Dunnock - Prunella Modularis
aka Hedge Sparrow
The dunnock (Prunella modularis) is a small passerine, or perching bird, found throughout temperate Europe and into Asia. Dunnocks have also been successfully introduced into New Zealand. It is by far the most widespread member of the accentor family, which otherwise consists of mountain species. Other common names of the dunnock include the hedge accentor, hedge sparrow, or hedge warbler.
Dunnocks are native to large areas of Eurasia, inhabiting much of Europe including Lebanon, northern Iran, and the Caucasus. They are the only commonly found accentor in lowland areas, all the others inhabit upland areas
Dunnocks were successfully introduced into New Zealand during the 19th century, and are now widely distributed around the country and some offshore islands. Favourite habitats include woodlands, shrubs, gardens, and hedgerows where they typically feed on the ground often seeking out detritivores as food.
The dunnock possesses variable mating systems. Females are often polyandrous, breeding with two or more males at once, which is quite rare among birds. This multiple mating system leads to the development of sperm competition amongst the male suitors. DNA fingerprinting has shown that chicks within a brood often have different fathers, depending on the success of the males at monopolising the female.Males try to ensure their paternity by pecking at the cloaca of the female to stimulate ejection of rival males' sperm. Dunnocks take just one-tenth of a second to copulate and can mate more than 100 times a day. Males provide parental care in proportion to their mating success, so two males and a female can commonly be seen provisioning nestlings at one nest.

Breaking news from Hogwarts: A squadron of a new generation of Ukrainian war swans on training is spotted in stormy waters of river Avon at an undisclosed location next to Victoria Bridge in Bath. These stealth birds are being equipped with a new charm 'Riddikulus lies' developed at Hogwarts using recently discovered spells from the famous Potion book by the late Professor Snape. This powerful self-guided charm can lift dark spells which the warlock “He Who Must Be Named” and his Boggarts are casting on minds of muggles. The charm works on the grey matter of the muggle’s brain affected by dark spells and stimulates independent thinking to reveal how ridiculous warlock’s views and claims are.
For this week's Macro Monday's theme "Blues" I used my favorite and challenging technique of high speed macro of paint stimulated by a subwoofer.
The Stimulator pattern dry flies are typically used for trout fishing. These feature a brilliant orange base thread.
Summer in Brazil, particularly in Rio, is a very difficult for taking photos. The heat is terrible and it rains a lot.
So, I have no other alternative beside upload photos from my archives.
I hope do not bother you, my friends, with some images of flowers you already knew from uploads I did before.

Congeia is a branching, woody vine known the world over for its decorative flowering. Its leaves are elliptic-oval, opposite, tomentose (hairy), evergreen, light green in color and with well-marked veins. At the end of winter and beginning of spring the congea blooms, displaying numerous white flowers, small and inconspicuous, but each surrounded by three bracts in the form of a helix, very showy and durable, which gradually change color, from pink to purple and then to gray over several weeks. Flowering is so dense and abundant that you can barely see the foliage.
Congeia is a very vigorous and lush vine with a delicate texture. It fits into different styles of gardens, and can cover fences, railings, arbors, pergolas and porticoes. It can also be used as a bush and hedge. Pruning, carried out after flowering, helps in the formation and containment of the plant and stimulates its consolidation. The flowering branches of congeia can also be used as cut flowers in bouquets and floral arrangements.
Regno Unito, Londra, Canary Wharf, Estate 2023
Canary Wharf is a major business district located in the West India Docks on the Isle of Dogs in the Borough of Tower Hamlets in East London. It is one of London's two main financial centres, alongside the traditional City of London, and contains many of the UK's tallest buildings. Around 90,000 people work in Canary Wharf and it is home to the world or European headquarters of numerous major banks and professional services firms. The West India Docks once formed part of the busiest port in the world. After the docks were closed in 1980 the British Government adopted various policies to stimulate the redevelopment of the area. In 1987 the Canadian company Olympia and York agreed to construct a major office development on the Isle of Dogs, with construction commencing in 1988.
For some reason I just absolutely love the pictures of my flowerbed this time of year especially after the snow added just a touch of winter to the mix. I don't know if it is the textures or the colors or what, I just really love the way they look together!
Have a great Tuesday everyone!

Stimulate your senses....
Nah but seriously the wedge takes a second shot at clearing the drift at Mossley as it continues it's way West to St. Thomas.
“The monotony and solitude of a quiet life stimulate the creative mind.” – Albert Einstein
“Blessed are those who do not fear solitude, who are not afraid of their own company, who are not always desperately looking for something to do, something to amuse them with, and something to judge.” – Paulo Coelho

Everybody calls me the quiet one
But you just don't understand
You can't listen you won't hear me
With your head stuck in the sand
I ain't never had time for words that don't rhyme
My head is in a cloud
I ain't quiet - everybody else is too loud
Still waters run deep so be careful I don't drown you
You've got nothing to hear I've got nothing to say
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But names can never down you
It only takes two words to blow you away.

BLACK COFFEE – LACY J DALTON
We couldn't get in at the restaurant we wanted
we didn't think to book
so we were re-directed across the road
and found a cosy comfy nook
this poster caught my eye and so
I pointed shot and took
a little boy from olden days
who caught a big fish on a little hook
the carvery was excellent
I met and congratulated the cook
we piled our plates as high as we could
we signed our names in the visitor's book
the place was a little dark but not shabby
it had it's own style; conversation babbled like a brook
we felt relaxed and satiated and happy
as we left for the theatre for which we DID book
an amateur production of Agatha Christie's
play called Black Coffee; well worth a look
the performers were brilliant; very professional
we couldn't second-guess who was the crook
Hercule Poirot arrived looking a bit dishevelled
in a well-worn well-creased linen jacket he forsook
to press it as well as Captain Hasting's trousers
the audience laughed; our shoulders shook
the stage was set; the lights were dimmed
until the interval came and everyone took
a break for an ice-cream, fresh air and ablutions
returned for the final half of this lesser known book
I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner and visit
to the Palace Theatre as we undertook
to applaud the wonderful players of this play
sad to say goodnight as the room fell dark as a rook.

On a beach, taken by a poetic and why not even romantic spell and placing a shell to our ear, it is almost instinctive to perceive the sound of the sea where the murmur of the waves becomes music and then a dance that stimulates our imagination...
Sur une plage, pris d'un charme poétique et pourquoi pas même romantique et en posant un coquillage sur notre oreille, il est presque instinctif de percevoir le son de la mer où le murmure des vagues devient musique puis danse qui stimule notre imagination.

Bart was monitoring the front yard from the upstairs window when I came over with a wand toy. I'm holding it near the lens for this shot.
Quick shot with my phone whilst making coffee during a break from my work desk at home. A rare shaft of sunlight - I couldn’t resist doing something with it.
Everybody needs stimulation, mine just happens to be outdoor photography. Early morning is the best time for light rays to penetrate the forest.

The English Lake District is a self-contained mountainous area in North West England of some 2,292 square kilometres. Its narrow, glaciated valleys radiating from the central massif with their steep hillsides and slender lakes exhibit an extraordinary beauty and harmony. This is the result of the Lake District’s continuing distinctive agro-pastoral traditions based on local breeds of sheep including the Herdwick, on common fell-grazing and relatively independent farmers. These traditions have evolved under the influence of the physical constraints of its mountain setting. The stone-walled fields and rugged farm buildings in their spectacular natural backdrop, form an harmonious beauty that has attracted visitors from the 18th century onwards. Picturesque and Romantic interest stimulated globally-significant social and cultural forces to appreciate and protect scenic landscapes. Distinguished villas, gardens and formal landscapes were added to augment its picturesque beauty. The Romantic engagement with the English Lake District generated new ideas about the relationship between humanity and its environment, including the recognition of harmonious landscape beauty and the validity of emotional response by people to their landscapes. A third key development was the idea that landscape has a value, and that everyone has a right to appreciate and enjoy it. These ideas underpin the global movement of protected areas and the development of recreational experience within them. The development in the English Lake District of the idea of the universal value of scenic landscape, both in itself and in its capacity to nurture and uplift imagination, creativity and spirit, along with threats to the area, led directly to the development of a conservation movement and the establishment of the National Trust movement, which spread to many countries, and contributed to the formation of the modern concept of legally-protected landscapes.
