waiting on the lawn of "the quadrangle" (that we referred to as "the quad" -- pretty sure the irish never called it this...) of NUI Galway with the study abroad group for orientation. one of the girls completely passed out - as it was still only a couple of days after we landed and we were all still wonky with the time change.

and we felt pretty legit hanging out there. :)

What do I wear? How much clothes do I bring? Here is a packing list to help answer some of your questions.

1st Place – Architecture and Landscapes

Before I started my study abroad term at the University of Newcastle, I had the chance to explore Tasmania. On this tour, I saw some amazing sites including the Wineglass Bay, Honeymoon Bay, and Carp Bay. I also met some incredible people from all over the world!

One of the methods of immersion my program employed was partnering with local restaurants and cafes to provide us with good meals and interactions with locals through something that is crucial to Italian culture, food and drink! This photo was taken on the day before I was to leave Florence with a friend I had made by frequenting a local café that was on my walk to school. Every day I went there for espresso and a pastry for breakfast and often for an amazing panino for lunch. Giuseppe, my friend in the photo, was always working when I would come in and always took care of me and talked with me in whatever language we could. He was learning English and I was learning Italian so sometimes the conversations were a mix of those two languages or, when we got frustrated, we spoke French to each other because we both happened to have studied it growing up in school and at university. Giuseppe introduced me to parts of Italian culture I would have never known about and without his friendship and his willingness to share his experience I would have remained ignorant. We discussed things like Italian politics, commonalities and differences between Italians and Americans, the southern regions of Italy (his home), the Italian education system, philosophy (his field of study), and I was able to introduce him to some Americanisms he was unaware of. I saw him almost every day and he became one of my best friends and a support system in a foreign place. Giuseppe showed me the proper way to welcome someone into your culture and make them feel at home. Wollongong, Australia

"My Australian dorm mates and I woke up just before sunrise on the first day of spring (September 1, 2009). It was a family tradition of my roommate’s to take a swim in the ocean at sunrise on the first day of spring, so we all joined him and took a dip at our Fairy Meadow beach in Wollongong at exactly sunrise. It was a cold, but unforgettable, experience."

Man, vodka was cheap back in those heady days of 2000.

For the nine students who made the 21-day trip in January 2017, the scarcity and simplicity of life in Cuba – from the 1950s cars to the empty supermarket shelves to the limited Internet service - challenged every convention of their lives back home.

The study abroad trip combined two classes: Journeys through Latin America: Contemporary Cuba, taught by Murillo, and Health, Culture and Elder Care in Cuba, taught by Kirby Veevers, an adjunct professor of Health Professions who specializes in palliative care, aging and long-term care.

It was supposed to rain today (no surprise there) but instead we got this perfect afternoon- with a chill in the air, as though it were fall. I've tinkered with the saturation and sharpness on this picture- adjustments I'd like to learn how to make with the camera rather than the computer.
