Hooded Merganser pair (a.k.a. Lophodytes cucullatus) - Blackpoint Drive, Black's Point, Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, Titusville, Florida
This capture a ways out on one of the larger ponds on Black's Point, and I took full advantage of all 600mm & multitudinous megapixels on the α1.
Among the three earliest mosques in Islamic history, along with Quba Mosque and Masjid Al-Nabwi SAW, Qiblatain Mosque (المسجد القبلتین) is historically important for Muslims as the place where, after the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) received the command to change the direction of prayer (qibla) from Jerusalem to Mecca. The entire congregation changed direction in prayer, thus it uniquely contained two prayer niches (mihrabs). Recently the mosque was renovated; the old prayer niche facing Jerusalem was removed, and the one facing Mecca was left.
This ice-encrusted car appears to have surrendered to last night's freezing rain. A neighbor paused from shoveling ice from his driveway to declare "I will be SO glad when Spring comes." Other neighbors just keep shoveling and say "Well, this IS Canada."

Antares is an other-wordly unique couture dress design by Nando Korobase of Angel Dessous... The name "antares" was my inspiration for this photo.. which refers to a red binary star that is often mistaken for Mars in the night sky due to it's bright red coloring. It was often used in the rituals of the ancient Egyptians. I wanted to give Rissa a fantastical photo, with a celestial feel and yet touch of ancient Egypt. This is her formal submission for the Angel Dessous Contest.

Along with my son, Justin, I joined Mike Greening (Ring of Fire Hot Sauce1) and his wife Diane at Disneyland this week to sit in front of the Castle for a couple hours and wait for the fireworks...Originally we had setup under the Partners statue, but were moved by CMs due to special queuing for VIPs. We ended up here, directly in front of the compass rose in the front row with our giant tripods taking center stage.
I decided to go wide angle at the last minute because the rose looked so cool, that I wanted to use it as a foreground element. Reviewing our shots after the show, I was really happy with what I saw on my 3" LCD, in particular how the lights and fireworks were reflected in the brasswork of the compass rose. When I got home, I realized what a mistake it was to use a UWA for shooting the fireworks, as the actual pyrotechnics are reduced in size compared to what they really were...nevertheless, I did get some nice shots, including this one of the lazer show during the Star Wars sequence. This is my first "Fireworks Friday" submission. I am looking forward to trying this again soon!
This is from a single RAW image exported 3 times from Lightroom using 3 different exposure compensations. The 3 images were merged and tonemapped in Photomatix, them adjusted in Photoshop along with the original image used to mask-in various elements for lighting and detail and noise control.

I have asked people to shoot a portrait against a plain background and then I will try and project my own vision creating a new piece of artwork.
This is the start of an ongoing project - because lets face it we were all getting fed up of seeing my face.

Eid al-Adha ("festival of sacrifice"), also called Feast of the Sacrifice, the Major Festival, theGreater Eid is an important 3-day religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide to honour the willingness of the prophet ʾIbrāhīm (Abraham) to sacrifice his young first-born son Ismā'īl (Ishmael) as an act of submission to God's command and his son's acceptance to being sacrificed, before God intervened to provide Abraham with a ram to sacrifice instead.
Eid al-Adha is the latter of the two Eid holidays, the former being Eid al-Fitr. The basis for the Eid al-Adha comes from the 196th verse of the 2nd sura of the Quran. The word "Eid" appears once in the 5th sura of the Quran, with the meaning "solemn festival".[5] The 3 days and 2 nights of Eid al-Adha are celebrated annually on the 10th, 11th and 12th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the twelfth and last month of the lunar Islamic calendar. In the international Gregorian calendar, the dates vary from year to year, drifting approximately 11 days earlier each year.
Like Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha begins with a Sunnah prayer of two rakats followed by a sermon (khuṭbah). Eid al-Adha celebrations start after the descent of the Hajj from Mount Arafat, a hill east of Mecca. Ritual observance of the holiday lasts until sunset of the 12th day of Dhu al-Hijjah. Eid sacrifice may take place until sunset on the 13th day. The days of Eid have been singled out in the Hadith as "days of remembrance". The days of Tashriq are from the Fajr of the 9th of Dhul Hijjah up to the Asr of the 13th of Dhul Hijjah (5 days and 4 nights).
