Brown Headed Cowbird enjoying the morning sunshine. The Brown-headed Cowbird is a stocky blackbird with a fascinating approach to raising its young. Females forgo building nests and instead put all their energy into producing eggs, sometimes more than three dozen a summer. These they lay in the nests of other birds, abandoning their young to foster parents. Thought this was an interesting fact. - Molothrus ater

The Ringlet is a member of the Satyr family, which includes a lot of my favourite finds in forests and meadows, like the Wood-Nymph and Northern Pearly-eye. This is a bit later than I typically see this species; they are one of the early summer highlights.
One of the reasons this species is fun to photograph is their habit of seeking mates along the top of the grass line. This means they are typically in the light and on interesting perches. They do head for nectar and wildflowers, but the range of places they land makes for some different options: here, the butterfly is perched on the side of a leaf, and backlit.
This species typically has one ‘eye ring’ on the underside of the top wing, but as is the case here, they are variable. Other members of the Satyr family have many such rings.

The cascade of petals on this begonia tucked into a shadowy corner drew me in.
There's a small cobblestone lane near the schloss that leads to our favorite Indian restaurant and one of the residents on that lane has transformed the front of their building into a container garden extraordinaire. Every time we would walk past it on our way to dinner, I would say I wish I had my camera. I finally made a special trip with my camera and this is one of several wonderful blooms from that garden.

Sheep grazing near the pathway and not too far from the Estuary.
In the area of Talsarnau and Ynys.
A fabulous tidal walk across the Dwyryd Estuary to reach this island that sits in the shadows of the mountains of Snowdonia and the spires of the Italianate village of Portmeirion. The walk crosses beautiful salt marsh and expansive tidal sands for the ultimate in wild swim in the sun-warmed pools. It is also possible to explore the beautiful foreshore of Ynys Gifftan. It is a great place to explore if you are walking the Wales Coast Path between Porthmadog and Harlech
