Tuner Evolution Chicago

S2000 CR and S2000 with Mugen Aero

This is my 95 Volvo T5R. Its one of the many project cars my shop www.rkautotechnik.com has (and is) building. I decided to build this car as a nice daily driven car that has the performance I wanted. Recently made its first baseline dyno pulls at 400whp @ 18psi.

As quoted from my website:

"We've pretty much wrapped up the drivetrain and suspension portions of our T5R project. We set out from the beginning with a few simple goals: No losses in drivability, smog compliance, exceptional handling with out compromise in ride quality and lastly an emphasis placed on boost response and powerband. We can say with out lying that we met and exceeded every single one our goals. Every decision made involved a matter of compromise. For instance, we chose to use the Garrett GT3071R ball bearing turbo. We chose a 63AR with the hopes it would give is the boost response we desired while still allowing the motor tor breathe through the top of its powerband.

Being that our T5R is a California based car we also had the issues of smog compliance. Using a true manual trans ECU, there is no problems concerning smog and the manual swap. While not smog "legal" the GT3071R is small enough to fit under the heat shield and is not noticably (to the untrained eye) bigger than OEM. Lastly, all other smog equipment was left in place and functioning. The last part of the manual swap involved the use of an 850R clutch. While there was concern over its holding capacity, so far so good.

When we set out to design an 850 suspension that was more adjustable (in terms of alignment), lighter and stronger than OEM (a-arms) and a car that handled well with out extreme compromises in ride quality. The suspension design we came up with allows for total control over alignment (camber/caster), spring rates (both front and rear springs are off the shelf units available in a multitude of sizes and rates also in both fixed rates and progressive) and ride quality vs handling. Right now we are trying 450# front and 375# rear springs with great results.

Whats in the future for our T5R? Right now, we are so pleased with the car it is difficult to decide. The last couple things we'd like to do is a more aggressive pair or sport seats and a better steering wheel. Then just continue to tinker and dial the suspension and drivetrain till we have reached its max potential.

Thanks again for viewing our project car. Please come back to check on it in the future!

Updates:

We recently put our T5R on the dyno to make a street trim (18psi, pump gas, cat still in place). MUCH to our surprize the car made 453whp! Now, we dyno'd a stock 850R at the same time and this dyno we were on reads about 10% high giving a more realistic number about 410whp. This is well above and beyond what we hoped for at this mild boost level (and even more so for pump gas).

There is more to be had too. Right now the car makes its peak numbers quite low, about 6300rpm but this is mostly due to the fact the motor runs extremely lean above 6500rpm. Also, in the mid range (3500-4500rpm) the car runs pretty rich. For no real tuning at this time, we couldn't be happier. There is a slightly new version of Civinco enroute to try out on the car so we should have it tuned completely soon. Torque numbers were also fantastic at 434ft/lbs with usable torque from 3500rpm to still over 300ft/lbs by 7000rpm!"
