Sherman Oaks Fire Leaves Two Cats Injured by Los Angeles Fire Department

At 3:05PM on February 17, 2026 the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 4500 block of N Woodman Ave.

Firefighters arrived to find a three story (over parking) apartment building with fire showing from one unit on the 3rd floor.

Crews initiated an offensive fire attack, locating, isolating and extinguishing the fire in 34 minutes. There were no injuries to residents or firefighter but two cats were in the unit and jumped from the balcony. The older cat sustained significant injuries and LAFD assisted with the transport to a veterinary hospital. The younger cat was not as severely injured and was brought to the same hospital by some neighbors.

The incident commander request LAFD Arson for assistance with cause determination and it is an open, active investigation.

Major Emergency Structure Fire in North Hills by Los Angeles Fire Department

At 5:43PM on January 13, 2026 the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire in the 15200 block of W Parthenia St in North Hills. The first arriving units encountered a two-story, boarded-up commercial building with heavy fire showing, exposing a large adjacent apartment building. Four additional task forces were requested and the incident upgraded to a Major Emergency structure fire.

Due to the volume of fire and compromised floors within the building, Incident Commander, Battalion Chief Scott Hilton, directed a defensive operation on the fire unit and an offensive operation to defend the exposed, four-story apartment building.

Crews deployed ladder pipes and master streams to contain the blaze. Access to the seat of the fire was restricted until a roof collapse allowed water streams to reach the interior. Simultaneously, firefighters conducted a floor-by-floor sweep of the apartment building to assist those self-evacuating and investigate for any fire extension.

Firefighter/paramedics evaluated three patients, two adult females were transported to a local hospital in fair condition for medical complaints. The 3rd adult female patient declined LAFD transport. While the apartment building did not have significant structural damage, three (of the 41) units were yellow-tagged and required the displacement of six adults, 21 children and six pet turtles. The Los Angeles Department of Transportation provided DASH buses for temporary shelter, while the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) and the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region responded to assist with food and immediate relocation needs.

The bulk of the fire was extinguished in just under two hours. The Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety is expected to red-tag the commercial structure as unsafe for occupancy. LAFD crews will remain on fire watch throughout the night, with LAFD Heavy Equipment Operators scheduled to being potential demolition tomorrow morning.

Per protocol for a Major Emergency Structure Fire, LAFD Arson and Counter-Terrorism Section (ACTS) is investigating the cause of the fire.

Hyde Park Commercial Fire by Los Angeles Fire Department

At 11:25AM on March 6, 2026 the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to the 2300 block of W Southwest Dr for a reported structure fire.

Crews arrived to find a one story, U-shaped commercial building (approx 50' x 100') with fire through the roof. This was the site of a previous burn and firefighters established a defensive operation.

The first arriving 68 firefighters extinguished the fire in 29 minutes with no injuries reported. The fire was contained to the building of origin.

Hollywood Hills Home Destroyed by Fire by Los Angeles Fire Department

At 9:36AM on March 7, 2026 the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 8500 block of W Oak Court in the Hollywood Hills.

The first arriving fire company encountered a two-story, cantilevered, wood-sided hillside home heavily involved in fire. Driven by wind, the flames extended to the surrounding medium-to-heavy brush and began threatening adjacent, exposed residences.

Because the home was both set back from the roadway and up the hillside, firefighters had to ascend a long, narrow, and steep flight of stairs to reach the seat of the fire. The initial hose-lay required nearly 300 feet of line just to reach the front door. Due to these significant access challenges and erratic wind conditions, the Incident Commander immediately requested additional resources, elevating the incident to a Greater Alarm.

While ground crews established a defensive operation to tackle the main body of the fire, LAFD Air Ops Helicopter Coordinator (HLCO) (operating in a light duty helicopter) conducted overhead reconnaissance to monitor “embercast” (wind-blown embers that can ignite spot fires at a distance).

To mitigate risk, several fire companies were assigned to structural defense along Cole Crest Drive, located on the opposite ridge downwind from the fire. Assistant Chief Paul Pham also staged a heavy-duty, LAFD water dropping helicopter overhead for an immediate response.

Over 100 firefighters, including two engines and a Battalion Chief from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, extinguished the fire to both the primary structure and the surrounding vegetation, in one hour and 13 minutes.

There were no injuries reported. A neighboring home to the south side sustained minor damage to exterior stairs and a small patch of vegetation, but the structure itself was saved.

The LAFD Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) drone unit conducted thermal searches to ensure no remaining hot spots. Firewatch will be conducted through the day and night.

After an investigation by LAFD Arson and Counter-Terrorism Section (ACTS) the official cause is 'undetermined'.
