Inside the keep. At Fort-la-Latte (originally known as Roche-Goyon) which was built in the 14th century. The work was begun in 1340 on orders from Étienne III Goyon, seigneur de Matignon, with the donjon (keep) built in 1365-1370. The castle was besieged in 1379 and saw action during the French Wars of Religion (fought 1562-1598). It was viewed as a strategic point as late as the 19th century.
The place went through some heavy restoration work in the first half of the 20th century, when the castle had lost its military significance and was more interesting for its medieval charm. The exterior has even been used as a backdrop for a movie: The Vikings from 1958 starring Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis (though a historian would point out that a 14th century castle most likely never saw any Vikings at all).

According to the sign on the right wall, the area behind the closed door is an extraterritorial part of the Vatican. The rest of the Vatican can be found just across the street from where I am standing.
Because we are on the subject of elemental forces, I would like to continue today with an image that I am particularly happy about.
Here you can see the Boka Waterfall, the highest waterfall in Slovenia. On the first step, the water plunges an incredible 106 meters into the depths. You can hear that from afar.
What you don't see are the mountains behind and above the waterfall. At the time of my ascent, these were completely covered by thick thunderclouds. The way up was correspondingly exciting, as every thunderstorm and downpour that passed over me made me sit on the ground and wait for it to end (or my own end, I wasn't always so sure). This was also an elemental force that I was confronted with here.
What I love most about this photo is the appearance of the water pouring straight out of the clouds. I think I caught a special moment with that.
Weil wir gerade bei Urgewalten sind möchte ich heute mit einem Bild fortfahren, über das ich besonders glücklich bin.
Ihr seht hier den Boka Wasserfall, den höchsten Wasserfall Sloveniens. Das Wasser stürzt hier auf der ersten Stufe sagenhafte 106 Meter in die Tiefe. Das hört man schon von Weitem.
Was ihr nicht seht sind die Berge hinter und oberhalb des Wasserfalles. Zum Zeitpunkt meines Aufstieges waren diese komplett von dicken Gewitterwolken eingehüllt. Der Weg nach oben war demensprechend aufregend, da ich mich bei jedem Gewitter und Wolkenbruch, der über mich hinweg zog auf den Boden gesetzt und auf dessen Ende gewartet habe (oder auf mein eigenes, ich war mir da nicht immer so sicher). Auch dies war eine Urgewalt, mit der ich hier konfrontiert wurde.
Was ich an diesem Foto am meissten liebe ist der Anschein, dass sich die Wassermassen direkt aus den Wolken ergießen. Ich denke, damit hab ich schon einen besonderen Moment erwischt.

The light from the window at the top of the stairs wasn't really helping when taking this shot - but if you accept it, I think it adds some drama to the photo.
Taken at Glimmingehus. Glimmingehus is a late medieval castle built 1499-1505 in what was then Denmark and now Sweden. It was built for Jens Holgersen Ulfstand (died about 1520) by the master builder and stonemason Adam van Düren (who also did some of the decorations inside the castle). Adam was most likely from Westphalia but worked for several decades in Denmark and Sweden.
The house is one of most well preserved medieval castles in Scandinavia - but due to the lateness of the building date it soon went out of fashion and was subsequently turned into a grain storage. It was donated to the Swedish state in 1924 and turned into a museum.

Quicklebendig springt der kleine Wildbach Stufe um Stufe durch Stein und Fels hin zur großen Donau. Ein leichter Hauch von beginnendem Herbst schickt mildes Licht in die Szene.
The small torrent jumps lively step by step through stone and rock to the large Danube. A slight hint of incipient autumn sends mild light into the scene.
Here we are back at Boka Waterfall. This time at eye level. That was the highest point of my tour. After that I went down again.
As you can see, the storm clouds have scrambled up the mountainsides a bit now that they have unloaded a large part of their load directly over me. A significant portion of it is now in my pants and shoes.
What now appears is not quite as dramatic as in the other photo, but I was still very enthusiastic for two reasons.
On the one hand, these huge amounts of water shoot directly out of the mountain. I've always pictured the source of a river as a gentle murmur rather than such a thunderclap. Just as a reminder, the first step of this waterfall is 106 meters high.
On the other hand, I discovered a green heart above the waterfall, drawn by bushes on the rock. The water is flowing directly from the tip of the heart. Do you see that too?
By the way, the photo is a panorama of 4 upright shots. That was necessary, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get all of this great scenery in one picture.
Hier sind wir wieder zurück am Boka Wasserfall. Dieses Mal auf Augenhöhe. Das war der höchste Punkt meiner Tour. Danach bin ich wieder abgestiegen.
Wie Ihr sehen könnt, sind die Gewitterwolken nun, da sie einen großen Teil ihrer Last direkt über mir abgeladen haben, ein Stück weit die Berghänge empor geklettert. Ein nenneswerter Teil davon befindet sich jetzt in meiner Hose und meinen Schuhen.
Was nun zum Vorschein kommt ist nicht ganz so dramatisch wie auf dem anderen Foto, hat mich trotzdem aus zwei Gründen sehr begeistert.
Zum einen schießen diese Unmengen an Wasser direkt aus dem Berg. Ich habe mir die Quelle einen Flusses immer als ein sanftes Plätschern vorgestellt und nicht als solch einen Donnerfall. Nur zur Erinnerung, die erste Stufe dieses Wasserfalls ist 106 Meter hoch.
Zum anderen habe ich oberhalb des Wasserfalls ein grünes Herz entdeckt, gezeichnet von Büschen auf dem Fels. Das Wasser ströhmt dabei direkt aus der Spitze des Herzens. Seht Ihr das auch ?
Bei dem Foto handelt es sich übrigens um ein Panorama aus 4 hochkant Fotos. Das war nötig, sonst hätte ich diese großartige Kulisse nicht komplett auf ein Bild bekommen.

Right now it is even too warm for Cleo although she usually likes heat. No chance to convince her to lift her head or even smile for a photo. I haven't told her yet that it will get even warmer in the next days ...
Whenever I have time and the weather permits I work in the garden at the moment. My little shadow Tofu is often nearby and wants to help. Today he was quite exhausted, though, I guess it had to do with the weather. We had unusually warm temperatures and there was a thunderstorm in the air.
