This 2 tier cake was a bit of a rush job......
infact, this is a cake I made for our 8th Wedding Anniversary.
With the cakes I make for clients there is always planning involved,
but when it comes to making one for ourselves
it's usually a just few cupcakes as I have left it too late
or a very small cake.
This time I wanted a two tier and quickly made the vanilla sponges.
I mixed up this gorgeous pale duck egg blue coloured sugarpaste
(which the colour doesn't look true in this photo)
which I adore!!!
I hadn't a clue how to decorate it so I piped some royal icing pearls
at the base of each tier and placed an Ivory sugar bloom ontop......
I still wasn't happy with it, so I went and had a good
sort through my sugarcraft kit/tools drawers
and pulled out the dragonfly mould
..............perfect!
So I have a cake I would like,
I didn't want to make one in the style my husband would want
as it would probably have footballs all over it!!! lol!
..........
My Husband named this cake "Nicola" as
it's for our anniversary he thought it made sense!
.....
Cake size is
Top tier 5"
Bottom tier 8"
Inspired of the wonderful, blooming magnolia in my garden, I made this branch. Flowers, buds and leaves out of gumpaste.
This is a gift we had from our friends Jan and Alan when we met up for a weekend away over the weekend. Jan does Sugar crafting and cake baking as a hobby but bakes to professional standards. It was totally unexpected and to think they brought a heavy fruit cake all the way by train makes it extra special. I've already had a taste of it after my smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and prossecco brunch earlier here at home and can truly say that Mrs. C bakes extraordinarily good cakes. Sugar paste Flower detail in comments and my own commenting will resume asap I can.
Using a mold from first impressions. Start with a 50/50 mixture of gumpaste & fondant. (You can go all the way to 100% with the gumpaste but the other way with more fondant makes things harder.

1. Roll out some sugarpaste and cut them using three sizes of daisy cutters.
2. Cut out two sizes of large, two medium and three small daisies.
3 With a ball tool, gently draw each petals from the centre out to the tip to lengthen and widen.
4 Gently curl out from the tip in towards the centre to cup the end.
5 Petals are ready to be arranged.
6. Arrange the petals according to the sizes from large to small in a pallete.
7. Cup the ends more, to create a tighter array that hides the centre of the flowers.
I hope the tutorial and the instruction would benefit you . all the best everyone..:)
I made this cake for Matteo, the son of one of my best friends. He didn't have any idea for his cake, but her mother suggests me to do something with books. II thought that only books would too serious and I found this idea of a fairytale book and magic potion. I had a lots o fun making this cake and I'm very happy how it turned out. I was very exciting to make my first dragon, it was not as difficult as I thought. The cake was a chocolate cake with chocolate cream cheese frosting (I do love love this new recipe I tried for the first time!! So yummy!). The board was 45 cmx35 cm (14"x 18"), the book cake 32 cm X 20,5 cm (13"x 8"), the dragon was about 22 cm (9") long.
My daughter made these sugar paste roses for the top of our Ruby wedding cake, they have kept rather well, I popped them into this little souvenir pot for safe keeping and now they are firmly welded to it and won't come out.
This was a gift for the nursery my son attends for the end of term. I saw a pic of a simular cake by a member of the BSGUK message board, it totally inspired me and I immediately knew I had to adapt and make it for the nursery - it was a perfect design for the 'occasion'. I absolutely loved making this and every time I look at the pic, it puts a smile on my face.
Vanilla HD Sponge filled with Vanilla Buttercream and Raspberry Jam.
All edible! Each chess piece was handmade, individually moulded using sugarpaste icing. They are moveable therefore it was possible to play a game of chess. It took about 2 months to make all the pieces.
This cake won third prize in the Royal Adelaide Show.

I love pastels and have been keen to use them again. I wanted the secondary theme of the cake to be circles and rings so stylised ranunculi seemed to fit the bill. By the way, the top bands look a bit yellow on my computer but they are actually a pale pistachio green.
See it up close on my website.
Thanks to joojoo for the inspiration. Modelled from sugar paste with sugar lilies in the background.
