There was a witch who didn't do witchcrafts, a knight who wore no sword and a mill, grinding flour that went into bran: it was the Devil's flour!
C'era una strega che non faceva stregonerie, un cavaliere che non portava spada e un mulino che macinava farina che andava in crusca: era la farina del Diavolo!
Chiamata ironicamente Molly la strega, la Paeonia mlokosewitschii, "Molly the witch", una bellissima e rara peonia da collezione ha un nome botanico piuttosto ingombrante. Originaria dei boschi e montagne del Caucaso, fu scoperta nel 1897 dal botanico polacco Ludwik Mlokosiewicz, da cui prese anche il nome. Questa pianta è talvolta soprannominata scherzosamente “Molly the Witch” (Molly la strega), un buffo nomignolo dato pensando forse, alla maggior parte dei non polacchi che magari avrebbero trovato difficile, pronunciare il nome scientifico di questa meravigliosa peonia chiamata in Italia più simpaticamente: Molly.

It was discovered by the Polish botanist Ludwik Mlokosiewicz in 1897, after whom it was named by Aleksandr Lomakin. The plant is sometimes nicknamed "Molly the Witch,” a humorous mispronunciation of the species name, which most non-Poles find difficult to pronounce.

A lo largo de los senderos y caminos se pueden ver otros espectaculares taffoni que recuerdan a diversas formas estrafalarias: la pinza de un cangrejo, la cola de una sirena, un hipopótamo bostezando, la cara de una bruja, la nariz de un cerdo, una tortuga, etc.
Carpobrotus è un genere di piante appartenente alla famiglia delle Aizoaceae, il cui nome deriva dal greco karpos (frutto) e brotos (edule). Volgarmente indicato come fico degli Ottentotti, è conosciuto in Italia anche con il nome unghia di strega

Toverhazelaars (Hamamelis) zijn een van de eerste struiken die in januari gaan bloeien. Soms verschijnen de bloemen al in december aan de dan nog kale takken. Andere soorten bloeien wat later vanaf februari, maart. De bloemen bestaan uit vier lijnvormige kroonblaadjes, vrij lang en vaak gedraaid. De rassen met gele bloemen komen het meest voor, maar er zijn ook mooie rassen met oranje of rode bloemen. De bloemen verspreiden een heerlijke geur, die vaak op meters afstand al te ruiken is, vooral bij Hamamelis mollis.

Witch hazels (Hamamelis) are one of the first bushes to bloom in January. Sometimes the flowers appear in December at the still bare branches. Other species bloom somewhat later from February, March. The flowers consist of four linear petals, quite long and often turned. The varieties with yellow flowers are the most common, but there are also beautiful varieties with orange or red flowers. The flowers spread a wonderful scent, which is often smelling at a distance, especially with Hamamelis mollis.

Rebeccu è un piccolo agglomerato di case di origine medievale situato vicino a Bonorva. Nel XIV secolo contava circa 400 abitanti e costituiva il centro più importante della zona. In seguito, pare a causa di pestilenze e carestie, iniziò la sua lenta decadenza e negli anni ’50 del secolo scorso restavano solo pochi residenti. Secondo una leggenda il nome deriverebbe da “Re Becciu” (Il Re vecchio). Un’altra leggenda dice che a causa di una maledizione lanciata fu dalla figlia del Re, cacciata dal paese perché considerata una strega, il paese non avrebbe mai superato le 30 case.
Dopo decenni di abbandono si sta cercando il recupero e la valorizzazione di Rebeccu: alcune abitazioni sono state restaurate ed è stato istituito un festival del cinema. Per la maggior parte dell’anno, tuttavia, Rebeccu rimane una città fantasma che conserva intatto il fascino dei vecchi villaggi abbandonati.
A poche centinaia di metri da Rebeccu si trova la fonte sacra prenuragica di Su Lumarzu.
Rebeccu is a small agglomeration of houses of medieval origin located near Bonorva. In the fourteenth century it had about 400 inhabitants and was the most important center in the area. Later, apparently due to pestilence and famine, its slow decline began and in the 1950s there were only a few residents left. According to a legend, the name derives from "Re Becciu" (The old King). Another legend says that due to a curse launched by the King's daughter, expelled from the country because considered a witch, the country would never have exceeded 30 houses.
After decades of neglect the recovery and enhancement of Rebeccu is being sought: some houses have been restored and a film festival has been set up. For most of the year, however, Rebeccu remains a ghost town that preserves the charm of old abandoned villages intact.
A few hundred meters from Rebeccu is the sacred pre-Nuragic spring of Su Lumarzu.

This is my parents garden, I go there most weekends and sometimes annoy my mother by taking a doll with me. This tree flowered so quickly, I wasn’t expecting it at all but was glad I’d brought Stellar with me last weekend. It was raining a little but she didn’t mind 🌸
