaam is the second largest monastery in the Meteora complex, and in 2015 had the largest number of monks (seven) of the monasteries for men. It was built in 1541 and embellished in 1548.

The Monastery of St. Stephen has a small church built in the sixteenth century and decorated in 1545. This monastery rests on the plain rather than on a cliff. It was shelled by the Nazis during World War II who believed it was harboring insurgents, after which it was abandoned. The monastery was given over to nuns in 1961 and they have reconstructed it into a flourishing nunnery, with 28 nuns in residence in 2015.

These past almost 30 days have been crazy busy with work for me, which is why I haven't been able to neither post any pictures or nor comment regularly on my flickr fiends photos. But I am still here and I will eventually make a more dynamic come back I feel. Tomorrow it's Thanksgiving and I will say that I am thankful for things that happened over the past year. Among these, the fact that I was able to travel back to Greece, get to see family and friends and finally visit a place I have never been before, Serifos, and enjoy some wonderful views like this one from there. We are almost halfway through April and I feel summer is not too far. It is going to be an interesting summer after last year when the whole world had to go through lockdowns and traveling was affected by the pandemic. Hopefully this upcoming summer things will be looking more like pre-pandemic, a certain leve of norm will have been reestablished. So maybe more people will be able to go to vacations and visit places that they missed. I would certainly want to go back to Tinos and to Pyrgos as this beautiful village is full of colorful and bright surprises on almost every corner.
