Making a pumpkin pie... which pumpkin should I use?

 

OK. So I slightly lied. I am making a pumpkin pie, but these aren't my pumpkins and so won't be used in my pie. The shot was taken at Wisley during the Tastes of Autumn festival but I didn't get round to processing them before Hallowe'en. So they're now being re-purposed to celebrate Thanksgiving in the US. (Really hoping that the association between pumpkin pie and Thanksgiving is real and not some cliche that I've latched on to.)

Anyway: we have an affinity with America for some reason, so this year, I'm preparing a scaled back Thanksgiving dinner, hence making the pumpkin pie. Mine will be made with (slightly out of date) tinned pumpkin puree and ready made pastry. #streamlinedpiemaking

 

Ironically, my christmas cake is currently cooking today, too. All sorts of festive cuisine going on. No idea what's got into me.
