Mit ihrem wuchtigen Malakowturm erinnert die Zeche Hannover in Bochum an eine Burg aus dem Mittelalter. Erbaut wurde sie Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts. Innovativ war die Fördertechnik, die hier erfunden wurde. Sie ist noch heute weltweit im Einsatz.

With its massive Malakow tower, the Hannover colliery in Bochum is reminiscent of a castle from the Middle Ages. It was built in the middle of the 19th century. The conveyor technology that was invented here was innovative. It is still in use around the world today.

Every 2 years the Grand-Place (central square) in Brussels is covered with a flower carpet of begonias during 3 or 4 days. The carpet of 77 m x 24 m is composed by about 120 volunteers, with nearly one million begonias.

This year, in 2016 the event was from Friday 12 to Monday 15 August 2016 at the Grand-Place (Grote Markt) in Brussels.

(Athough they said it is made of Belgian Begonias, I noticed a lot of Dahlia's !)

The theme this year (2016) was Japan, and you can see the Japanese flag in the design, Koi carps, Bonsai , Bamboo and the crane bird.

The pilot tender of the Belgian Pilotage Service "Pieter de Coninck" has brought the sea pilots aboard the two sea giants sailing in the background and is sailing back to the pilot harbour of the town of Flushing (Vlissingen)

The aluminimum hull is designed in such a way that operations can continue up to a wind force of 8 Beaufort at a wave height of 2,5 to 4 meters.

The ship is propelled by 2 jet foils and has a high course stablity and maneuverability so that the pilot can board the ship to be piloted in complete safety, without the ship having to slow down.

The cruising speed of this pilot tender is 28 knots ( 50 km per hour)
