Another Bill Henson influence. Pyramids and suburbia? Check out the way he weaves images from Egypt into a photo essay about suburbia. Bill Henson's forte is underexposure.

This is why I love powerlines. They can tell a story and balance a composition. And frankly I'm tired of prettiness.
I was just cutting through this street near Elland road football stadium and really liked how the sky looked so stopped to take a photo
As the sun goes down on one of Launceston's northern suburbs the day of work is done and a night of dreaming begins. Sometimes instigated by the television, but always welcomed in sleep. Unless it's a nightmare.
I was fascinated in this shot to see the continuum of colour that exists from within this room to the sky outside.
I have no qualms in stating that my inspiration in this series was the Australian photographer Bill Henson's wonderful exhibition and book, "The light fades but the gods remain". www.roslynoxley9.com.au/exhibition/the-light-fades-but-th...
Mass weeds growing on the footpath side of a suburban garden fence. I sat on the footpath to shoot this, and got tooted by a passing car.
After taking this photograph a representative of this company who had seen me on their surveillance camera, rushed out to tell me I could not take photographs of their property without seeking written permission from their national headquarters.
This light was too good to pass up and I insisted that I had done nothing wrong as I was standing in a public place (the footpath) and not on their property. And if they chose to continue with their absurd request that I desist from photographing them: (1) They must have something to hide, and (2) I would not use their services in future. I got the photo.
We must not allow our freedoms to be eroded by giving in to these corporate demands! Right now, all over the world, we are in a war for personal liberty. We did not ask for the totalitarian dystopic surveillance society we are getting.
The actual takeaway franchise here is irrelevant. What is more important is the way they dominate the suburban landscape. It has been shown that the more affluent the suburb, the fewer of these outlets.

The winter sun is going down on Mowbray Hill as people think of their evening meal.
[You need to enlarge this to pick up the elements in the frame.]
We had a beautiful sunset this evening. This was a quick photo taken from my back door with my 180 mm macro lens which was on the camera at the time.
We often get beautiful sunsets, but it is hard to take photos through all the houses and trees, but I like the palm tree silhouette in this one.

After showing you the complete slideshow with music, we will at some point return to a few of my personal favourite shots, or those that some of you have highlighted. But for today I'll post the first and last photographs in the series. Both these shots were taken together.
This crescent moon in the clouds inspired the final link in the puzzle for me, and led me to Coldplay's "Coloratura". This song became the backbone for structuring this slideshow. So Photograph 01 begins here:
“Coloratura, we fell in through the clouds, and everyone before us is there, welcoming us now. It’s the end of death and doubt, and loneliness is out.”
* Hilarious that this photo was rejected by a group called "Sunset Light". What else is it? If they want landscapes they should call themselves a landscape group!
I know Wilson, the Siamese (see below in comments). And we are accustomed to seeing this particular black cat in the neighborhood. I had never seen the two cats interacting, however, before today; they seemed to enjoy each other's company.
"chiaroscuro"
noun
the treatment of light and shade in drawing and painting.
an effect of contrasted light and shadow.
plural noun: chiaroscuros
"the chiaroscuro of cobbled streets"
This time of the day provides plenty of opportunity to play around with contrast. The light here is more pronounced because of the dark shadows.
(Explore, in/out 11/8/13) (story book mix) impressions of the Moorooka moon from my back porch.
