"Temperamental" was code for "homosexual" in the early 1950's, part of a created language of secret words that gay men used to communicate. Winner of a Drama Desk Award in 2012, "The Temperamentals" tells the story of two men - the communist Harry Hay and Viennese refugee and designer Rudi Gernreich - as they fall in love while building The Mattachine Society, the first gay rights organization in pre-Stonewall United States. "With a style and sense of humor, it mixes politics with... comedy and unexpected bursts of emotional candor," wrote David Cote in Time Out New York.

Debora was working in a party shop near where I work. I went in to find some props for a photoshoot .
Once I'd finished paying for the goods I asked if I could take her picture. She agreed and I snapped away. This is the first stranger I'd photographed inside which was a nice, different experience.

I got about 2 cups of snow-white tallow from a batch of free beef fat picked up from the local butcher - not bad for almost zero effort on a lazy Sunday!
The past two years have seen the Russian economy placed under immense strain. The combination of persistently low energy prices and Western sanctions tied to the conflict in Ukraine led to a substantial devaluation of the ruble and significant fiscal problems, heightening already serious concerns about the long-term viability of Russia’s economic model. However, this period also saw official pronouncements of a Russian economic rebalance towards the vibrant, rapidly-developing, and energy-hungry countries of the Asia-Pacific, foremost among them China, with which Russia signed billions of dollars worth of energy supply agreements.
After two years of turmoil, what prospects does the Russian economy and its foundation, the energy sector, face? Are there reasons for optimism despite low energy prices and sanctions? What are the political implications of Russia’s economic downturn? And how does the revival of Russia as a power able – and willing – to project force beyond its borders, first in Ukraine and recently in Syria, affect the country’s economic future?

Straining to reach the ice cave so I could lick it. Don't ask me why. I vaguely remember someone instructing me to do so. I also vaguely remember having a few drinks. And then some!

Spread a mesh cloth (this is cheese cloth, but jelly cloth is good too) over a bowl and pour in the medlar pulp. Gather the corners to make a bag, tie tightly with string, and hang up the bag so that it drains into the bowl. Leave to drain for around 15 minutes. When cool enough to handle, you can squeeze the bag from the top downward to extract the remaining juice. I was told not to do this as it is said to make the juice cloudy, but it looked clear enough to me. You could change the bowl before squeezing the bag; then if the the liquid looks OK add it to the rest.
