A fond and treasured memory

This is such a special memory of my best friend and companion for just over 15 years we were near his birth place in WALES AND HE HAD BEEN RUNNING AROUND THE PARK AREA AT THE BASE OF LAKE VYRNWY. THIS IS MY FAVOURITE IMAGE FROM THAT DAY !

I managed to capture a lightning strike over Stannington, Sheffield during a thunder storm the other night.

F-15E from 494fs part of the 48th Fghter wing,Returns to homebase after a few months on Operations. Welcome Home!!

Gold Strike 1: I felt very fortunate to capture multiple images of this strikingly beautiful and dramatic storm that went through our area on Saturday, with the evening sunlight turning the Granite Dells gold and a faint rainbow appearing alongside the lightning.

After the storm's rain passed, I ventured out in the middle of intense cloud to ground strikes. This strike was about mile away (based on how long it took the thunder to reach me).

Neighbor's tree was lit with multi-colored lights.

I have not done too many outings in the UK this year and when I indeed went out, the outcome was anything but satisfactory. Summer is a difficult month in the sense the weather forecast can say clear skies or sunny day, however the actual dawn or dusk can have their own way of shrouding themselves in clouds. At other times, the sky can be completely devoid of clouds. Either of them do not auger well for anything special.

The Portishead point lighthouse was built in 1931 and has a bit of a history in that the two tonne fog bell was removed and was later acquired by the town council in 2012.

I have been to the Portishead light (which is more commonly known as Battery Point lighthouse) before as well and came back with a less than satisfactory outcome. This time around, I was shooting from the other side of the light with the rocky outcrop in the foreground only for some dark clouds to completely take over the horizon just in time for the sunset :)

Disappointed, I was about to pack up when I saw the clouds were actually beautiful looking South East and the sky had the post dusk hues that is quite beautiful. The air was quite chilly as well. I ended up shooting a different angle albeit the one that is not any less desirable than my original one.

I may have to dash down there once again some day to get the shot that I want :)

"Double Strike:" Double lightning bolts are reflected in the water at Watson Lake in Prescott. This storm ended up producing such strong, gusty winds that I had to bear down on my tripod and loop my foot into the strap of my camera bag that was resting beside me on the ground, as the force of the wind was about to push everything-- including me-- over!

This was the most incredible feeling to watch this huge aircraft literally flip over on its back to enter a pass in LFA7....dropping into the pass and then perform a simulated attack on a target in the valley 3 miles away....!!! They were on a hill?????

- www.kevin-palmer.com - From rain and snow to rainbows and sunbeams, it was a mixed bag of weather in the Bighorn Mountains. There's nowhere better to keep an eye on the weather than from a fire lookout perched at nearly 10,000 feet. Surrounded by mountains on 3 sides, the views are spectacular. But to the east, the view over the plains seems to go on forever. The Black Hills are even visible on a clear morning. By 8PM the clouds had mostly cleared and the wind ceased. Then a flash pierced through the darkness to the east. A small thunderstorm shot out several dozen bolts of lightning. It was 65 miles away but I could see it as clearly as if it were right next to me. The stars appear as lines because this was a long exposure with a telephoto lens. Thunder can't travel this far, but if it did it would take 5 minutes for the sound waves to arrive. The storm didn't last long, but it was more than I could have expected for the time of year. A few days later this location was buried under 2 feet of snow and is inaccessible until June.

This was taken at the Chaffee Zoo in Fresno recently. I wanted to use my big lens to get some close ups of the animals. Our zoo recently made some major changes and they really looked nice for the animals and for the humans. The lighting on this fellow was perfect to highlight him and be able to lose the background. It was a lot of fun shooting them.

You know what I love about these guys? When they find a place they like to settle, not only will they stay there a LONG time (like over an hour), but they'll come back to it over and over again. He had his arms wrapped around that silver leaf plant that blooms with yellow flowers. (I'm no Botanist.) I need one of those fabulous macro lenses! (I do have a close-up setting with the Canon)
