Maturing of landscape and its impact on the college buildings has been a real revelation.
The free standing brick walls, glass canopies on cantilevered steel, manicured hedges and lawns, contrasting with random growth of shrubs and trees and the formal water gardens filled with colourful fish – are so well integrated with the buildings and the footpaths that the experience of walking in and around the building can only be described as sheer ‘poetic’ magic. This college must be one of the best examples for near perfect integration of landscape and the built forms.
Compare slides of 1966 to see the impact of landscaping.

When the spring rains come, Dunedin turns mild and wet. I think it brings out the Scottish character very dramatically, and it's a good time to start photographing city scapes because of the added gloss everywhere. These images were taken in the student areas around the Polytechnic and university. I hope you appreciate that I got really, really drenched snapping these images. Haptchoo.

Whilst this shot of the Tietgen Dormitory in Orestad does have a whole load of curves going on I do think the bright green seats in the foreground compete a bit too much with the main subject.
The picture was actually taken from behind the windshield of my car. My husband was driving me back from a lunch date. I took the picture as we were driving on University Drive past the Stangle Building heading toward the main campus. .

A frank confession that this building remains one of my all time favourites is due at this stage. Recently redecorated (possibly an honour for its 50th birthday?), was empty and waiting for the new crop of students when I visited.

Student residences at Loyalist College in Belleville, Ontario.
One of a series of photographic slides taken by the Keller family of Belleville between 1964 and 1994.
"Designed by Bay Area architect George Kelham, International House Berkeley officially opened on August 18, 1930. It was the largest student housing complex in the Bay Area and the first coeducational student residence west of the Mississippi."
This view is in the large auditorium where lectures open to the public are frequently presented.
