The St. James Walkway at Lewis Pass is a 66k hike. Weather was too uncertain on the day, to take on much of the track.

St James was built in 1838 and seats 106 people. In 2013 the population of Beauworth, a tiny village in the Hampshire countryside, was given as 97.

 

The church recently had this exterior facelift. Inside, the window over the altar is one of the most beautiful pieces of stained glass I have ever seen.

St James Motoring Spectacle - a display of Veterans & more modern cars

These graves belong to the children of two families between the ages of one and eighteen months. They date from the late 18th century early 19th century.

 

"St James' Church is well known for its association with Charles Dickens, who lived nearby in Higham, and who is thought to have set the opening to Great Expectations in its churchyard, complete with the row of children's tombstones now inevitably referred to as Pip's graves".

In the middle you can see the the botafumeiro, hanging from the ceiling. This larger-than-life silver censer is used to burn incense during Mass—swung at 68 km/h (40 mph) from one end of the transept to the other.

 

Today it fills the cathedral with a heavenly, woody fragrance, but in the Middle Ages it was all the Church could do to cover up the stench of the sweaty, unbathed hordes of pilgrims. It’s most often swung during the noon pilgrim Mass and for special occasions.
