This pic is for my sister in law. Today, Christmasday, at approx. 14.00 hours her father passed away. Christmas will never be the same again.
On December 21 he had a stupid little accident in the house, where most accidents happen: he fell down the last step of the stairs, and broke his hip. That evening he was operated on and received a new hip. The operation was succesfull, and he came out of the anesthetic allright. But then his sugarlevels (he has been a diabetic for many, many years) started to rise, and rise. And he needed new blood. His kidneys started to give problems......
His body simply stopped functioning.
We are so grateful that my sister in law, my brother and their children made it to the hospital just in time to say goodbye.

Blood is placed onto the strip and it is drawn into the monitor. To get blood you have to prick your finger, which is better than fingering your pri... :-)
Nothing like seeing a number, GASPING, and then realizing you forgot to take your 2 meds - 1 that produces insulin and 1 that lowers sugar - OOPS. FAIL. Bad Diabetic!!!
On a side note, these are my new favorite snack. Just half of the bar is VERY filling and only 6 carbs, 4 sugars and has 3.5 grams of protein! Even if you want the entire bar (which I can't eat - way too heavy), it is a good diabetic snack!
A bit high, but after a carb heavy meal of hummus, crackers, and part of a banana, I'm okay with it. I'm drinking a ton of water and it will be back to normal in the a.m. I'm sure.
