I adjusted the exposure and colors of the background image, using Curves, Hue/Saturation, and (mostly) Selective Color in Photoshop to make the colors stand out more. In order to brighten main bicycle against the tree shadows, I selected the frame and added a Selective Color adjustment to the selection. I also added text and logos with drop shadows to increase their contrast against the background.
Message:
This poster advertises the Mayors' Ride as a study break to appeal to students who are stressed with finals. The image of bicycles hanging in the trees appeals to the particular culture of the poster's audience. Overall, the poster maintains a lighthearted tone that conveys the enjoyability of the ride as an effective break.
BCIT is notorious for having an intense schedule with lots of assignments and projects due. Every once in a while it’s important to get a coffee to keep yourself energized. Fortunately, BCIT has many places to get a coffee on campus.
