Simple shot of a workman having a break at lunchtime. Spotted whilst out for a midday wander.

A grab shot in my home town on Hastings last summer in the underpass by the seafront. Shot on a Fuji X10

A very rainy day in London. Taken from the cover of a subway near the Imax, Waterloo. The heavens absolutely opened with a downpour of almost biblical proportions for a few minutes - well, by British standards anyway. The walkways turned into rivers, water flowing almost an inch deep in places, soaking my feet even though I was undercover. It was worth wet toes for the rest of the day for the drama of being there, and it lent interest and atmosphere to the scene in front of me. Canon EOS 6D & EF 28-80mm f/2.8-4.0L @ 46mm, f/4, 350th sec @ ISO 800.

A shot taken at Trafalgar Square in London walking to the station on my way home. The light was low so tried to go for a slow shutter speed and get some blur to help convey a sense of movement, but trying to keep the driver as stationary in the frame as I could. I was in London near Aldergate for work. I was starting my walk back to the station but it was a lovely day with some great light and shadows. I spotted this triangle of light under a bridge and waited until some unwitting victims were passing to make the scene work. A few people passed by but I particularly liked these four, with just one figure not wearing black and all pulling along their suitcases on wheels, an increasingly popular accessory for the modern commuter it seems. I didn’t have a camera with me so used my iPhone with a camera app that gives manual control.

I'd just arrived at London Bridge station for a day out taking pictures and this is one of the first pictures I took, right outside the station. This guy was having a coffee break and was standing at the end of the row of columns. I liked the contrast of the blue columns and his flouroscent jacket and the shadows on the ground. I was doing my weekly walk to the office from the station when I was taken by the light over London Bridge, highlighting all the hustle and bustle of the other commuters. A rare moment with no traffic except for a lone cyclist seemed to highlight how busy the walkways were. Canon EOS 6D & EF 28-80mm f/2.8-4.0L

This was taken in an alleyway leading from the Thames at Blackfriars in London. I was attracted to the hard directional morning light giving strong angular shadows, and the pools of light reflected from the building were the icing on the cake for me. How could I resist? A quick grab shot taken on the Millennium bridge in London. Canon EOS 6D & EF 80-200mm f/2.8L

This was shot looking in through a shop window. There was a shaft of sunlight streaming into the shop causing the mannequins to cast shadows inside. I liked the shadow with the cap on like someone watching silently whilst people walked past as they entered the store. This was another shot with the Fujifilm X10 - a small compact camera I’ve bought recently as a lightweight pocketable camera for when it might not be ideal to take a DSLR and big standard zoom.

This lady was walking along seemingly with her eyes closed and appeared to be lost in the music in her earbuds. There was a definite bounce in her step! Canon EOS 6D & EF 28-80mm f/2.8-4.0L

This was shot down a quiet road near the seafront in Hastings. I loved the graffiti monster watching from the shadows. Fujifilm x10

This was taken underneath the much-photographed staircase at the north end of London Bridge, looking back south towards the Shard. I just had to sit and wait for someone photogenic to use the stairs. This couple were the perfect subjects with the guys hat adding the finishing touch. Canon EOS 6D & Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 Art

There was a gate open to a small alley that led to some steps that went up, then down to the water of the river Thames near Tower Bridge. I had to investigate, but thought that this view turning around and looking back through the gates down to the cobbled street offered more potential for a good image than the view of the river itself. I just needed to wait for someone to walk past close enough. Canon EOS 6D & EF 28-80mm f/2.8-4.0L

"Ma all'ombra dell'ultimo sole

S'era assopito il pescatore

E aveva un solco lungo il viso

Come una specie di sorriso."

This was taken strolling along London's South Bank. These kids were hugely interested by the small flock of pigeons gathering in hope of some titbits from some people in the seats just out of frame to the right. When suddenly this kid sprang into action - I thought he was going to practice some Karate moves on them! I was hoping they'd all take off together but they didn't seem that flustered. Perhaps they knew Krav Maga... Canon EOS 6D & Canon EF 28-80mm f/2.8-4.0L

I was walking down George Street in Hastings when I passed this traditional tobacconist shop. Suddenly the gathered group all erupted into laughter. A bit different to my usual style of image but it was a moment I couldn’t pass up. Shot on a Fuji X10 compact.

A lone figure captured during a lunchtime stroll around Westminster in London. It was summer and the light was very harsh,so went looking for interesting light/shadow transitions. Canon EOS 6D & EF 28-80mm f/2.8-4.0L

As I turned into this road I was immediately struck by the sunlight reflecting from the windows of the building on the left into the shadows of those on the right. I also liked the way the road curved round to the right so I found a spot where this would help lead the eye through the picture and then waited for someone to come along and walk into frame. It took ages! There weren't many people about in this spot. Luckily patience paid off and the sun stayed out whilst I waited. Canon EOS 6D & Canon EF 28-80mm f/2.8-4.0L

Walking around London I spotted this dog who had clearly decided it was time for a snooze. Canon EOS 6D & Canon EF 28-80mm f/2.8-4.0L

I spotted this couple looking very dapper down on Hastings seafront. I couldn't resist getting a picture of them as they strolled near the fishermans huts. It's only as I was taking the shot I noticed his lapel badge declaring his musical leanings with apparent pride. Taken on a Fujifilm X10 compact.

A picture taken on my way from Charing Cross station to the office, taking the scenic route for a wander to take some pictures. I tried a number of different angles with different light as the sun came and went, but I like this one the most, with the lady in mid-stride and looking purposeful in her almost-flares. Shot on a Canon EOS 6D & old EF 28-80mm f/2.8-4.0L

Been a Saturday Street feature of our market for many years. There is always, seems to be a queue so well done them.

There is a United Reform Church on the corner of Water Lane Bishop's Stortford who are responsible for this advice. The buildings are 19th century that still look wonderful and an important link to enterpise in that era. The cobbled stone road adds is this lovely (if you are mad like me) part of Bishop's Stortford.

The wind was catching this ladies coat as I walked along behind. Tried to wait for the right moment to capture the wind and show some surroundings to give some context. iPhone 11 Pro

A bizarre and fleeting scene which presented itself for a moment as the bus pulled up near to me.

I clocked this street performer on a break at London's South Bank emerging from the shadows under Hungerford Bridge carrying a questionable lunch. Canon EOS 6D & Canon EF 28-80mm f/2.8-4.0L
