Taiwan’s No. 1 Battle Array

After several years of promotion and innovation, Kaohsiung Neimen Song Jiang Jhen has become one of the most internationally famous activities in Taiwan and arguably the No. 1 activity in Taiwan’s folk culture and is now listed as one of Taiwan’s Top 5 Festivals.

 

With a history spanning several decades, the Song Jiang Jhen activity is a grand annual event for battle array performances and rewarding the gods in Neimen District, Kaohsiung City. Pilgrims swarm into this small village every spring for Neimen’s most mirthful period when all kinds of literary activities and martial arrays are organized. In recent years, many colleges and universities have organized Song Jiang battle arrays for the annual festival making the event more colorful and diverse. Seniors pass down this valuable cultural activity to the youths, and the youths develop and promote the festival further. These battle arrays are definitely the honor of Kaohsiung and the pride of Taiwan.

 

Home of Battle Arrays & A Cradle of Culture

Visitors will surely appreciate the beauty of battle arrays when visiting Neimen. Almost every Neimen family practices martial arts, which is the most local and also the most precious cultural asset. With its reputation as the home of the highest number of battle arrays, Neimen is also known as the “Home of Song Jiang” in Taiwan. Villagers practice martial arts since childhood, which has turned the small village into a martial arts town.
