Stinkbug of some sort, do not know ID, all I know is I wish I had some air freshener while I shot this...

Subject was live, this is a 6 shot stack

bug or beetle like creature (I'll have to look it up) - so close you can feel the fear!

edit: I believe it is a stinkbug!

Lovely stinkbug that shows a bright-red abdomen in flight.

This is what the face of a murderer looks like! This appears to be a stink bug or soldier bug nymph, either Perillus bioculatus or Podisus maculiventris. They are voracious predators and eat pretty much anything, including most pest species, so they are sometimes used for biological pest control in agriculture. They're bad news for anything living in a milkweed patch though! This particular bug killed one of my monarch caterpillars, waaah! So I decided to bring them inside again to keep them safe from predators.

This was taken at our company outing at a day camp in central NJ. We discovered this little green stinkbug nymph (it didn't stink, thank goodness!) that had hitched a ride inside on someone's shirt, & so of course I had to get a shot of it. I released it back outside when I was done so it has a chance to grow up to be 2 cm long and look like this.

Charlie had a little sniff of the Stinkbug and quickly moved on...obviously not on his menu today!

Stinkbugs are so named because they secrete a foul-smelling liquid that is repulsive to most predators.

A stinkbug gives off a very bad smell if it is bothered. The smell comes from a stinky liquid that flows from two glands on the bug’s thorax. Once released, the odor remains on whatever the stink bug touches. To most predators, a stinkbug tastes as bad as it smells. Many birds spit out stinkbugs right after biting into them.

The bugs are becoming scarcer, but this time of year the stink bugs are still out in force...

I have to compete with the Stinkbugs to find the slug caterpillars.....

These Native Brown Stinkbugs might be confused with the introduced "marmorated" stinker. These have much more beautiful tummies.....not certain why they are different colors. Didn't bother them so I'm not sure if they produce a smell similar to the other ones?

Stinkbug nymph attacking prey. They thrust their mouth parts into their victims and suck out the juices.

Chlorochroa opuntiae. I think it is also known as a stinkbug.

Found on 9/7/16 in my garden in Baltimore County.

Family: Pentatomidae. Species: Mormidea lugens (Fabricius, 1775). (Gilsum, NH)

20 April 2014, found at Presqu'ile Provincial Park, ON, Canada.

Still not too many arthropods out this time of year, but found this stink bug crawling around on the grass while eating lunch :)

I ID this to species using this fantastic key to the Pentatomids of Souther Ontario

This bug is here! These stinkbugs mass together, invading homes. They also eat fruit and nuts, a terrible thing for our Oregon agriculture. These came down the Columbia River Gorge last year or the year before, likely on a train-car. I dispatched at least 10 from a clematis yesterday, so will be on the look-out for more.

Little green stinkbug in the leaves.

The adult form of this stinkbug will look quite different, it will eventually be uniformly green.
