Structure Protection at Spotted Bear Ranger Station 8/8/2023. Water tanks called 'pumpkins' are used to hold water. With Mark 3 water pumps and hose lays. The building is one of the houses for the district personnel.
This structure was formed by a mixture of rising steam, sediment and solidified lava fragments above the contact zone between lava and cold, shallow marine sediments
I was collecting supplies, having the kids put their papertowels on this table. When I turned around, this was what I saw. Of course, being the cool teacher I am, I said, "Well, let's see how long this lasts!"
The Balconies is a structure on the north end of Pinnacles Park named for the repeating ledges that follow the landscape over a ridge. It's seen here framed by a couple of pinnacles from the High Peaks Trail between shadow and sun.
