St John's Chapel is a small ruin situated on the quiet shores of Loch Caroy. The chapel was built in 1838 by the MacLeod family (a big name in the island's history) as the island's first Episcopal church. It only remained in use untill 1855, however the graveyard has remained in use throughout more recent times.

The history of the chapel site stems farther back, being built on the site of a previous prehistoric burial ground.

The site is very secluded and you feel as though you have stepped out of time. Local legend tells of the site being haunted, and while visiting there is an oppressive silence and a feeling of isolation.

On Thursday we took an intentional drive along the shore road, stopping at all of the scenic overlooks to take pictures and enjoy the views. Round-trip this drive is just under 2 hours from top to bottom and back.

This is one of my favorite shots.
