Stuttgart's coat of arms shows a black horse on its hind legs on a yellow background. It was first used in its current format in 1938; prior to this various designs and colours had been used, often with two horses. The canting seal pictured here reflects the origin of the name "Stuttgart". The name in Old High German was "stuotgarten", with "stuot" meaning mare, later cognate with the Old English term "stod" (Modern English: "stud", relating to the breeding of horses). The Old High German term "garten" referred to the compound on the site of the original settlement.The logo of the Porsche automobile company features a modified version of Stuttgart's coat of arms at its centre.

Werbung für die neue 'The Länd'-Kampagne, die ausländische Fachkräfte nach Stuttgart locken soll. Ich als Englisch-Mutttersprachler kann nur den Kopf darüber schütteln - es ist wirklich keinen Ersatz für das viel selbstbewusstere 'Wir können alles ausser Hochdeutsch'. Aber das Riesenrad an sich ist auch ein Spektakel, das man nicht verpassen soll, vor allem in diesen düsteren, dunklen, vorweihnachtlichen Coronazeiten...

Big wheel set up in front of the Neue Schloss castle in the centre of Stuttgart. Ostensibly a vehicle to promote Baden-Wuerttemberg's rather clunky new advertising campaign to attract skilled foreign workers to come here, and quite a sight in its own right.
