Driving home along a country lane one sunny evening as the sun was setting last week my wife said 'wow look at the sky'. I stopped and looked in amazement as the clouds formed a bowl shaped swirling vignette and inside that the clouds twisted and swirled in the gorgeous light of the setting sun. The upper central cloud to me looked like a figure with hands conducting ths wonderful symphony of moving elements. Luckily I had my camera!

Straight to the stratosphere — I feel the heavens clear. Bombarded by solar flares, but I’m unfazed. I’ve got this eyewear. Sky by Sacredsquare — a step above the rest.
These Beautiful colored Clouds that almost all of us, including me have never seen, are not clouds.
These in fact are not clouds at all. The reason you have never seen them is because they are droplets of super frozen water in the Stratosphere that can only seen for a brief time when the sun is 1-6 degrees below the horizon in the highest latitudes of Canada, Alaska, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Russia. Only at dawn and sunset.
The sun just below the horizon is shining up on these water droplets, lighting them up and we see the reflection. This only happens in the colder months of December, January and February. The scientists refer to them as Polar Stratosphereic Clouds
So if you are planing to visit any of these countries in the winter months be sure to bring your camera. It is a brief 22-24 minute show.

A rare fine display of Nacreous clouds seen from Liverpool, a type of rare Stratospheric clouds over 80,000 feet above the Earth's surface spotted about 30 / 40 minutes after sunset low in the western sky (some also seen in the low southern sky).

Since they are so high up and the sun is at a low angle in winter it can shine at them from below which gives these iridescent colors, like mother of pearl. Their wavy shape, created by strong winds, add to the surreal look.

I originally scouted this location back in November 2020. Although I didn't get the good conditions or the timing wasn't right for Milky Way season. I for sure marked this spot to revisit one day with better conditions.
I'm a sucker for pointy rocks and balanced compositions, I'm pretty sure this is very relevant for those items. And thankfully on my return visit to the Hills we were presented with some decent cloud formations.
I decided to go with a blue hour panorama because the light on the clouds weren't the best and if you're starting to notice I do like the color blue.
