At 5:43PM on January 13, 2026 the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire in the 15200 block of W Parthenia St in North Hills. The first arriving units encountered a two-story, boarded-up commercial building with heavy fire showing, exposing a large adjacent apartment building. Four additional task forces were requested and the incident upgraded to a Major Emergency structure fire.
Due to the volume of fire and compromised floors within the building, Incident Commander, Battalion Chief Scott Hilton, directed a defensive operation on the fire unit and an offensive operation to defend the exposed, four-story apartment building.
Crews deployed ladder pipes and master streams to contain the blaze. Access to the seat of the fire was restricted until a roof collapse allowed water streams to reach the interior. Simultaneously, firefighters conducted a floor-by-floor sweep of the apartment building to assist those self-evacuating and investigate for any fire extension.
Firefighter/paramedics evaluated three patients, two adult females were transported to a local hospital in fair condition for medical complaints. The 3rd adult female patient declined LAFD transport. While the apartment building did not have significant structural damage, three (of the 41) units were yellow-tagged and required the displacement of six adults, 21 children and six pet turtles. The Los Angeles Department of Transportation provided DASH buses for temporary shelter, while the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) and the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region responded to assist with food and immediate relocation needs.
The bulk of the fire was extinguished in just under two hours. The Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety is expected to red-tag the commercial structure as unsafe for occupancy. LAFD crews will remain on fire watch throughout the night, with LAFD Heavy Equipment Operators scheduled to being potential demolition tomorrow morning.
Per protocol for a Major Emergency Structure Fire, LAFD Arson and Counter-Terrorism Section (ACTS) is investigating the cause of the fire.

At 9:15PM on July 28, 2018 the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the 7700 block of N Oak Park Ave in #LakeBalboa for a reported structure fire. Firefighters found two sheds well involved in fire and quickly achieved knockdown with no injuries.

At 12:25AM, a reported structure fire was dispatched at 13412 Saticoy St. Heavy smoke and fire was visible from a 300' x 300' pallet yard that extended to the San Fernando Rescue Mission. It took about 90 minutes to get a good handle on the fire.
At 9:01PM on July 4, 2025, the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to the 8100 block of N De Garmo Av for a reported structure fire.
Firefighters arrived to find a row of detached garages with heavy fire showing.
Knockdown was achieved in 20 minutes with no injuries reported.

At 9:02 PM on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, The Los Angeles City Fire Department (LAFD) responded to multiple reports of a structure fire in the 1600 block of South Pacific Avenue, San Pedro. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire venting through the roof of a single-story commercial structure. Firefighters immediately launched an interior, offensive attack. However, as the fire grew in intensity and the structural integrity of the roof became compromised, the Incident Commander ordered the transition to a defensive operation. This move prioritized firefighter safety, using ladder pipes and heavy stream hand lines to "drown" the fire from the exterior.
As a thick smoke plume drifted toward an adjacent apartment building, Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers conducted door-to-door notifications, advising residents to"shelter-in-place" for their safety.
In a strategic maneuver late in the operation, crews briefly returned to an offensive posture once the bulk of the fire was suppressed. This allowed firefighters to penetrate the interior, reach isolated pockets of fire in hard-to-access areas, and push the fire towards the center of the building for final extinguishment from a safe defensive position.
Incident Commander, Assistant Chief Paul Pham, officially declared knockdown at 11:02pm, exactly two hours after initial dispatch. There were no reported injuries to firefighters or civilians.
During the overhaul process, fire continued to burn within isolated pockets along the roof in the auto repair / sales business. Firefighters performed a dual role mission, while some crews chased down the fire, others obtained keys to the cars remaining inside to move and protect them from smoke and water damage.
The fire heavily damaged "The Bike Palace," where at least 30 lithium-ion batteries were located. These units requiredLAFD Inspector looking down at the drone controller specialized handling and monitoring to prevent hazardous re-ignition. Inspectors from the LAFD CUPA (Certified Unified Program Agency) were on scene to oversee the identification and safe management of these hazardous materials. They also deployed an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) "drone" which provided critical real-time situational awareness, using thermal imaging to help the Incident Commander identify hidden hazards and hotspots that were not visible from the ground.

KOREATOWN - Heavy smoke was already billowing from this one-story commercial building when firefighters arrived on the morning of July 14, 2024. While crews initially went to the roof and made ground-level entry, officers soon removed personnel from the building due to concerns regarding structural integrity. Heavy water streams were then utilized to fight the fire from the exterior. 134 firefighters coordinated their efforts to achieve knockdown in 53 minutes. No injuries have been reported; fire cause remains under investigation.
