I wish everyone a happy and especially peaceful Christmas.
This is a time of unrest. I think it can not harm anyone at all once and to really think about their own deeds. Whether these are still obscure or have something to do with faith in themselves, or rather, hate and stupidity one Decisive role in the process.

Remember those overcast shots from last weekend...This was earlier in the day! Found this neat little spot along the river, the colours were utterly spectacular. Really not sure if this shot does it justice. I had to upload a large version as my usual size was over-sharpened to the point of stupidity by flickr!

bugie, menzogne, nulla d'intelligente.
Finalmente riuscii a provare quella sensazione unica
liberandomi dall'umana stupidità.
fui finalmente libero di riscontrare qualche novità
senza imbattermi nella solita mediocrità.

I was sitting on my branch listening carefully
the bullshit people were saying
petrified on my branch I remained listening to people
lies, lies, nothing intelligent.
Horrified, I spread my wings and took off
to go away from this place.
disgusted by the wings, I turned away from the ground
to detach me more from this world.
Finally I managed to feel that unique feeling
freeing me from human stupidity.
I was finally free to find some news
without encountering the usual mediocrity.

Western Green Lizard (Lacerta Bilineata) | Male In "Wedding Suit" During Mating Season In Spring | Monteggio (CH) | May 2021
More TICINO/TESSIN Wildlife Photos (all taken in my garden in Monteggio/Ti, Switzerland): it.lacerta-bilineata.com/ramarro-occidentale-lacerta-bili... (the website exists in ESPAÑOL, FRANÇAIS, ITALIANO, ENGLISH, DEUTSCH)
My latest ANIMAL VIDEO (warning, it's a bit shocking): www.youtube.com/watch?v=4T2-Xszz7FI
ABOUT THIS PHOTO:
When male western green lizards are in love, their face turns blue. This doesen't happen instantly (they can't change color at will like chameleons); the lizards need to shed their old, slightly less colorful (but also very pretty) skin first, and once that is accomplished, they appear in the beautiful "wedding suit" you can see in this photo.
With this look they try to impress the lady lizards during mating season, which lasts approximately from April to June, but the colors are the most striking in the immediate aftermath of the lizards losing their "old coat". I was very lucky to capture this gorgeous male at this very moment; in fact, you can still see parts of the old, dark skin covering the top of its head and other parts of the body where it hadn't quite come off yet.
But I was lucky in more than one sense with this photo. Let me explain (I have an idea some photographer or other here on Flickr will be able to sympathize with the anecdote that follows ;-). This year in May when I hoped to photograph the green lizards around my vacation home with my newly purchased camera, I soon realized something was different from the years before, because I couldn't find a single one of my green friends in their usual spots in my garden.
As I would learn over the next few days, the entire western green lizard population had relocated from my garden into a huge fly honeysuckle shrub just outside my garden next to an empty horse pasture where they were relatively safe from the growing number of cats in our village that had specialized in lizard hunting. Up in that shrub, not only was it hard for ground predators to get at them, but the lizards also had an excellent 360° view of their surroundings.
Western green lizards are naturally very shy, but this apparently traumatized group now had become hyper-alert to anything approaching them, and they immediately fled into the thickest of the leaves whenever I tried to get near enough for a usable photo. Now, I'm not one to give up easily (and I really, REALLY wanted to get those photos), so I tried every sneaky-stealth-approach technique I could think of (even crawling on all fours - which in hindsight was a terrible idea since all it did was making me look like the world's biggest and ugliest cat to the lizards) - but to no avail.
Completely exasperated, I came up with a new strategy. I would keep that fly honeysuckle shrub under constant observation; like an FBI agent preparing for a crackdown on a suspected Mafia hideout, I was there, watching and waiting, hour after hour, all day long. It took me another several days until I had finally figured out at what times of the day the males usually left the fly honeysuckle shrub; I wanted to know their "schedule" so I could be there before them and blend in with the environment, ready to photograph them as soon as they would show up on the ground.
And all my meticulous, hard work seemed to pay off: the first day I took this appraoch a gorgeous male showed up just where I expected it to (although Mr Lizard had me waiting for alomst two hours!). Alas, I hadn't considered where the sun would be and had installed myself in such a stupid angle that the lizard was backlit; in all the photos the little devil appeared only as a mostly black silhouette against the bright morning sun. I cursed my stupidity, tore out my hair and was close to throwing my expensive new camera against a wall in anger and frustration. Then I remembered the cold beer in the fridge and realized that life was still worth living, and I promised myself to do better next time.
The next day I was smart enough to make camp in a spot form where the object of my photographic desire would be perfectly lit (from the lizard's perspective, now I would be the black silhouette against the sun ;-). I waited. And I waited some more. And it was hot and getting hotter by the minute. After nearly 3 hours during which my neighbors started to give me very funny looks (in fact, they had already decided the day before that I must be crazy, what with standing motionless in front of a bush for several hours in the burning sun), around noon, I'd had enough. And that's when I heard something moving in the grass.
And there he was: barely visible through the thick green carpet, but definitely coming towards me. A few seconds later a virtual lizard king appeared, in all his gorgeous green and blue glory, and perfectly lit - and that's when I heard loud, happy voices approaching. Two young boys came running - and the lizard stopped dead in its tracks (unfortunately, it was still a bit too far away for a good photo). I'm not religious, but I started a quick prayer then and there (please God, please: let these kids not be running towards me - PLEASE!!!).
But nope, God apparently remembered that I usually refer to myself as agnostic, and surely enough the two boys ran right to where I was - and where Mr Lizard now wasn't. All that yelling and running was too much for my lizard king: goodbye and "auf Wiedersehen"; see ya next year - and off he went. And that was that. I couldn't believe it; I felt a frustration so intense wash over me I regretted ever having picked up a camera.
As for the kids, don't worry: both boys are alive and well ;-) It was the first day of their Pentecost holiday, and they had just arrived in the village. I was standing next to the empty horse pasture, and the two little boys now innocently asked me where the horsies went (they had obviously been looking forward to seeing them and now were very disappointed). I took a deep breath and muttered that I had no idea.
I don't know how other photographers would have felt in that situation, but I only wanted to be left alone (and possibly tear out what was left of my hair and reconsider that wall and what nice noise it would make upon collision with my camera ;-). Needless to say, the kids had other plans. Now that it was clear that there were no horsies, I had become the main attraction, and they weren't going anywhere. So I swallowed my anger, accepted that - obviously - the kids didn't do anything wrong (and also that I would probably never ever be able to get that desired shot with my new camera).
The boys were eager to know what I was photographing, and so I told them everything about western green lizards, about their amazing colors and how rare and shy they were, and that they were among the largest lizards in Europe and a protected species - and my two new friends became instantly fascinated. Now they wanted to wait and see this magical creature with their own eyes. I assured them there was no chance the lizard would come back after all the noise "we" had made, and just as I said this, one of the boys yelled "I see it!"
And sure enough, he was right. Apparently my lizard king had decided that a little yelling and running wasn't gonna get between him and his favorite sun-basking spot, a little heap of cut, dry grass underneath the fence of the horse pasture. I told the kids to be very still - which they were - and then we all got to see how this beautiful creature emerged from the grass, very, very slowly and carefully, and positioned itself on the heap of dry grass in such a way that it got the perfect amount of sunlight.
So in the end I got my portrait shot - and quite a few more in the weeks that followed (which you can find on my website www.lacerta-bilineata.com ). During the remainder of their holiday the two kids would run into me every now and then, and every time they excitedly talked about this fantastic, blue-headed reptile they had seen with me that day. I guess only time will tell, but I hope this encounter has sparked an interest in nature in them (I have a feeling the next time they spend their holiday in our little village, the horsies will have some reptilian competition ;-)

Furillen is gone.
The war is going on.
It's always happening somewhere.
Ukraine is not the only one. Wars are always going on all over the world.
I know that if I lament the stupidity of war here, the world will not change immediately.
Many people also know that they don't pay much attention to the words written here.
Some say that art is powerless against war.
But all I can do is make something and make a small voice.
Is it meaningless?
But I don't think people should be indifferent to being in a dangerous situation, exposed to sadness and fear.
Art may not match bullet, but indifference will destroy a lot more than missiles.
And the chain of sadness and hatred will be bigger and deeper, and will eventually swallow us too.
I don't want to stop making something, even if it doesn't make sense.
And I will continue to mutter peace in a small voice.
If I make something and you see it
And you make something and I see it
The small circle of ripples that spreads in this way may change the world little by little.

standing watch until the sun will rise
I can't, I can't see this all as progress
how did we come this far?
when we see ourselves as deities
claim nature for ourselves
by our actions we betray the instincts in our race
by our blindness and stupidity we kill everything
we kill everything
can someone see our self destruction?
are we reminding ourselves that our existence is so delicate
that without this light we are no more
that without this light we've made we are no more
a million points of light
ascending to the sky
monuments in darkness
standing watch
until the sun will rise
we torch the earth until it bleeds
rain ashes from the sky
just to make a light that no one can see
we cut the earth until it bleeds
just to make a light that no one can see
just to make a light
we kill everything
by our blindness and stupidity
we kill everything
and in a thousand years what will be our legacy?

Think about the future so that I will not be crushed by sad days.
"My future design"
A sustainable future, a stable society is needed for that. In a society where violence can change the situation, we cannot pursue sustainable efforts.
We have many problems that the world needs to work together to solve, such as global warming, pandemics and wars, as soon as possible. If we do not deal with those problems in good faith right now, 100 years later, 200 years later, our descendants will blame our stupidity in the utmost words.
I already know that word.
"You were so stupid that you were selfish, always put off problems, and were incapable of doing justice."
Many of us thanked our parents and cherished the culture and traditions that our ancestors had built, but all of them were denied by our descendants, and the conclusion was that our lives were meaningless. If so, does it make sense for us to live?
So I suggest.
It punishes those who do selfish words and deeds, those who commit violence, and those who bring destruction to the future of humankind.
For their sins, I will transplant cute cat ears to them.
And let's say they should only use the words "Meow" and "Thank you".
Perhaps Will Smith will be the first Academy Award winner with cat ears after ten years.
People love the deep expression, the soft cat ears, and the witty "MEOW" as machismo becomes a shadow of its former self.
Then what about that dictator?
I'm tough on him, but he may at least be the model of Scrooge in Disney's latest 3D animated "A Christmas Carol" to be released in 2222.
I dont't know about the cat ears on his bald head looks cute or not...hope to people love it.
Meow!

And now that I should pose for another photograph
can you tell me by chance what is the best shot?
now that with a selfie you show everything to everyone
and so be it
we frame it
or do I throw it away?
Words on the notes were the best company
to face the stupidity we still have the joy
if heaven granted a little grace to every soul down here
I would be a saint
soul that sings
that sings in balance over an emotion
that turns people's lives upside down
which cannot be fully explained but which remains deep in the heart
I'm all the love I've given
all the unconditional love
the embarrassment behind the boasting
a smile inside the tears
I'm all the love I have given
stormy sea and starry sky
just before a crash
a smile inside the tears
And now that you ask me to smile I would like to forget
wounds to lick and great loves only to be desired
if the universe disappeared in an instant and was gone
I would definitely stay forever
forever balanced on an emotion
that turns people's lives upside down
which cannot be fully explained but which remains deep in the heart
I'm all the love I've given

the embarrassment behind the boasting
a smile inside the tears

quick update here:
To people who come to my page and leave a comment there, which, being perfectly subjective and unsightly, must stop (comments that I delete, of course) . When I stop on a page, a photo, and if I leave a comment, and that I take the photo in fav, it is because I like it. I will never leave a comment on a page where I never go, a page that does not interest me, only to leave comments there. words surely translating jealousy or stupidity .
So, yes, I use M-journey, among others, free program available to all! really fed up with these people with little brains!
Sorry, but this is the third time in a month that someone has come to bother me and be disrespectful on my own page, there I say enough. Here, what interests me is art, emotion, beauty in all its forms, the rest, I really don't care!

In an Enchanted Rose Garden Destroyed by Indignant Old Ladies’ Fatal Lobbying
While I was taking pictures here one day, two old ladies appeared behind me and cried shame and scandal at the sight of the untidy state of this rosarium at some extent left to itself. I, on the other hand, had year after year enjoyed the enchantment of this sleepy rose garden at the Donaukanal in Vienna and found lots and lots of wonderful photo motifs there. I could not foresee the impending disaster at that moment.
Old ladies indignant at untidiness are a natural force that can't be stopped with bare hands (except by strangling them in time, but this isn't allowed by the law). In the spring of the next year, when I wanted to look for the first rose blossoms there, I found a construction site fence with the announcement that they were laying out a new rosarium... I waited one year for the result.
The result? The result is shattering. The result is tidiness without any roses. It's an annoying alibi parkway. The Vienna municipality gardeners are doing great jobs. Any of their parkways is worth being photographed, because they follow their excellent ideas, except this one, which is the result of the indignant old ladies' fatal lobbying.
Luckily I have dozens of photos of this wonderful rosarium destroyed by human stupidity in my archives...
Last night we were photographing at Durdle Door to see if we could get some nice starry sky with it. While we were standing on a high opposite cliff we watched youngsters camping by the arch having a container with a huge fire with them. Then we saw a guy on the cliff doing a mighty act of light painting with what was burning steel wool as we assumed and seconds later there was a wild fire which worked its way up the cliff. I really have no words to express my dismay and disgust at the utter stupidity of these "social media whores" risking our landscapes and even wildlife for their self-promoting acts!

I've not been down here very often recently as the water level has been a good 1.5m lower than normal revealing Ellesmere Port's very own 'beach,' which has been the source of much amusement on the local social media groups with people taking deckchairs down for picnics. 'El Porto has never looked finer,' and 'Who needs Benidorm?' type posts.
I asked on the ship canal FB group why it was so low and the replies were another source of much amusement. A full on argument ensued where the majority insisted it was lack of rain and the streams and brooks that feed the canal were low too. The sensible amongst us pointed out we have had much longer periods without rain, such as the hot spell during lockdown but nope....it was definitely due to lack of rain. One person even extended an offer of fisticuffs, 'I'll fight anyone that tries to say it's for any other reason than lack of rain. The level of stupidity being shown in this group staggers me!'
It descended further until Godwin's Law happened and one person accused another of being a Nazi and a vicious Brexiteer.
I'd bowed out but remained firmly in the camp of there must be another reason other than lack of rain.
This is an older shot but I went down yesterday and the water level was back to normal....overnight! And we hadn't suddenly had a biblical downpour to make 20 odd miles of canal rise 1.5m.
After a little more research I discovered there had been embankment repair works upstream at Warrington. Go figure.....
Social media was alive with many 'RIP El Porto beach, you will be sorely missed,' type posts:)
I plead guilty:). We also made several Selfies in the world's largest rooftop infinity pool in Marina Bay Sands Hotel. I didn't see anyone who didn't make one. It is simply a special experience to walk during the day instead of in the glowing streets, to splash on floor 57 (200m over the ground) and to watch the hustle and bustle in Singapore from above. Or to enjoy the sunset and afterwards to marvel at the millions of lights in the night. Of course, you are not alone. As the experience is so extraordinary, one quickly forgets the other guests around oneself.
The stay in Marina Bay Sands should actually be a lifetime experience. Unfortunately it does not work, i have to repeat the experience. Besides my RX100 and Smartphone, i took countless pictures with my DSLR. By my own stupidity I had formatted the memory card:-O and overwritten it with other pictures:-(.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The clouds were moving through at quite a pace with a strong westerly fighting against the incoming tide and the light constantly changing.
I haven't messed up for quite a while but stupidly took my glasses off and carefully placed them on a large pebble by my feet only for one rogue wave that came much further up the beach to soak my feet and wash my glasses away. A frantic 15 minutes of searching and I finally located them about 10 metres to my left!
Trees by the local river light up with the last rays of the day.
Luck is not endless, but stupidity is.
The climb of this volcano? I made so many stupid mistakes!
- Wear jeans to save time to go to a church and monument afterwards (mistake one);
- The back bag was heavy with all the photographic equipment, water, sunscreen, gloves, headdress, food, etc;
- I was alone and without a mountain guide;
- I believed in the written travel guides that said the climb was possible alone. Stone wall, unmarked and fog at the end of the climb?
I almost don't think about giving up on things, but jeans on climbing the stone wall where you have to do side or up heels with your body and hold on with the strength of your hands or shoulders and on top to make things worse, weighted back bag. I thought two or three times about giving up. I saw in my mind the stupidity I was doing. In my mind I fell on the rocky and cloudy cliff below, I didn't die, I broke all the bones of the body, I lost the good camera inside the bag and I was only on the fourth day of the trip of almost 25 days. Elias' crazy thoughts!
I learned my lesson, I hope!
Ecclesiastes 7:25 “I turned my thoughts to know, explore, and seek wisdom and an explanation for things, and to know that wickedness is stupidity and folly is madness.”

Another installment of Fuzztar Lens Friday. I have made mention of the 75-200 Vivitar lens that I foolishly used during the late 1980s when I lived in Texas, then New Hampshire, then Montana before I realized that a good camera cant take good photos with a POS lens. I still find shots such as this that make me cringe at my stupidity. I guess you were suppose to focus as well as zoom. And what's a loupe? At least photo shop can now minimize the severe vignette around the edges.

One of the funny moments I've had in photography as three of were photographing this kestrel when it dropped down from the tree that it had been for ten minutes right in front of us within 4 feet and not one of us got the shot of that. one of us could see it o the ground but could not focus for some reason then me in my stupidity thought "zoom out" as it was so close ready for the take off only to realise when it rose that it did not fill the frame at all lol. So this is a massive crop of a kestrel that I present to you lol. Live and learn.
Dark, green, humid and misty. That's a jungle, right? Except it is in Czech Republic, where no jungle is supposed to be. Change of the clima? Can Europe eventually become another Amazonia? Well, not with all that wood cutting around. Also, no monkeys or deadly insect. Only deadly stupidity...

How did we come this far?
When we see ourselves as deities
Claiming nature for ourselves
By our actions we betray
The instincts in our race
By our blindness and stupidity
We kill everything
We kill... everything

the black wildebeest (connochates gnou) was a typical gnou endemic in southern part of africa.
considered a pest from farmers and hunted for the meat it was almost brought to extinction.
almost at the end the human stupidity was stopped and the reintroduction/protection begun.
the easiest way to recognize black wildebeest from the common "blue wildebeest" is the white tail.

“I've never been lonely. I've been in a room -- I've felt suicidal. I've been depressed. I've felt awful -- awful beyond all -- but I never felt that one other person could enter that room and cure what was bothering me...or that any number of people could enter that room. In other words, loneliness is something I've never been bothered with because I've always had this terrible itch for solitude. It's being at a party, or at a stadium full of people cheering for something, that I might feel loneliness. I'll quote Ibsen, "The strongest men are the most alone." I've never thought, "Well, some beautiful blonde will come in here and give me a fuck-job, rub my balls, and I'll feel good." No, that won't help. You know the typical crowd, "Wow, it's Friday night, what are you going to do? Just sit there?" Well, yeah. Because there's nothing out there. It's stupidity. Stupid people mingling with stupid people. Let them stupidify themselves. I've never been bothered with the need to rush out into the night. I hid in bars, because I didn't want to hide in factories. That's all. Sorry for all the millions, but I've never been lonely. I like myself. I'm the best form of entertainment I have. Let's drink more wine!”
