I love colors and thus I have a really hard time creating monochrome photos. I can easily appreciate a good black and white photo from someone else but when it comes to my own photography, most of the time I prefer the original in color.

The many black and white pictures I saw on social networks of the new collectible spaceman inspired me to make one myself. I thought it would be a good opportunity to force myself work in black and white. Unfortunately I still prefer the color version over the monochrome one. Maybe the only thing that could force me to work in monochrome is a film camera?

The black and white version of this photo can be seen on my personal website: reiterlied.net/2016/05/11/monochrome-vs-colors

The photo of one of two latest Chima minifig I acquired on Bricklink.

After a sunny day well spent outside, what more could a pirate ask than a good refreshing beverage?

Anton returned to the harbour one crisp Winter morning and as Sinky Luhr was the only one to notice and as nobody ever believed his stories Anton's visit was soon forgotten.

We went on a family hike yesterday and came across these red plants that seemed so out of place. Perfect spot for a toy shoot!

28.01.2024 International LEGO Day

Yesteray I went on a short walk before sunset to take a few photos. To my surprise, because temperatures around close to 0ºC, there were places where snow had almost completely melted. I was glad to find some moss to pose my minifigs in a non snowy environment. (At the same time I had packed mostly minifigs and accessories to play in the snow...)

One of my favorite photo from last winter that I post to enter the "Less if More" Flickr contest

This one was made on the beach, using a sort of tiny waterfall created by the tide. I had to be quick to make it as it was a fight against time: the tide was rising fast and a few minutes later that rock was submerged by the sea.

Happy to New Year to all ;-)

(Despite what might suggest this last picture of 2016, even though it wasn't freezing, the weather was terrible today. It was cloudy, rainy and windy. The wind was so strong that taking this photo (next to the sea) was a real challenge. Initially I wanted to make a photo of Snowbacca ice skating but the wind was too strong. Even though I managed to make him stay in place sitted, I lost his ice skates which were taken away by the wind while I was posing him.)

Sometimes I can struggle for days to get the photo I want to make. But sometimes it seems some kind of magic happens.

This is one of the two first custom third-party minifigs (by BrickUltra) I acquired. On the day I went for a stroll in the woods with the goal of taking Lara’s portrait, I wasn’t feeling inspired by the location. At the beginning of my two hours stroll, I spotted a nice elevated area with some moss that wasn’t fantastic but decent enough to take a photo. On the return trip, because I didn’t find something better and didn’t want to come back home empty-handed again, I decided to try to use that spot for my portrait of Lara.

That’s when the magic happened. As I was looking through my viewfinder, I saw the trees in the background transforming into a green blurry mess. And when I saw the result on the LCD screen, I knew I had captured something far beyond my expectations.

The ISEE team has spent the day exploring the desert surface of MOA-2010-BLG-328L b, a super earth orbiting a star by the same name. This MOA has an orbital period of 972 days which means its summer season is equal to a full year on earth. Because of its size a full day equals approximately 4.267 times a standard day on earth. Needless to say they are ready for this day to end.

Roboter Kostüm Figur

Helios-44M-4 58mm F2 M42,

This is the photo I took for the Stuck in Plastic Star Wars contest. Even though it's quite simple, it took me hours to make it. First on the background is my latest MOC: a replica of Yoda's hut I initially built for another contest (and that I won't submit as the MOC isn't complete). Then I played for hours with a fog machine in order to try to recreate the atmosphere of Dagobah. Even though the fog looked pretty cool, I never achieved to get it right as I wanted in camera. In the end I merged 15 different photos in Photoshop in order to get something closer to what I envisioned.

One of my first photos of 2017. I wanted to take that one with Rey and BB-8 but used Jyn instead. It seemed to me that Rey's dark red bike wouldn't fit as well with the landscape and the light as Jyn's white bike.

This is what happens after a visit to the LEGO store and having Hamburgers for lunch in Hamburg. Thanks to @davirasm for te help with the fry and the raining salt!

Summer is here! So I try to forget about my studio and try to do more outdoors pictures. A good place, woods and natural light.... that's all you need...

So If you go somewhere outdoors this weekend make sure to take your camera and a couple of toys with you! And I guarantee it will be fun and you will feel fresh!

Have a fun and relaxing weekend!

Another b/w photograph. This one has a story to it, it's one of a series of my "empty spots" photographs. Backgrounds taken with a spaceship in mind whenever I come across a nice place, with a suitable spaceship added later.

I did not post this originally (Oct 2013) because I thought it was perhaps not as original as I'd hoped for. A little too close to some of Cedric Delsaux's work. I can't help it though, I come up with them spontaneously.

I also wrote a post about this in the Stuck in Plastic blog. I like to write there from time to time.

Last month I started writing a monthly "photography diary" on my blog where I reflect on my photography during the past month.

I just published the one for September this morning where I mostly talk about my trip 3 weeks ago to the North-Westernmost village of Finland to enjoy the Ruska (the autumn colors in Finland). In it, I reflect how my photography has evolved and how I often struggle with taking photos when traveling, about my struggling capturing those autumn colors and about how I experimented with intentional camera movements.

(Also I didn't advertise the first post in this series, which can also be read here: inthenorth.maelick.net/2020/09/01/photography-diary-summe...)

The Loreley is a rock on the rhine river between Koblenz and Wiesbaden. It’s famous for the myth of the siren that would make sailors crash their ships into the rock. This photo of Ariel was taken at the tip of the island in Sankt Goarshausen where the famous Loreley statue is located. Initially I wanted to take a photo of Ariel next to the statue but once on location, I realized it wouldn’t look good, so I ended up taking the photo looking in the direction of the rhine.

When I created my series of photos "Woody's Ethylic Love Story" for the "Make it seem" Stuck in Plastic challenge, I had a backup in case it wouldn't work as expected. This alternate series would depict a scene of skeleton minifigures lying on the ground in the middle of empty glasses and bottles. Each photo was supposed to show details of the scene so the viewer could get the bigger picture of something supposed to be happy (partying) looking sad (death). However it turned out it didn't work for me as much as the Woody series. This photo is my favorite photo of the series.

One of those cool things I love in Northern Norway during winter are those patches of thin ice found near the coast. They make the perfect setting for taking photos of minifigures.

Sometimes Anton wonders why he keeps it around, but then of course it's the only cat he knows that loves water and fishing as much as him.🎣👍 #legooldfishingstore #whereisanton #stuckinplastic #fishing #lego
