SUNLAND - At 11:10PM on November 1, 2025 the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire in the 10900 block of North Scoville Avenue in Sunland. 36 firefighters arrived to a one-story, single family dwelling with fire and smoke showing. An 87 year old man was found outside the home with critical burn injuries. Firefighter/paramedics provided immediate medical care and transported the patient to the hospital.

With reports of additional occupants possibly trapped inside, firefighters initiated an interior fire attack while conducting a primary search. Tragically, two adult males were found inside the home and determined dead on scene.

Four more adults, already outside the home on LAFD arrival, suffered varying degrees of smoke inhalation and were transported to the hospital. One patient declined medical transport, bringing the total patient count for the incident to eight.

SAN FERNANDO - Over 100 LAFD firefighters responded to a structure fire in a one-story church in the City of San Fernando on July 9, 2024. Ambient temperatures of up to 105°F were recorded outside, as firefighters went to work cutting open the roof from above, and penetrating the ceilings from below, to make access to the stubborn attic fire. The occupants who were inside the building at the time safely evacuated prior to LAFD arrival. Crews continued battling in the hot weather to eliminate all remaining fire in just over two hours. During the incident, four firefighters sought medical help from on-scene paramedics due to heat-related illness. Three of them rested and recovered on scene and then continue working, and one was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and care. The fire appeared to have been caused by rooftop construction, but the official cause is still under investigation.

Alms House Structure Fire at the County Farm

Shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday August 7th, a fire broke out in the 3900 block of Calle Cita. Both Santa Barbara City and County fire responded. The fire was initially reported as a vegetation fire in the back yard of the residence but rapidly spread to the residence. There were also reports of multiple explosions. The fire was centered on a second-story deck off the rear of the three-unit apartment building. There was extensive head and smoke damage to the structure but no injuries.

At 11:37, Friday October 24th, Engines 1, 2, 5 and 307 along with Truck 1 and a Battalion 712, responded to the 1400 block of Lou Dillon Lane for a reported structure fire. Engine 5 was first in and reported a large 3 story residential structure with smoke showing from the first floor.

Upon making entry, it was discovered that a laundry room was completely involved in fire, which caused heavy smoke damage throughout the first floor.

Just after midnight, Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to a report of a fire on the 8th floor of the North Tower of the Santa Catalina Dorms. Initial reports indicated, AND I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP, that there was a toilet on fire. Upon arrival, Engine 11 found that it was in fact a trashcan on fire, which made much more sense. After about an hour, the residents of the north tower were allowed back in the building.
